What are black chrome wheels?

Black Chrome wheels have a finish that are very similar to chrome plating, but is applied using a different process called PVD or Physical Vapor Desposition. The wheel is placed inside of a vacuum chamber where vaporized metals such as nickel are applied over a base finish which in this case is gloss black. We can make other varieties of chrome colors by using a different base color such as silver or even bronze.

Are black chrome wheels as durable as traditional chrome plating?

Both PVD Black Chrome and traditional chrome plating have their pros and cons. In some environments such as areas that have higher levels of salt either in the air from being in a coastal city or on the ground from salt being applied to snow, some can argue that PVD is more durable because it is more resistant to the corrosive affects of salt than traditional chrome plating. However PVD can be a delicate material which may not hold up to high pressure washing as well as traditional chrome plating. 

Whats the difference between gloss black and black chrome?

Gloss black is applied using a standard paint or powdercoating process and you will get a standard glossy black finish similar to what you find on a black car. Black chrome is created by first applying a gloss black base coat, then using a vacuum chamber to adhere vaporized nickel over the gloss black finish creating a mirror like exterior with a dark tint to it.
