Summer Tires
If you are looking for a good performance tire definitely go with a summer tire. These tires are to provide extra grip in warm weather, and they are stiff to provide great traction. Summer tires are to only be used in the summer; if used in the winter the rubber compound will change and they will harden causing the tire to loose traction. This being said a summer tire will not last as long as an all season tire because they feature lower tread wear ratings meaning you will probably end up replacing them sooner. To increase the life span of these tires, they often need to be rotated. Summer performance tires are typically Asymmetrical and can be rotated front to back and across.
Some positive attributes of summer tires are that the grooves are great for preventing hydroplaning, they channel water, and help the tire through wet conditions. The central groove, called the spine, helps to move water and improve vehicle control. Another great quality about asymmetrical tires is they are typically quiet and have less road noise. Another type of summer tire is a Directional tire. These tires have better traction and handling at high speeds. Directional tires have a V pattern so they cannot be cross rotated and they can only be rotated from front to back. These tires have a shorter tread life then normal all season tires as well. Over all summer tires, either Asymmetrical or Directional are great performance tires.
