The modern Volkswagen Beetle came in two distinct platforms. The New Beetle (1998-2010) was built on the A4 Golf chassis and used the smaller 5x100 bolt pattern shared with the Mk4 Golf and Jetta of that era. The Beetle Turbo (1998-2010) used the same hub spec as the standard New Beetle. The A5 Beetle (2012-2019) was a clean-sheet redesign on the larger PQ35 Golf Mk5 and Mk6 platform and moved to the 5x112 bolt pattern shared with the rest of the modern Volkswagen lineup. Both modern generations run the 57.1mm hub bore and M14x1.5 lug bolts. The bolt pattern is the spec that changes between the two generations and is the first thing to confirm before ordering wheels. The Volkswagen Beetle Bolt Pattern Changed Between Generations

The bolt pattern shift is the most important spec to verify on the Beetle. The New Beetle (1998-2010) and Beetle Turbo (1998-2010) ran 5x100 with a 57.1mm hub bore and M14x1.5 lug bolts. The 5x100 pattern is the smaller of the two modern VW passenger-car patterns and was shared with the Mk4 Golf, Mk4 Jetta, and the Audi TT Mk1 of that same era. The A5 Beetle (2012-2019) moved to 5x112 with the same 57.1mm hub bore and the same M14x1.5 lug bolt spec. The 5x112 pattern is the modern VW Group standard, shared with the Mk5 / Mk6 / Mk7 / Mk8 Golf, Jetta, Tiguan, Atlas, Passat, and the smaller Audi cars (A3). The hub bore and lug spec stayed the same across both generations. Only the bolt pattern changed.

VW runs lug bolts on every modern Beetle, not studs and nuts the way most American and Asian sedans do. The lug bolt threads directly into the hub, the wheel sits between the head of the bolt and the hub face, and there is no fixed lug stud to align the wheel before tightening. This makes a hub-centric fit more important on the Beetle than on a stud-and-nut car. A wheel bored to 57.1mm sits hub-centric on every modern Beetle.

The classic air-cooled Beetle (1949-1979 in NA) and the Mexico-produced Classic Beetle (which continued through 2003) are not in scope for this hub. Those cars used a 4x130 or 5x205 bolt pattern depending on era and required completely different wheels. The hub here covers only the modern water-cooled Beetles. Why the New Beetle and A5 Beetle Fit Different Wheels

The New Beetle (1998-2010) was VW's reinterpretation of the Classic Beetle on the A4 Golf chassis. It used the rounded retro body, the smaller 5x100 hub spec, and ran a 16 to 20 inch aftermarket wheel window with widths from 6 to 8 inch. The Beetle Turbo (1998-2010) shared the same chassis, the same 5x100 bolt pattern, the same 57.1mm hub bore, and the same wheel window as the standard New Beetle. The Turbo's larger output did not change the hub spec or the brake clearance enough to warrant a different aftermarket fitment, so we track Turbo and standard as one effective fitment box with the Turbo as its own catalog row for separation.

The A5 Beetle (2012-2019) was a clean-sheet redesign on the larger PQ35 platform shared with the Mk5 and Mk6 Golf. It is a longer, wider, more aggressive car than the New Beetle and moved to the 5x112 bolt pattern when VW standardized the modern lineup. The A5 runs a 17 to 20 inch aftermarket window with widths from 7 to 8.5 inch. The Turbo and R-Line trims of the A5 share the same hub spec as the standard A5. Square (non-staggered) is the factory and recommended configuration on every modern Beetle. The Beetle was discontinued globally after the 2019 model year, so the A5 is the final generation.
