What Do 20 Inch Tires Cost?

Tire price comes down to tire size and supply more than the wheel diameter itself. It surprises people, but many 20 inch tires are actually cheaper than 19 inch tires, simply because manufacturers produce far more of them. The place costs climb fast is premium off-road tires, like 35s, which get expensive as the wheel size goes up.

Can You Put a Smaller Tire on a 20 Inch Rim?

This one confuses a lot of people. A 20 inch wheel needs a 20 inch tire. You cannot mount an 18 inch tire on a 20 inch wheel, the rim diameter has to match. What changes between wheel sizes is the sidewall height, not the tire's rim diameter. Drop to an 18 inch wheel and you run a taller sidewall to keep the overall tire diameter about the same. That is also why a smaller wheel rides softer.

Are 20 Inch Wheels Good for Off-Road?

Yes. A 20 inch wheel with a proper off-road tire is perfectly capable for the look plus trail and overland use, and it is a popular setup on modern trucks. If you are a serious off-roader running technical terrain or rock crawling, you will usually want to drop to a smaller wheel like a 17 or 18, because the taller sidewall lets you air down, absorbs impacts, and better protects the wheel from rocks.
