BMW X1 Aftermarket Wheel Fitment

The BMW X1 is BMW's entry-level luxury SUV and the smallest crossover in the BMW SUV lineup. The most important fact for an X1 wheel buyer is that BMW changed the bolt pattern across generations. The E84 X1 (2013-2014) runs 5x120 with a 72.56mm hub bore on the rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive 1-Series-based chassis. The F48 X1 (2016-2022) and the current U11 X1 (2023 and up) both run 5x112 with a 66.56mm hub bore on the front-drive and all-wheel-drive UKL platform that the X1 shares with the MINI lineup. Wheels do not bolt across that 2015-to-2016 transition. Lug count is the same (five studs on every X1) so the difference is not visible at a glance. Pick your generation below for the fitment specs that apply to your specific X1.

Find Your BMW X1 Generation

Pick your year range to see wheels and rims that fit your specific X1. The bolt pattern transitions at the F48 redesign, from 5x120 on the E84 to 5x112 on the F48 and U11. Each generation has its own measured offset window.

The BMW X1 Bolt Pattern

The E84 X1 (2013-2014) runs 5x120 with a 72.56mm hub bore. BMW redesigned the X1 onto the UKL platform for the F48 (2016-2022) and moved the bolt pattern to 5x112 with a 66.56mm hub bore. The current U11 X1 (2023 and up) stays on 5x112 / 66.56mm. The transition happens at the 2016 model year exclusively.

A 2014 X1 wheel will not bolt onto a 2016 X1, and vice versa. The studs are at different positions on the hub and the hub bore is a different diameter. Lug count is the same on both sides of the transition (five studs), so a visual check doesn't reveal the difference. If you are uncertain which side of the line your X1 sits on, the easiest tell is the model year and the chassis platform. The E84 sits on the rear-drive 1-Series platform with optional all-wheel-drive. The F48 and U11 sit on the UKL platform that the X1 shares with the MINI Cooper Countryman, BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, and other front-drive BMW Group models. The platform change is the reason BMW moved the bolt pattern.

Why the X1 Generation and Trim Matter

On top of the bolt pattern shift, the X1 changes how it puts power to the road across the three chassis. The E84 was rear-drive in base form with optional xDrive all-wheel-drive on the larger sDrive28i and xDrive28i / 35i trims. The F48 moved entirely to a front-drive base with xDrive all-wheel-drive optional. The U11 continues the front-drive base layout with xDrive optional. Drivetrain choice does not change the wheel fitment box on the X1 (bolt pattern, hub bore, diameter, width, and offset windows are the same on rear-drive, front-drive, and AWD variants of a given generation), but it affects how the car feels under power and the wear pattern on tires. The X1 also runs broadly square front and rear in the aftermarket. Staggered builds are uncommon on this platform.

Element Wheels Measured Aftermarket Fitment, BMW X1

Publishable factory and wheel specs across the X1 generations:

  • E84 (2013-2014): 5x120 bolt pattern, 72.56mm hub bore. Element aftermarket diameter range: 18 to 20 inch. Aftermarket width range: 8 to 9 inch.
  • F48 (2016-2022): 5x112 bolt pattern, 66.56mm hub bore. Element aftermarket diameter range: 17 to 20 inch. Aftermarket width range: 8 to 9 inch.
  • U11 (2023 and up): 5x112 bolt pattern, 66.56mm hub bore. Element aftermarket diameter range: 19 to 22 inch. Aftermarket width range: 8 to 9 inch.

Offset windows are tightly controlled per chassis. For your exact aftermarket offset, three options:

  • 1. Use our Year/Make/Model search to see wheels that fit your specific X1 (each listing shows its own offset).
  • 2. Browse the X1 wheel gallery for real-life builds with size, offset, and tire spec captions.
  • 3. Call or chat with our team for a free fitment consultation.

How We Confirm Fitment on BMW X1 Wheels

Element Wheels measures fitment on the X1 directly across every generation we sell wheels for. For the X1 that means clearance from the wheel to the fender, gap between the back of the wheel and the suspension, brake caliper height, hub bore confirmation (72.56mm on the E84, 66.56mm on the F48 and U11), lug stud height, and turning clearance with the wheel and tire installed. At our fitment facility in Chandler, Arizona, the Element Wheels team measures directly on the physical platforms we support. We don't pull specs from manufacturer sheets the way most retailers do.

That measurement work is what produced the chassis-specific fitment windows on this page. It is also why every wheel we recommend is backed by our Fitment Guarantee. If a wheel does not fit, we pick up the wheels and refund 100 percent. No risk to you.

BMW X1 Wheels and Rims FAQ

What is the bolt pattern on a BMW X1?

It depends on the generation. The E84 X1 (2013-2014) ran 5x120 with a 72.56mm hub bore on BMW's 1-Series-based chassis. The F48 X1 (2016-2022) and the current U11 X1 (2023 and up) both run 5x112 with a 66.56mm hub bore on the UKL platform. Confirm by model year and platform: 2014 and earlier E84 is 5x120, 2016 and later F48 / U11 is 5x112.

Will my E84 X1 wheels fit an F48 or U11?

No. The E84 (2013-2014) runs 5x120 / 72.56mm on a 1-Series-derived chassis. The F48 (2016-2022) and U11 (2023 and up) run 5x112 / 66.56mm on the UKL platform. The studs are at different positions on the hub and the hub bore size is different. The wheels do not cross between the two generations.

Does drivetrain (front-drive, rear-drive, AWD) change the wheel I can buy on an X1?

No. Within a given X1 generation, the bolt pattern, hub bore, diameter window, width window, and offset window are the same across rear-drive (sDrive on the E84), front-drive (sDrive on the F48 and U11), and xDrive all-wheel-drive variants. The car under the wheel arch is the same fitment box. Drivetrain affects how the X1 feels and how the tires wear, not which wheel mounts on the hub.

Are BMW X1 wheels staggered?

The X1 ships square from the factory and the dominant aftermarket build is also square. The F48 and U11 are front-drive cars in base form, so a wider rear wheel doesn't add anything functional, and the chassis is not designed around a staggered tire footprint. Most X1 builds we ship are square at 19 to 21 inch with a clean stance.

What is the largest wheel I can fit on a BMW X1?

Our measured aftermarket window tops at 20 inch on the E84 and F48, and 22 inch on the U11. The U11 supports the largest diameter because BMW built the chassis with more wheelhouse clearance for a 22 inch wheel and tire package. Most aftermarket X1 buyers land at 19 or 20 inch. Above 21 inch the tire sidewall thins enough that ride quality drops noticeably on a compact SUV.

Do I need hub centric rings on a BMW X1?

It depends on your generation. On the E84 (5x120), hub centric rings only when the aftermarket wheel has a centerbore larger than 72.56mm. On the F48 and U11 (5x112), hub centric rings only when the aftermarket wheel has a centerbore larger than 66.56mm. If your fitment needs rings, they'll be included with the order.

What is the factory OEM offset and torque spec on a BMW X1?

The factory X1 wheel ships with a positive offset in the high 30s to mid 40s mm range, typical for BMW compact SUVs. BMW lug bolt torque on the X1 is approximately 140 Nm (about 103 ft-lbs). Always confirm against your owner manual for your exact year and trim. Re-torque after 50 to 100 miles when installing new wheels. For your specific aftermarket offset, search wheels by your year (each listing publishes its own offset), browse the wheel gallery, or contact our team for a free fitment consultation.

How do I find the right wheels for my specific BMW X1?

Confirm your generation by year (2014 and earlier is the E84 on 5x120, 2016 and later is the F48 or U11 on 5x112). Use our Year/Make/Model search to see wheels that fit your specific X1 (each listing publishes its own offset) and browse the wheel gallery for real-life builds. If you are uncertain which chassis or pattern your X1 sits on, contact our team for a free fitment consultation. Every wheel we recommend is backed by the Fitment Guarantee.
