The Chevrolet K-2500 Bolt Pattern

The K-2500 ran in two different bolt patterns during its 1988-2000 production. The light-duty 3/4-ton K-2500 used 6x139.7 with a 78.1mm hub bore and 6 lugs. The imperial nickname for 6x139.7 is 6x5.5 (139.7mm converts cleanly to 5.5 inches). The heavy-duty 3/4-ton K-2500 used 8x165 with a 116.6mm hub bore and 8 lugs. The imperial nickname for 8x165 is 8x6.5 (165mm converts cleanly to 6.5 inches). Same model name, same year, two different axles and two different bolt patterns. The split is GVWR-driven. The light-duty 3/4-ton was rated for lighter loads on the lighter 6-lug axle. The heavy-duty 3/4-ton carried the same axle hardware as the 1-ton K-3500 to handle higher payload and towing capacity.

The two patterns do not cross. A 6-lug 6x139.7 wheel will not bolt onto an 8-lug 8x165 axle, and the reverse is also true. Count the studs on one wheel to confirm which K-2500 you have. 6 studs means the 6-lug light-duty K-2500 and shares fitment math with the K-1500. 8 studs means the 8-lug heavy-duty K-2500 and shares fitment math with the K-3500 and the early Silverado 2500 HD (which carried the same 8x165 pattern through 2010). The GMC Sierra K2500 is the badge-engineered twin and carries the same 6-lug or 8-lug split depending on which variant you have. Why the 6-Lug and 8-Lug K-2500 Need Different Wheels

The two K-2500 variants share the GMT400 cab and body, but the wheel-fitment math is different because the axles are different. The 6-lug 78.1mm hub bore on the light-duty K-2500 lines up with a different aftermarket wheel population than the 8-lug 116.6mm hub bore on the heavy-duty K-2500. Width and offset windows happen to overlap in our measured catalog (both variants run 16 to 22 inch diameter, 7 to 9 inch width, -6mm to +25mm offset), but the bolt circle and the centerbore are not interchangeable. Buying for the wrong variant means the wheel will not bolt on at all.

The other side of the split is what the truck is used for. The 6-lug light-duty K-2500 attracted owners who wanted a 3/4-ton 4WD but did not need the heavy-duty axle, so the wheel choice trends closer to a K-1500 build with daily-driver or moderate off-road use. The 8-lug heavy-duty K-2500 attracted owners running heavier loads, towing, plowing, or work duty, so the wheel choice trends toward 8-lug truck wheels with higher load ratings. The catalog window is the same, but the buying intent is different and the wheel populations available in each bolt pattern reflect that.
