Chevrolet Malibu Aftermarket Wheel Fitment
The Chevrolet Malibu is Chevy's mid-size sedan, sold from 1997 through the final 2025 model year before discontinuation. The Malibu is unusual on the bolt-pattern side: the platform moved across three different patterns over the production run, with each generation also running its own centerbore. The 1997-2003 cars and the final 2016-2025 cars both use 5x115 with a 70.3mm hub bore. In between, the 2004-2012 cars (including the 2006-2007 SS performance variant) ran 5x110 with a 65.1mm hub bore, and the 2013-2016 Malibu Limited ran 5x120 with a 66.9mm hub bore. Wheels do not cross those transitions cleanly. Element Wheels tracks Malibu fitment by generation and the catalog flags the bolt-pattern and centerbore change as the first thing to confirm before shopping. Pick your year range below to see wheels and rims that fit your specific Malibu.
Find Your Chevrolet Malibu Generation
Pick your year range to see wheels and rims that fit your specific Malibu. The Malibu is one of the few platforms in our catalog where the bolt pattern is not stable across the full production run, so confirming year and trim is the first step. The 2006-2007 Malibu SS is the performance variant of that era and gets its own catalog row.
The Chevrolet Malibu Bolt Pattern by Generation
The Malibu uses three different bolt patterns across its production run, and the centerbore changes with each pattern. The 1997-2003 Malibu ran 5x115 with a 70.3mm hub bore. The 2004-2012 cars (including the 2006-2007 SS) moved to 5x110 with a 65.1mm hub bore. The 2013-2016 Malibu Limited used 5x120 with a 66.9mm hub bore. The final generation (2016-2025) returned to 5x115 with a 70.3mm hub bore, the same combination as the oldest cars on this page. Wheels from one bolt pattern do not bolt onto another. The 1997-2003 5x115 wheels and the 2016-2025 5x115 wheels share the bolt circle, but other details (offset windows, brake clearance, fender geometry) still differ enough that we measure each generation as its own fitment row.
Important distinction: 5x115 and 5x114.3 are NOT the same. The 5x114.3 pattern, sometimes nicknamed 5x4.5 from the imperial measurement (114.3mm = 4.5 inch), appears on many Asian and other American platforms. The Malibu uses 5x115 on the 1997-2003 and 2016-2025 cars. The 5x115 pattern is roughly 0.7mm wider than 5x114.3, which is enough to cause uneven stud loading and stress failure if mis-matched. Confirm 5x115 on your Malibu before ordering a wheel that says "5x114.3". The lug thread also shifted across generations: M12x1.5 on the 1997-2012 cars, M14x1.5 on the 2013 and up cars. The Malibu lineup is square-fitment from the factory across every generation. Compare against the rest of the Chevy lineup at our Chevrolet wheels and rims hub.
Why Malibu Fitment Varies by Trim and Year
The 2006-2007 Malibu SS is the performance variant of the 5x110 era and is tracked as its own catalog row alongside the base 2004-2012 Malibu. Outside of the SS row, the Malibu trim lineup is largely homogeneous on wheel fitment within each generation: base, LS, LT, Premier, and RS trims of the same generation share the same bolt pattern, hub bore, and fitment window. What changes between generations is the diameter window the chassis accepts and the lug thread spec. Older cars start at 15 inch diameter and reach 19 or 20 inch on the upper end. The 2016-2025 final generation runs 17 to 20 inch. We measure each generation directly on the car so the catalog reflects what actually fits, not just what the spec sheet implies.

How We Confirm Fitment on Chevrolet Malibu Wheels
Element Wheels measures fitment on the platforms we sell wheels for, including every Malibu generation back to 1997. For the Malibu that means clearance from the wheel to the fender, gap between the back of the wheel and the suspension, brake caliper height, hub bore confirmation across the three different centerbore specs (70.3mm, 65.1mm, 66.9mm), lug seat depth, and lug thread confirmation (M12x1.5 on the older cars, M14x1.5 on the 2013 and newer). At our fitment facility in Chandler, Arizona, the Element Wheels team measures directly on the physical platforms we support. We don't pull specs from manufacturer sheets the way most retailers do.
Chevrolet Malibu Wheels and Rims FAQ
What is the bolt pattern on a Chevrolet Malibu?
It depends on the generation. The 1997-2003 Malibu used 5x115 with a 70.3mm hub bore. The 2004-2012 Malibu (including the 2006-2007 SS) used 5x110 with a 65.1mm hub bore. The 2013-2016 Malibu Limited used 5x120 with a 66.9mm hub bore. The 2016-2025 final generation returned to 5x115 with a 70.3mm hub bore. Wheels do not cross those bolt-pattern transitions.
Will wheels from my 2009 Malibu fit a 2018 Malibu?
No. The 2009 Malibu uses 5x110 with a 65.1mm hub bore and M12x1.5 lugs. The 2018 Malibu uses 5x115 with a 70.3mm hub bore and M14x1.5 lugs. Different bolt circle, different centerbore, different lug thread. The wheels do not interchange. The Malibu changed bolt patterns three times across its production run, so cross-year wheel swaps almost never work outside of a single generation.
Is the Malibu 5x115 the same as 5x114.3?
No. 5x115 and 5x114.3 are different bolt patterns. They look almost identical at a glance but the 0.7mm difference between them is enough to stress the wheel studs and lead to lug failure if you mismatch. The Malibu's 5x115 cars are not compatible with 5x114.3 wheels. The 5x4.5 imperial nickname (114.3mm = 4.5 inch) refers only to 5x114.3, not 5x115. Confirm the wheel's bolt pattern matches 5x115 exactly before ordering for a 1997-2003 or 2016-2025 Malibu.
Does the 2006-2007 Malibu SS take different wheels than a base Malibu of the same year?
Same 5x110 bolt pattern and 65.1mm hub bore as the base Malibu of the same year. The SS is the performance variant and ships with a sportier suspension and a different factory wheel and tire package. Most aftermarket wheels that fit a base 2006-2007 Malibu also fit the SS, but we track the SS as its own catalog row so the offset and width recommendations match the SS factory geometry. Use the SS-specific catalog row if you have an SS.
Is the Malibu discontinued?
Yes. Chevrolet ended Malibu production after the 2025 model year. The 2016-2025 final generation is the last Malibu Chevy will produce. Our catalog continues to support every Malibu generation from 1997 onward, including the discontinued 2025 model year, and we'll keep stocking wheels and rims for the platform indefinitely.
What is the largest wheel I can fit on a Chevrolet Malibu?
20 inch is the top of our measured aftermarket window on every generation except the 2004-2007 cars, which top at 19 inch. 17 to 18 inch is the most common Malibu aftermarket choice for everyday driving. 19 to 20 inch is the show-build choice on the 2008 and newer cars. Above 20 inch, the tire sidewall thins enough that ride quality drops noticeably on the Malibu's relatively soft suspension.
Do I need hub centric rings on a Chevrolet Malibu?
Hub centric rings only when the aftermarket wheel has a centerbore larger than your generation's factory hub bore: 70.3mm on the 1997-2003 and 2016-2025 cars, 65.1mm on the 2004-2012 cars, 66.9mm on the 2013-2016 Limited. If your fitment needs rings, they'll be included with the order.
How do I find the right wheels for my specific Chevrolet Malibu?
Confirm your year range first because the Malibu changed bolt patterns three times across its production run. 1997-2003 is 5x115. 2004-2012 is 5x110 (including the 2006-2007 SS). 2013-2016 Limited is 5x120. 2016-2025 is 5x115. Use our Year/Make/Model search to see wheels that fit your specific Malibu and browse the wheel gallery for real-life builds with size and offset captions. Every wheel we recommend is backed by the Fitment Guarantee.
