Chevrolet Volt Aftermarket Wheel Fitment
The Chevrolet Volt is GM's plug-in hybrid electric compact car, produced from the 2011 model year through 2019. Chevrolet discontinued the Volt after the 2019 model year. The Volt covers two generations on two different platforms with two different bolt patterns. The 1st generation Volt (2011-2015) sat on the GM Delta II PHEV platform and runs 5x115 with a 70.3mm hub bore. The 2nd generation Volt (2016-2019) sat on the GM D2XX small-car platform shared with the same-era Chevrolet Cruze and runs 5x105 with a 56.5mm hub bore. The bolt pattern, the hub bore, and the platform all changed between the two generations. A wheel that fits a 1st gen Volt does not bolt onto a 2nd gen Volt. Element Wheels tracks each generation as its own catalog row. Pick your generation below.
Find Your Chevrolet Volt Generation
Pick your year range to see wheels and rims that fit your specific Volt. The 1st gen and 2nd gen are different platforms with different bolt patterns. Year is the fastest way to identify which Volt you have, since both are 5 lug.
The Chevrolet Volt Bolt Pattern
The 1st generation Volt (2011-2015) runs 5x115 with a 70.3mm hub bore. The lug count is 5, the thread pitch is 12x1.5, and the lug type is a standard tapered nut. 5x115 is the GM compact-car pattern of that era, shared with the same-generation Chevrolet Cruze (2011-2015 first gen) and several other GM small cars. The 70.3mm hub bore is unusual for the 5x115 pattern and is specific to the Delta II PHEV architecture the Volt used.
The 2nd generation Volt (2016-2019) runs 5x105 with a 56.5mm hub bore. The lug count is 5, the thread pitch is 12x1.5. 5x105 is the GM small-car pattern of the post-2015 era, shared with the 2nd generation Chevrolet Cruze (2016-2019), the Chevrolet Sonic, the Chevrolet Bolt, and several European Opel platforms. The bolt pattern, the hub bore, and the platform all changed between the two Volt generations. A wheel that fits a 1st gen Volt will not bolt onto a 2nd gen Volt, and the hub bore difference (70.3mm vs 56.5mm) means even adapter solutions are not straightforward. Year is the fastest way to confirm which Volt you have. Compare across the rest of the Chevrolet lineup at our Chevrolet wheels and rims hub.
Why the Two Volt Generations Are Different Platforms
The 1st gen Volt (2011-2015) launched as a purpose-built PHEV on the GM Delta II PHEV architecture, with the battery pack running down the center tunnel of the chassis. It used a 5x115 bolt pattern and a 70.3mm hub bore. The factory wheel size on the 1st gen was 17 inch, and the design priority was efficiency, which is part of why the factory wheel and tire spec was deliberately narrow.
For the 2016 model year, GM moved the Volt to the D2XX small-car architecture, the same platform underneath the 2nd generation Chevrolet Cruze and several other GM compact cars. The new platform brought a 5x105 bolt pattern, a 56.5mm hub bore, refined suspension, and a longer wheelbase. The 2nd gen kept the 17 inch factory wheel size on most trims with 18 inch as an option on the Premier trim. Chevrolet discontinued the Volt after the 2019 model year as production shifted toward the all-electric Bolt EV. Both Volt generations are tracked in the Element catalog with their own row.
How We Confirm Fitment on Chevrolet Volt Wheels
Element Wheels measures fitment on both Volt generations directly. For the 1st gen Volt that means clearance from the wheel to the fender on the narrower aftermarket sizes, gap between the back of the wheel and the front suspension components on the Delta II PHEV geometry, brake caliper height, hub bore confirmation at 70.3mm, and lug seat depth for the 12x1.5 thread. The 2nd gen Volt gets the same treatment with the 56.5mm hub and the D2XX platform's slightly different brake clearance geometry. At our fitment facility in Chandler, Arizona, the Element Wheels team measures directly on the physical platforms we support. We don't pull specs from manufacturer sheets the way most retailers do.
Element Wheels Measured Aftermarket Fitment, Chevrolet Volt
Publishable factory and wheel specs across the two Volt generations:
- 1st Gen Volt (2011-2015): 5x115 bolt pattern, 70.3mm hub bore, 12x1.5 thread, 5 lug. Element aftermarket diameter range: 17-20 inch. Aftermarket width range: 7.5-8.5 inch. Square fitment. Same brake size front and rear.
- 2nd Gen Volt (2016-2019): 5x105 bolt pattern, 56.5mm hub bore, 12x1.5 thread, 5 lug. Element aftermarket diameter range: 17-20 inch. Aftermarket width range: 7.5-8.5 inch. Square fitment. Same brake size front and rear.
For your exact aftermarket offset, three options:
- 1. Use our Year/Make/Model search to see wheels that fit your specific Volt (each listing shows its own offset).
- 2. Browse the Volt wheel gallery for real-life builds with size, offset, and tire spec captions.
- 3. Call or chat with our team for a free fitment consultation, especially on the 1st gen because 5x115 / 70.3mm CB is an uncommon hub-bore combination.
Every wheel we recommend is backed by our Fitment Guarantee. If a wheel does not fit, we pick up the wheels and refund 100 percent. No risk to you.
Chevrolet Volt Wheels and Rims FAQ
What is the bolt pattern on a Chevrolet Volt?
The pattern depends on your generation. The 1st gen Volt (2011-2015) runs 5x115 with a 70.3mm hub bore. The 2nd gen Volt (2016-2019) runs 5x105 with a 56.5mm hub bore. Both generations run a 12x1.5 thread, and both are 5 lug. The bolt pattern, the hub bore, and the platform all changed between the two generations, so year is the fastest way to identify which Volt you have.
Do 1st gen and 2nd gen Volt wheels interchange?
No. The 1st gen uses 5x115 with a 70.3mm hub bore. The 2nd gen uses 5x105 with a 56.5mm hub bore. The bolt patterns are 10mm apart at the lug spacing measurement, which means the wheel studs do not align. The hub bores are also very different. A 1st gen Volt wheel will not bolt onto a 2nd gen Volt, and vice versa.
Will Cruze, Sonic, or Bolt wheels fit a Volt?
Depends on which Volt and which sibling. The 1st gen Volt (2011-2015) shares the 5x115 bolt pattern with the 1st gen Chevrolet Cruze (2011-2015), but the Volt's 70.3mm hub bore is different than the Cruze's, so a Cruze wheel may need centering rings or may not fit at all depending on the specific wheel. The 2nd gen Volt (2016-2019) shares the 5x105 pattern and a similar 56.5mm hub bore with the 2nd gen Cruze (2016-2019), the Chevrolet Sonic, and the Chevrolet Bolt. Wheels generally cross between those siblings at the bolt-on level. The brake clearance and offset windows are measured per platform, so we verify each separately before publishing fitment.
What is the largest wheel I can fit on a Chevrolet Volt?
Our measured aftermarket window tops at 20 inch diameter on both Volt generations. The factory wheel size was 17 inch on most Volt trims (with 18 inch as an option on the 2nd gen Premier). 18 inch is the most common aftermarket upgrade target in our shop data because the increase from the factory 17 inch is visually meaningful without affecting EV range significantly. Above 19 inch, the Volt's compact wheel well geometry and the tire sidewall reduction can make ride quality noticeably firmer.
Are Chevrolet Volt wheels staggered?
No. Both Volt generations are front wheel drive PHEV compact cars that run square from the factory and stay square in the aftermarket. Same wheel and tire size at every corner. Brake size is the same front and rear because the Volt's regenerative braking system handles most of the deceleration and the friction brakes are sized for occasional stopping rather than continuous performance work.
Will heavier aftermarket wheels reduce electric range on a Volt?
Wheel weight is unsprung rotational mass, and on a PHEV like the Volt the unsprung weight does affect EV range, though the effect on a quality cast aluminum or flow-formed wheel one or two inches over factory is typically small. Going from a factory 17 inch wheel to an 18 or 19 inch aftermarket wheel of similar construction adds modest weight per corner. The bigger driver of range loss when upsizing is usually the wider tire, which has more rolling resistance. If preserving EV range matters to you, prioritize lighter wheel construction (flow-formed over cast, forged over flow-formed) and avoid going wider than necessary on the tire spec.
Do I need hub centric rings on a Chevrolet Volt?
Hub centric rings only when the aftermarket wheel has a centerbore larger than your factory hub: 70.3mm on the 1st gen Volt, 56.5mm on the 2nd gen Volt. The 1st gen 70.3mm bore is uncommon for the 5x115 pattern, so most 5x115 aftermarket wheels will need rings. If your fitment needs rings, they'll be included with the order.
How do I find the right wheels for my specific Chevrolet Volt build?
Confirm your generation by year first. 2011-2015 is the 1st gen (Delta II PHEV, 5x115 / 70.3mm). 2016-2019 is the 2nd gen (D2XX, 5x105 / 56.5mm). The Volt was discontinued after 2019. Use our Year/Make/Model search to see wheels that fit your specific Volt (each listing shows its own offset) and browse the wheel gallery for real-life builds. The 1st gen's 70.3mm hub bore is uncommon enough that rings are often needed, so a free fitment consultation is worthwhile if you are on a 2011-2015 Volt. Every wheel we recommend is backed by the Fitment Guarantee.
Get Chevrolet Volt Wheels Right the First Time
