Same chassis, same running gear, GMC badge and trim. The Sierra HD has carried two bolt patterns in its modern era: 8x165.1 on 1999-2010 trucks and 8x180 on 2011 and newer trucks. The 3500 Dually splits to a separate rear-axle pattern (8x210 from 2011 onward) and runs different rear-wheel geometry to accommodate dual rear tires. The 3500 Dually transitions at the same year from 8x165.1 to 8x210 on the rear axle. Every generation has stock-height, leveled, and multiple lifted fitments in our catalog.

The GMC Sierra HD Bolt Pattern

The 1999-2010 Sierra 2500 and Sierra 3500 single-rear-wheel (GMT800 and GMT900 platforms) ran 8x165.1 with a 116.7mm hub bore. The imperial nickname for that pattern is 8x6.5 (165.1mm = 6.5 inches). In 2011, GM moved the Sierra HD lineup to a new chassis (the GMT K2HD) with a wider 8x180 pattern and a 124.1mm hub bore. The 8x180 pattern has stayed on the Sierra 2500 and Sierra 3500 single-rear-wheel through the 2015-2019 refresh and the 2020-and-up current generation. Both eras carry 8 studs, so lug count alone will not distinguish the two; the year is the deciding factor. Pre-2011 = 8x165.1. 2011 and newer = 8x180. The wheels do not bolt across that transition.

The 3500 Dually has its own rear-axle geometry to accommodate dual rear tires. On 1999-2010 duallys, the rear axle stayed on 8x165.1 / 116.7mm CB (same as the single-rear-wheel trucks of that era). From 2011 onward, the Dually rear axle moved to 8x210 / 154.2mm CB, a wider 8-lug pattern designed specifically for dual-tire geometry. The front axle on the 3500 Dually shares the 8x180 / 124.1mm pattern with the SRW trucks of the same era, but the rear is the separate spec. Rear-wheel widths on the 3500 Dually are narrower (6-9 inch range) because the dual-tire setup carries the load on two tires per side rather than one.

The GMC Sierra 2500/3500 and the Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500 are the same chassis, same running gear, same bolt pattern, same Element fitments. The GMC badge and the slightly different trim packages are the differentiators on the dealer lot, but at the wheel-hub level they are interchangeable trucks. Why Stock vs Leveled vs Lifted vs Dually Fitment Matters

The Sierra HD has an aftermarket buyer base that splits into roughly five groups. Stock-height owners running 20 to 26 inch wheels on factory tire sizing for work or street use. Leveled owners running a 2 to 3 inch front lift with 33-inch tires to even out the factory rake. Moderately lifted owners running 4 to 5 inch lifts with 35-inch tires. Heavily lifted owners running 6 to 8 inch lifts with 35 or 37 inch tires. And 3500 Dually owners, who run a separate rear-wheel geometry on every fitment because the dual-tire setup is its own specification.
