The Honda Civic is one of the highest volume aftermarket wheel platforms in our catalog. The Civic has carried three different bolt patterns over its modern history. From 1980 through 2003, the base Civic (including the 2002-2003 Civic Si) ran 4x100 with a 56.1mm hub bore. Starting in 2004, Honda moved the Civic and the Civic Si to 5x114.3 (also called 5x4.5) with a 64.1mm hub bore, and the Civic has stayed on that pattern through the current generation. The Civic Type R is the exception within the modern lineup: every FK8 (2017-2021) and FL5 (2023 and up) Type R uses 5x120, not 5x114.3. The Type R wheels do not bolt onto a base Civic and vice versa. The bolt pattern transitions are the first thing to confirm. 1980-2003 base Civic and Si: 4x100. 2004 and newer base Civic and Si: 5x114.3. Type R (2017 and up): 5x120. Count the lug studs on one wheel: 4 studs means the 1980-2003 4x100 era. 5 studs means 2004 or newer.

The Honda Civic Bolt Pattern Has Changed Three Times

Three distinct bolt patterns have appeared on the Civic. From 1980 through 2003 the base Civic ran 4x100 with a 56.1mm hub bore; that includes every EF, EG, EK, ES Civic and the 2002-2003 Civic Si. Starting in 2004, Honda moved the entire Civic line to 5x114.3 (5x4.5) with a 64.1mm hub bore; the 2004-2005 Civic Si (EP3) was the first 5-lug Civic and the rest of the lineup followed for 2006. The Civic has stayed on 5x114.3 through the 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th generations.

The Civic Type R is the carve-out. The FK8 Type R (2017-2021) and FL5 Type R (2023 and up) both use 5x120 with a 64.1mm hub bore. The hub bore matches the rest of the Civic line; the bolt pattern does not. A 5x114.3 wheel built for a Civic Si or a base Civic will not bolt onto a Type R. The Type R uses the BMW/Honda 5x120 pattern because the Type R brake and hub spec was upsized for performance. Type R wheels also do not bolt onto base Civics.

One detail that catches buyers: 5x114.3 is NOT the same as the 5x115 pattern used on some American sedans. The two patterns sit roughly 0.7mm apart and are not interchangeable. The imperial nickname 5x4.5 refers ONLY to 5x114.3 (114.3mm = 4.5 inches). The Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger LX, and similar 5-lug American sedans use the 5x115 pattern and those wheels will not fit your Civic. Stick to 5x114.3 / 5x4.5 specifically. Why the Si and Type R Run Tighter Fitment Than a Base Civic

The Civic Si and Civic Type R carry larger front brake packages than a base Civic of the same generation. On the Si, the bigger front rotor and caliper take more inner clearance behind the wheel face but do not change the bolt pattern (Si and base Civic both share the 5x114.3 pattern from 2004 onward). On the Type R, the upgrade is more aggressive: the wheel spec moves to 5x120 and the brake package is larger again. Both Type R generations are halo Civics in the JDM enthusiast market and run square fitment from the factory, with the FL5 (2023 and up) being a particularly tight aftermarket window.

The Civic is a square (non-staggered) car across every generation. The same wheel spec works front and rear on every trim, including the Type R. The Type R buyers are the most spec-sensitive Civic owners we work with; the FL5 in particular runs a tight fitment window where the published OEM 19x9.5 +60mm offset is close to the edge of what clears the front brake.
