The Land Rover Freelander covered on this hub is the first-generation L314, sold in the US market from 2002 through 2005. The L314 was Land Rover's entry into the compact luxury SUV space, a unibody crossover positioned below the Discovery and Range Rover in the lineup. It used a transverse engine layout and the 2.5L Rover V6 in the US market. The Freelander we have measured runs 5x114.3 (also called 5x4.5) with a 70.5mm hub bore. The factory hardware is M12x1.5 lug nuts. The Freelander is a square fitment, same wheel and tire size on every corner from the factory.

The L314 Freelander is the only Freelander generation sold in the US. The L359 "Freelander 2" launched in 2008 in other markets but was rebadged as the LR2 for the US, so US customers looking for wheels on a 2008-2015 Freelander 2 should head to our LR2 / LR3 / LR4 wheels and rims hub. The L314 and the LR2 are different chassis with different bolt patterns, so the wheels do not interchange even though both wear the Freelander nameplate in some markets.

The Land Rover Freelander Bolt Pattern

Every L314 Freelander uses 5x114.3 (also called 5x4.5, because 114.3mm equals 4.5 inches) with a 70.5mm hub bore and M12x1.5 lug nuts. The pattern and hub bore are consistent across all four model years (2002, 2003, 2004, 2005) and across the SE, SE3, and HSE trims in the US market.

The 5x114.3 pattern is a common bolt circle, but the Freelander hub bore of 70.5mm and the offset window are Land Rover specific. A wheel that fit on another 5x114.3 car will not automatically work on a Freelander because the centerbore is different and the offset window is different. The Freelander does not share a bolt pattern with the rest of the early-2000s Land Rover lineup. The Discovery 2, the Range Rover P38, and the older Discovery and Range Rover Classic all use 5x165.1 on a body on frame chassis, which is a completely different geometry from the unibody Freelander.

Important spec callout: 5x114.3 is NOT the same as 5x115. The two patterns look close on paper (a 0.7mm difference in bolt circle) but they do not interchange. A 5x115 wheel will not safely fit on a 5x114.3 hub even though the math is close. Confirm the wheel you are looking at is specifically rated for 5x114.3 before ordering.

Land Rover Freelander Trims and Wheel Specs

The L314 Freelander was sold in the US in SE, SE3, and HSE trims. The SE3 was the three-door body style with a removable rear roof panel, the SE and HSE were the five-door wagon body. Mechanically all three trims share the same 2.5L V6, the same transverse drivetrain, the same wheel package, and the same brake setup. Wheel fitment is consistent across the lineup. The factory wheel package on the L314 ran 16 and 17 inch alloys depending on trim and option package. The Freelander uses an equal-size front and rear brake package, which is consistent with a compact unibody crossover of this era. Both axles can take the same wheel because the front and rear brake clearance requirements match. The Freelander is a square fitment, same wheel size on every corner, and aftermarket builds typically stay square.
