Mazda CX-9 Aftermarket Wheel Fitment
The Mazda CX-9 is Mazda's three-row crossover SUV, sold from the 2007 model year through the 2023 model year across two generations. Mazda discontinued the CX-9 after 2023 and replaced it with the new CX-90 starting in the 2024 model year, so this hub covers the full CX-9 production run and does not extend to current-generation crossovers. Both CX-9 generations run a 5x114.3 bolt pattern with a 67.1mm hub bore, the same lug count (5), and the same M12x1.5 thread pitch. The two generations are otherwise different cars. The 1st gen (2007-2015) rode on a Ford-derived platform. The 2nd gen (2016-2023) moved to Mazda's own SkyActiv architecture and is the version most aftermarket CX-9 buyers are shopping for today. Find your generation below and the fitment specs follow.
Find Your Mazda CX-9 Generation
Pick your year range to see wheels and rims that fit your specific CX-9. The bolt pattern is the same 5x114.3 / 67.1mm across both generations, so the year split here is about fender clearance, brake spec, and aftermarket width tolerance, not bolt pattern. If you have a 2024 or newer Mazda three-row, you have a CX-90, not a CX-9. The CX-90 is a different platform and lives on its own hub.
The Mazda CX-9 Bolt Pattern
Both Mazda CX-9 generations run a 5x114.3 bolt pattern with a 67.1mm hub bore. The imperial nickname for this pattern is 5x4.5 because 114.3mm equals 4.5 inches exactly. The lug count is 5, the thread pitch is M12x1.5. The bolt pattern did not change between the 2007-2015 1st gen TB and the 2016-2023 2nd gen TC, so wheels cross between the two generations on bolt pattern alone (the differences between the two are about width tolerance and fender clearance, not the hub spec).
One detail to flag because it catches some buyers. 5x114.3 is NOT the same as the 5x115 pattern used on some American sedans. The two sit roughly 0.7mm apart on the hub circle and a wheel built for one will not properly seat on the other. The 5x4.5 imperial nickname refers to 5x114.3 only. The 5x115 pattern lives on cars like the Chrysler 300 and the Dodge Charger and those wheels will not fit your CX-9. When you are shopping, confirm the wheel listing says 5x114.3 specifically. The imperial form of this same pattern is 5x4.5. Compare across the rest of the Mazda lineup at our Mazda wheels and rims hub.
Why the CX-9 Generation Changes the Width Window
The two CX-9 generations share a bolt pattern but ride on different platforms. The 1st gen TB (2007-2015) used a Ford-derived architecture. The 2nd gen TC (2016-2023) was a clean-sheet Mazda design on the SkyActiv platform. The newer car is lighter, has different suspension geometry, and runs a slightly tighter fender opening. Our measured aftermarket width window opens to 9.5 inch on the 1st gen and tightens to 9 inch on the 2nd gen. Both generations top out at 22 inch in diameter and start at 18 inch.
The CX-9 is a square (non-staggered) crossover across both generations. Same wheel spec front and rear on every trim. Most aftermarket CX-9 buyers land at 20 inch on the 2nd gen for the upscale look without losing too much sidewall on what is meant to be a family hauler.

How We Confirm Fitment on Mazda CX-9 Wheels
Element Wheels measures fitment on the CX-9 directly across both generations. For the CX-9 that means clearance from the wheel to the fender, gap between the back of the wheel and the suspension, brake caliper height, hub bore confirmation at 67.1mm, lug stud height, and turning clearance with the wheel and tire installed. At our fitment facility in Chandler, Arizona, the Element Wheels team measures directly on the physical platforms we support. We don't pull specs from manufacturer sheets the way most retailers do.
That measurement work is what produced the generation-specific width windows on this page. It is also why every wheel we recommend is backed by our Fitment Guarantee. If a wheel does not fit, we pick up the wheels and refund 100 percent. No risk to you.
Mazda CX-9 Wheels and Rims FAQ
What is the bolt pattern on a Mazda CX-9?
Both Mazda CX-9 generations run 5x114.3 with a 67.1mm hub bore. The imperial nickname is 5x4.5 because 114.3mm equals 4.5 inches. The lug count is 5 and the thread pitch is M12x1.5. The bolt pattern is the same on the 1st gen TB (2007-2015) and the 2nd gen TC (2016-2023).
Is 5x114.3 the same as 5x115 on a Mazda CX-9?
No. 5x114.3 and 5x115 are different bolt patterns and the wheels do not interchange. They sit about 0.7mm apart on the hub circle, which is enough to stress the lugs and the hub if you force the wrong wheel onto the car. The CX-9 is 5x114.3 only. The imperial nickname 5x4.5 refers to 5x114.3 specifically (114.3mm equals 4.5 inches). The 5x115 pattern lives on some American sedans like the Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger and those wheels will not fit your CX-9.
Will 1st gen CX-9 wheels fit a 2nd gen CX-9?
On bolt pattern, yes. Both generations are 5x114.3 with a 67.1mm hub bore, so the wheel bolts to the hub on either car. On real-world fit, watch the width and offset. The 2nd gen TC (2016-2023) has a slightly tighter fender opening and a narrower aftermarket width window (8 to 9 inch) than the 1st gen TB (7 to 9.5 inch). A wider 1st gen wheel can poke past the fender on a 2nd gen. Confirm the wheel was fit-tested on your specific CX-9 generation.
Was the Mazda CX-9 discontinued?
Yes. Mazda ended CX-9 production after the 2023 model year. The replacement is the Mazda CX-90, which launched as a 2024 model year on a different platform. If your three-row Mazda is a 2024 or newer, it is a CX-90 and lives on its own hub. The CX-9 hub covers the full 2007-2023 production run.
Are Mazda CX-9 wheels staggered?
No. The CX-9 runs a square (non-staggered) fitment from the factory and almost every aftermarket build also runs square. Same wheel spec works front and rear on every CX-9 trim. The all wheel drive system and family-hauler duty cycle both reward square fitment for tire rotation and traction consistency.
What is the largest wheel I can fit on a Mazda CX-9?
Our measured aftermarket window tops at 22 inch on both CX-9 generations. 20 inch is the most common 2nd gen aftermarket choice. 22 inch is the upper limit and requires more attention to tire choice and offset. Above 22 inch the tire sidewall thins enough that ride quality drops noticeably on a family crossover that customers expect to ride smoothly.
Do I need hub centric rings on a Mazda CX-9?
Hub centric rings only when the aftermarket wheel has a centerbore larger than 67.1mm. If your fitment needs rings, they'll be included with the order.
How do I find the right wheels for my specific Mazda CX-9 build?
Two steps. Confirm your generation by model year (2007-2015 is the 1st gen TB, 2016-2023 is the 2nd gen TC). Use our Year/Make/Model search to see wheels that fit your specific CX-9 (each listing shows its own offset) and browse the wheel gallery for real-life builds. If you are on a 2nd gen and want to run the wider 9.5 inch width that fits the 1st gen, contact our team first for a free fitment consultation. Every wheel we recommend is backed by the Fitment Guarantee.
