The Mercury Montego Bolt Pattern

Every Mercury Montego runs a 5x114.3 bolt pattern with a 63.4mm hub bore. The 5x114.3 spec is also called 5x4.5 in imperial form because 114.3mm equals 4.5 inches. Both notations describe the same pattern. The Montego uses M12x1.5 lug studs and accepts a conical seat lug nut. The 63.4mm hub bore is the Ford D3 platform hub size, smaller than the 70.5mm Panther sedan hub and smaller than the 67.1mm CD3 sedan hub. This means hub centric rings are commonly required when stepping into an aftermarket wheel with a larger centerbore.

What Changed Across Mercury Montego Production

Mercury built the Montego across three model years (2005, 2006, and 2007) on the Ford D3 platform. Trim mix expanded over the run, with all wheel drive offered on most trims alongside the front wheel drive base setup. The bolt pattern, hub bore, lug thread, and offset window stayed the same across all three years, which is why our catalog tracks the full 2005 to 2007 Montego run as a single fitment entry. After the 2007 model year, Mercury retired the Montego nameplate and the same D3 sedan was renamed Mercury Sable for the 2008 and 2009 model years, with light cosmetic updates.

The Montego is a unibody full-size sedan with a tall greenhouse and a wagon-like seating position that was unusual for its segment. Front wheel drive and all wheel drive Montegos use the same wheel fitment. The Montego's wheel well has good clearance for diameter upgrades, which is why factory 17 inch wheels on the base trim cleanly step up to 18, 19, and 20 inch aftermarket choices. The limiting factors on Montego fitment are factory tire diameter (the ride and steering effort change once the sidewall is shorter than factory), brake caliper depth, and the D3 platform offset window.
