Mitsubishi Montero Aftermarket Wheel Fitment

The Mitsubishi Montero is the body on frame, four wheel drive SUV that ran in the U.S. through the 2006 model year. Element Wheels measures fitment on the 1992-2006 Montero, which covers the 2nd gen (1992-2000) and the 3rd gen (2001-2006). The Montero runs a 6x139.7 bolt pattern (also written 6x5.5 imperial, because 139.7mm = 5.5 inches exactly), which is the most common 6 lug truck and SUV pattern in North America. Hub bore is 67.1mm, lug thread is M12x1.5, and the Montero takes 6 lug nuts. The offset window is lower than a passenger car because the Montero is a tall body on frame SUV with leaf or independent rear suspension and a high ride height. The Montero is discontinued in the U.S. and the year range on this hub is closed at 1992 through 2006. Important note for cross shoppers: the Montero Sport is a different chassis with a different centerbore and is covered on its own hub.

Find Your Mitsubishi Montero

Our catalog covers the 1992-2006 Montero on a single fitment row because the 2nd gen and 3rd gen Montero share the same 6x139.7 bolt pattern, 67.1mm hub bore, and M12x1.5 thread. The 3rd gen (2001-2006) has a wider chassis and gets a slightly different aftermarket wheel and rim choice profile, but the bolt math is the same.

The Mitsubishi Montero Bolt Pattern

Every 1992-2006 Mitsubishi Montero uses a 6x139.7 bolt pattern with a 67.1mm hub bore and an M12x1.5 lug thread. 6x139.7 is also written as 6x5.5 in imperial (139.7mm = 5.5 inches). Same pattern, two naming conventions. 6x139.7 is the most common 6 lug truck and SUV pattern in North America. The Montero shares the pattern with a long list of trucks and SUVs from other brands (Toyota 4Runner and Tacoma of the same era, Nissan Pathfinder, some Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban model years, and others), so 6x139.7 wheels are widely available. What is specific to the Montero is the 67.1mm centerbore. If your fitment needs rings, they'll be included with the order.

Important distinction: the Mitsubishi Montero Sport runs the same 6x139.7 bolt pattern but a DIFFERENT centerbore (108.1mm instead of 67.1mm). A wheel that fits a Montero will not center correctly on a Montero Sport without different rings, and a wheel that fits a Montero Sport will not seat correctly on a Montero either. The two are not interchangeable. The Montero Sport has its own hub on our site. Compare across the rest of the Mitsubishi lineup at our Mitsubishi wheels and rims hub.

Generation Differences Across the Mitsubishi Montero

The 2nd gen Montero (1992-2000) is the boxier of the two body styles, with a body on frame chassis, a solid rear axle, and coil spring rear suspension. The 3rd gen Montero (2001-2006) moved to a four wheel independent suspension and a unibody style construction (still with a body on frame underneath), which made it the most road oriented Montero generation. The 3rd gen Limited (2003-2006) is the trim with the largest factory wheels, 17 inch from the dealer. Older 2nd gens came on 15 to 16 inch factory wheels.

Montero owners buy custom wheels for two reasons. Looks first, especially on the 3rd gen, where a 20 to 22 inch wheel with the right offset fills the fender and gives the SUV the modern stance the factory wheels miss. Performance second, where the move is usually a 17 inch wheel with a chunky off road tire for trail use. The Montero's aftermarket offset window is much tighter and lower than a passenger car because the wheel sits inside a deep fender well and the upper control arm clearance is the limiting factor at the inside edge of the wheel.

Element Wheels Measured Aftermarket Fitment, Mitsubishi Montero

Publishable factory and wheel specs across the Montero generations we cover:

  • 1992-2006 Montero (2nd gen and 3rd gen): 6x139.7 bolt pattern, 67.1mm hub bore, M12x1.5 lug thread, 6 lug. Element aftermarket diameter range: 15-22 inch. Aftermarket width range: 7-9.5 inch, square fitment. Lower offset window than passenger cars because of the body on frame chassis geometry.

For your exact aftermarket offset, three options:

  • 1. Use our Year/Make/Model search to see wheels that fit your specific Montero (each listing shows its own offset).
  • 2. Browse the Montero wheel gallery for real-life builds with size, offset, and tire spec captions.
  • 3. Call or chat with our team for a free fitment consultation.

Every wheel we recommend is backed by our Fitment Guarantee. If a wheel does not fit, we pick up the wheels and refund 100 percent. No risk to you.

How We Confirm Fitment on Mitsubishi Montero Wheels

Element Wheels measures fitment on the Montero directly across the 2nd and 3rd generations. For the Montero that means hub bore confirmation at 67.1mm (not the 108.1mm of the Montero Sport), clearance from the wheel to the fender on a body on frame SUV, gap between the back of the wheel and the upper control arm, brake caliper height at the standard Mitsubishi truck spec, lug seat depth, and lug thread confirmation at M12x1.5. At our fitment facility in Chandler, Arizona, the Element Wheels team measures directly on the physical platforms we support. We don't pull these from manufacturer spec sheets the way most retailers do. If your fitment needs rings, they'll be included with the order.

Mitsubishi Montero Wheels and Rims FAQ

What is the bolt pattern on a Mitsubishi Montero?

Every 1992-2006 Mitsubishi Montero uses a 6x139.7 bolt pattern with a 67.1mm hub bore and an M12x1.5 lug thread. 6x139.7 is also written as 6x5.5 imperial (139.7mm = 5.5 inches). Same pattern, two names. 6 lug nuts.

Is the Montero the same as the Montero Sport?

No. The Montero and Montero Sport are different vehicles on different chassis. Both run a 6x139.7 bolt pattern, but the hub bore is different: 67.1mm on the Montero and 108.1mm on the Montero Sport. A wheel that fits a Montero will not center correctly on a Montero Sport, and vice versa. The Montero Sport has its own page on our site.

What is the hub bore on a Mitsubishi Montero?

67.1mm on the 1992-2006 Montero. If your fitment needs rings, they'll be included with the order.

Will Toyota 4Runner or Tacoma wheels fit a Montero?

The bolt pattern matches. The Toyota 4Runner and Tacoma of the same era run 6x139.7, the same pattern as the Montero. What does not match is the centerbore. Toyota hubs are 106mm or 78.1mm depending on year, and the Montero is 67.1mm. A 4Runner or Tacoma wheel will bolt to the Montero with the right centric ring, but the offset window on a Toyota truck wheel is often higher than what works on a Montero. We measure both platforms and the Montero specific offset window is what clears the fender and upper control arm correctly. Confirm offset with our team before buying.

What is the largest wheel I can fit on a Mitsubishi Montero?

22 inch is the top of our measured aftermarket window on the Montero. 18 to 20 inch is the most common Montero aftermarket choice on a road oriented build. 17 inch is the most common size for an off road oriented build with chunky all terrain tires. Above 22 inch the tire sidewall thins enough that the body on frame Montero's suspension travel can't absorb road impacts well, and ride quality drops.

What was the factory wheel size on a Mitsubishi Montero?

The 2nd gen Montero (1992-2000) came on 15 to 16 inch factory wheels depending on trim. The 3rd gen Montero (2001-2006) came on 16 to 17 inch factory wheels, with the 3rd gen Limited (2003-2006) running 17 inch from the dealer.

Is the Mitsubishi Montero discontinued?

Yes in the U.S. Mitsubishi ended U.S. Montero sales after the 2006 model year. The Montero continued in some international markets under the Pajero name for several more years. Our catalog continues to support the 1992-2006 U.S. Montero indefinitely.

Do I need hub centric rings on a Mitsubishi Montero?

Only when the aftermarket wheel has a centerbore larger than the Montero's 67.1mm hub. If your fitment needs rings, they'll be included with the order.
