Nissan Frontier Aftermarket Wheel Fitment

The Nissan Frontier is Nissan's mid-size pickup, in continuous production since 1998 and one of the deeper truck fitment platforms in our catalog. Element Wheels measures the Frontier across every generation, from the D22 (1998-2004) through the long-running D40 (2005-2021) and the current D41 (2022 and up). The big confirm on this truck is the bolt pattern, which moved once. The D22 ran 6x139.7 with a 100.3mm hub bore (the older Nissan compact truck spec). The D40 redesign in 2005 moved the Frontier to 6x114.3 with a 66.1mm hub bore, and the current D41 stays on the same 6x114.3 / 66mm pattern. The D40 also carries a measured center cap clearance detail in our catalog. The Frontier needs about 38mm of center cap clearance on the D40 hub, which is something we have measured directly. We also publish three measured fitment windows on the D41: stock, with a 2-3 inch lift, and with a 4 inch lift on 34 inch tires (minor trim required). Pick your generation below for the fitment specs.

Find Your Nissan Frontier Generation

Pick your year range to see wheels and rims that fit your specific Frontier. The D22 (1998-2004) is 6x139.7 with a 100.3mm hub bore. The D40 (2005-2021) and the current D41 (2022 and up) are 6x114.3 with a 66mm hub bore. The bolt pattern transition happened with the D40 redesign in 2005; the wheels do not interchange across that transition. On the D41 we also publish lift-kit fitment windows for buyers running 2-3 inch and 4 inch lifts.

The Nissan Frontier Bolt Pattern Changes With the D40 Redesign

The Frontier has one bolt pattern transition in its history. The D22 Frontier (1998-2004) ran 6x139.7 with a 100.3mm hub bore. (6x139.7 is the full-size truck pattern that also shows up on the older Pathfinder R50 and the Armada / Patrol / Titan family, although those siblings use different hub bores.) The D40 redesign in 2005 moved the Frontier to 6x114.3 with a 66.1mm hub bore. The current D41 (2022 and up) stays on 6x114.3 with a 66.06mm hub bore (functionally the same 66mm class as the D40). The D22 6x139.7 wheels and the D40 / D41 6x114.3 wheels do not interchange. The studs sit at a different distance from the hub center and the bolt circle will not line up. Lug thread is 12x1.25 across every Frontier generation.

6x114.3 (the D40 / D41 pattern) is an uncommon 6-lug truck pattern. It is also used on the Nissan Pathfinder R51 (2005-2012) and the Nissan Xterra N50 (2005-2015) of the same era, but it is not the more familiar 6x139.7 or 6x135 patterns used on most full-size and heavy-duty trucks. The 5x114.3 pattern used on Nissan passenger cars is a different bolt count entirely; do not confuse 6x114.3 with 5x114.3. Compare across the rest of the Nissan lineup at our Nissan wheels and rims hub.

Why the Frontier Generation Determines Wheel Fit

The Frontier is a body-on-frame mid-size pickup across every generation in our catalog, but the chassis itself has changed twice. The D22 (1998-2004) is the original compact Frontier, smaller and lighter than the trucks that followed. The D40 (2005-2021) was a long 17-model-year run on the same chassis, which is the platform where most of the installed-base Frontier wheel measurement work happens. The D41 (2022 and up) is the current redesign, sharing chassis traits with the Titan family of the same era. Each generation has its own measured offset window. The Frontier is square front and rear across every generation. RWD and 4WD Frontiers within the same generation share the same bolt pattern, hub bore, diameter, width, and offset window.

On the D40, our catalog carries one truck-specific detail buyers rarely see published anywhere else. The D40 hub needs about 38mm of center cap clearance to fit cleanly, which we have measured directly. Some aftermarket wheel center caps will sit proud of the hub face and cause clearance issues; we account for that in the wheels we recommend for the D40, but it is worth knowing before buying a wheel from a retailer that has not measured this specifically.

On the D41 (2022 and up), Element Wheels publishes three measured fitment windows: stock, 2-3 inch lift, and 4 inch lift with 34 inch tires (minor trim required). Lifted Frontier builds are a significant share of D41 demand, and the lifted fitment window opens the offset to a lower number (more negative, closer to the brake) and tightens the diameter ceiling to 20 inch. If you are building a lifted D41 or shopping for wheels on a lifted Frontier, search by your specific lift configuration.

Element Wheels Measured Aftermarket Fitment, Nissan Frontier

Publishable factory and wheel specs across the Frontier generations:

  • D22 Frontier (1998-2004): 6x139.7 bolt pattern, 100.3mm hub bore, 6 lug, M12x1.25 thread. Element aftermarket diameter range: 15-22 inch. Aftermarket width range: 7-9 inch square.
  • D40 Frontier (2005-2021): 6x114.3, 66.1mm CB, 6 lug, M12x1.25. Element aftermarket diameter range: 16-22 inch. Aftermarket width range: 7-9.5 inch square. Note: D40 hub needs about 38mm of center cap clearance.
  • D41 Frontier, Stock (2022 and up): 6x114.3, 66.06mm CB, 6 lug, M12x1.25. Element aftermarket diameter range: 16-22 inch. Aftermarket width range: 7-9.5 inch square.
  • D41 Frontier, 2-3 In. Lift (2022 and up): 6x114.3, 66.06mm CB, 6 lug, M12x1.25. Element aftermarket diameter range: 16-20 inch. Aftermarket width range: 7-9 inch square. More negative offset window than stock.
  • D41 Frontier, 4 In. Lift w/ 34 In. Tires (Minor Trim, 2022 and up): 6x114.3, 66.06mm CB, 6 lug, M12x1.25. Element aftermarket diameter range: 16-20 inch. Aftermarket width range: 7-9 inch square. Same offset window as the 2-3 inch lift fitment. Minor fender trim required for 34 inch tires.

Offset windows are tightly controlled for the Frontier truck geometry, brake clearance, and any lift you have installed. For your exact aftermarket offset, three options:

  • 1. Use our Year/Make/Model search to see wheels that fit your specific Frontier (each listing shows its own offset).
  • 2. Browse the Frontier wheel gallery for real-life builds with size, offset, and tire spec captions.
  • 3. Call or chat with our team for a free fitment consultation, especially if your D41 has a lift.

How We Confirm Fitment on Nissan Frontier Wheels

Element Wheels measures fitment on the platforms we sell wheels for, including every Frontier generation from the D22 through the current D41 (stock, 2-3 inch lifted, and 4 inch lifted). For the Frontier that means confirming the bolt pattern by year, clearance from the wheel to the fender at stock ride height and at the lift heights we measure, gap between the back of the wheel and the truck suspension, brake caliper height, hub bore confirmation on the 100.3mm D22 hub or the 66mm D40 / D41 hub, the 38mm center cap clearance on the D40, lug seat depth on the M12x1.25 thread, and turning clearance at full lock. At our fitment facility in Chandler, Arizona, the Element Wheels team measures directly on the physical platforms we support. We don't pull specs from manufacturer sheets the way most retailers do.

That measurement work is what lets us call the D22 vs D40 bolt pattern transition cleanly, what lets us flag the 38mm center cap clearance on the D40 (a detail most retailers don't know to check), and what lets us publish three separate fitment windows on the D41 instead of forcing every lifted-truck buyer into a stock-truck recommendation. Every wheel we recommend is backed by our Fitment Guarantee. If a wheel does not fit, we pick up the wheels and refund 100 percent. No risk to you.

Nissan Frontier Wheels and Rims FAQ

What is the bolt pattern on a Nissan Frontier?

It depends on the year. D22 Frontier (1998-2004): 6x139.7 with a 100.3mm hub bore and 6 lugs. D40 Frontier (2005-2021) and D41 Frontier (2022 and up): 6x114.3 with a 66mm hub bore and 6 lugs. The transition happened with the D40 redesign for the 2005 model year. The two patterns do not interchange. Always confirm by year before ordering.

Is 6x114.3 the same as 5x114.3 on a Frontier?

No. The first number is the lug count. 6x114.3 means six lugs on a 114.3mm bolt circle (the D40 and D41 Frontier). 5x114.3 means five lugs on a 114.3mm bolt circle (Nissan passenger cars like the Maxima, Altima, and Rogue). The bolt circle is the same diameter, but the lug count is different and the wheels do not interchange. Always check both numbers when ordering wheels.

D22 vs D40 vs D41 Frontier: what changes for wheels?

Bolt pattern and hub bore change. D22 (1998-2004) is 6x139.7 with a 100.3mm hub bore, 15 to 22 inch diameter, 7 to 9 inch width. D40 (2005-2021) is 6x114.3 with a 66.1mm hub bore, 16 to 22 inch diameter, 7 to 9.5 inch width (and the D40 hub needs about 38mm of center cap clearance, a measured detail). D41 (2022 and up) stays on 6x114.3 with a 66.06mm hub bore, 16 to 22 inch diameter, 7 to 9.5 inch width on the stock truck. Each generation has its own measured offset range. The Frontier is square front and rear across every generation.

I have a lifted 2022 Frontier. What changes for fitment?

Element Wheels publishes three measured fitment windows on the D41: stock, with a 2-3 inch lift, and with a 4 inch lift on 34 inch tires (minor fender trim required for the 34s). The lifted windows open the offset to a lower (more negative, closer to the brake) range and tighten the diameter ceiling to 20 inch. Lifted Frontiers are common; we measure them directly rather than rolling them into the stock truck fitment. If you have a lift on your D41, search by your lift configuration or contact our team for a free fitment consultation.

Are Nissan Frontier wheels staggered?

No. The Frontier is a body-on-frame mid-size pickup that runs square fitment (same wheel and tire size front and rear) from the factory and across our measured aftermarket window on every generation. There is no rear-staggered window in our Frontier catalog. RWD and 4WD Frontiers within the same generation share the same bolt pattern, hub bore, diameter, width, and offset window.

What is the largest wheel I can fit on a Nissan Frontier?

Our measured aftermarket window tops at 22 inch diameter on the D22, D40, and stock D41. 18 to 20 inch is the most common pick for a truck wheel that balances visual presence with ride quality on a body-on-frame chassis. 22 inch fits with the right offset and a low-profile tire. On lifted D41 builds the diameter ceiling drops to 20 inch because the focus shifts to tire diameter rather than wheel diameter (34 inch tires need a smaller wheel to clear the fender even with the lift). Going above the listed diameter cap on a given generation typically requires fender work and is not a build we measure for.

Do I need hub centric rings on a Nissan Frontier?

Hub centric rings only when the aftermarket wheel has a centerbore larger than 100.3mm on the D22 or larger than 66mm on the D40 and D41. If your fitment needs rings, they'll be included with the order.

How do I find the right wheels for my specific Nissan Frontier?

Confirm your model year and generation first. D22 (1998-2004) is 6x139.7 / 100.3mm CB. D40 (2005-2021) and D41 (2022 and up) are 6x114.3 / 66mm CB. If you have a D41 with a lift, search by your lift configuration (stock, 2-3 inch lift, or 4 inch lift with 34 inch tires). Use our Year/Make/Model search to see wheels that fit your specific Frontier (each listing publishes its own offset) and browse the wheel gallery for real-life builds. If you are running a lifted D41 or you are between two generations, contact our team for a free fitment consultation. Every wheel we recommend is backed by the Fitment Guarantee.
