Saturn Ion Aftermarket Wheel Fitment

The Saturn Ion is Saturn's front wheel drive compact car, built from 2003 through 2007 on GM's Delta platform. Element Wheels measures fitment on the 2003-2007 Ion across two distinct hub configurations. Critical to know before you order: the base Ion (2003-2007 sedan and coupe) uses a 4-lug 4x100 / 57.1mm hub, while the supercharged Ion Red Line (2005-2007) uses a 5-lug 5x110 / 65.1mm hub. The two are not interchangeable. Pick the catalog row that matches your trim below.

Find Your Saturn Ion Generation

The 2003-2007 Ion is the only generation Saturn built. It ran on GM's Delta platform for its full production life. The catalog splits into two rows because the base Ion and the Ion Red Line use different hub configurations. Pick the row that matches your trim.

The Saturn Ion Bolt Pattern

The 2003-2007 base Ion uses a 4x100 bolt pattern with a 57.1mm hub bore and an M12x1.5 lug thread on a 4-lug hub. 4x100 is the small front wheel drive pattern used across a wide range of compact cars from the era including the Chevrolet Cobalt Base (2005-2010), the Pontiac G5 4-Lug (2007-2009), the Honda Civic non-Si (1992-2015), the Mazda3 (2004-2013), and the Volkswagen Golf Mk4. A 4-lug Cobalt wheel is the closest GM-family cross over to a base Ion.

The 2005-2007 Ion Red Line is different. It uses a 5x110 bolt pattern with a 65.1mm hub bore on a 5-lug hub. Same M12x1.5 lug thread as the base car, but a different hub circle and an extra lug. The Red Line's 5x110 / 65.1mm hub matches the Chevrolet Cobalt SS (2005-2010) and Cobalt Sport (2008-2010), the Chevrolet HHR (2006-2011), and the Pontiac G5 5-Lug (2007-2009) inside the Delta family.

Critical warning: a 4-lug base Ion wheel will not fit an Ion Red Line, and a 5-lug Ion Red Line wheel will not fit a base Ion. Confirm your trim and lug count before ordering. The 5x4.5 imperial nickname refers only to 5x114.3 (114.3mm equals 4.5 inch) and does not apply to either Ion configuration. Compare across the rest of the Saturn lineup at our Saturn wheels and rims hub.

Ion Trim Differences and Measured Fitment

The Ion lineup splits cleanly on hub. Base Ion sedan and the Ion Quad Coupe (the rear hinged 4-door coupe body style added for 2003) share the 4x100 4-lug hub from 2003 through 2007. The Ion Red Line, introduced for 2005 as Saturn's supercharged compact, runs the 5x110 5-lug hub for the rest of its 2005-2007 production. Both share the same M12x1.5 lug thread and the same Delta platform underneath, but the brake and hub upgrade on the Red Line is the line in the catalog.

The diameter window we measure runs 15 inch on the low end up to 20 inch on the show-build end for both trim families. 15 to 17 inch is the most common base Ion aftermarket choice for everyday driving (base Ion shipped from the factory on 14 to 16 inch). The Red Line shipped on 17 inch from the factory and 17 to 18 inch is the most common Red Line aftermarket choice. 19 to 20 inch on either trim is a show-build choice and shrinks the tire sidewall enough that ride quality drops on the Delta platform suspension.

Element Wheels Measured Aftermarket Fitment, Saturn Ion

Publishable factory and wheel specs across the Ion lineup we cover:

  • 2003-2007 Ion (base sedan, Quad Coupe): 4x100 bolt pattern, 57.1mm hub bore, M12x1.5 lug thread, 4 lug. Element aftermarket diameter range: 15-20 inch. Aftermarket width range: 6.0-7.5 inch. Same brake size front and rear.
  • 2005-2007 Ion Red Line (supercharged): 5x110 bolt pattern, 65.1mm hub bore, M12x1.5 lug thread, 5 lug. Element aftermarket diameter range: 15-20 inch. Aftermarket width range: 6.0-7.5 inch. Same brake size front and rear. The Red Line hub does not cross-shop with the base Ion.

For your exact aftermarket offset, three options:

  • 1. Use our Year/Make/Model search to see wheels that fit your specific Ion (each listing shows its own offset).
  • 2. Browse the Ion wheel gallery for real-life builds with size, offset, and tire spec captions.
  • 3. Call or chat with our team for a free fitment consultation.

Every wheel we recommend is backed by our Fitment Guarantee. If a wheel does not fit, we pick up the wheels and refund 100 percent. No risk to you.

How We Confirm Fitment on Saturn Ion Wheels

Element Wheels measures fitment on the Ion directly, on both the 4-lug base car and the 5-lug Ion Red Line. For the Ion that means hub bore confirmation (57.1mm on the base car, 65.1mm on the Red Line), clearance from the wheel to the fender on a stock-height car, gap between the back of the wheel and the strut on this Delta front wheel drive layout, brake caliper height at the per-trim spec, lug seat depth, and lug thread confirmation at M12x1.5. At our fitment facility in Chandler, Arizona, the Element Wheels team measures directly on the physical platforms we support. We don't pull specs from manufacturer sheets the way most retailers do. The two-hub split between base Ion and Ion Red Line is the kind of detail that catches buyers off guard because the cars look almost identical from the outside.

Saturn Ion Wheels and Rims FAQ

What is the bolt pattern on a Saturn Ion?

It depends on the trim. The base 2003-2007 Ion sedan and Quad Coupe use a 4x100 bolt pattern with a 57.1mm hub bore and an M12x1.5 lug thread on a 4-lug hub. The 2005-2007 Ion Red Line uses a 5x110 bolt pattern with a 65.1mm hub bore and the same M12x1.5 lug thread, but on a 5-lug hub. The two are not interchangeable. Confirm your trim before ordering.

Does the Ion Red Line take different wheels than a base Ion?

Yes. The Ion Red Line has a different hub from the base Ion. Saturn paired the supercharged 2.0L Ecotec in the Red Line with a 5-lug hub at 5x110 / 65.1mm and a larger brake package. The base Ion stays on a 4-lug 4x100 / 57.1mm hub for its full 2003-2007 run. A base Ion wheel will not fit a Red Line. A Red Line wheel will not fit a base Ion. The Red Line factory wheel was 17 inch. Match the lug count and the bolt pattern before you order.

Will Chevrolet Cobalt wheels fit a Saturn Ion?

Yes, on hub, when the Cobalt trim matches the Ion trim. The Cobalt Base (2005-2010) is the Delta platform sibling of the base Ion and uses the same 4x100 / 57.1mm 4-lug hub. The Cobalt SS (2005-2010) and Cobalt Sport (2008-2010) are the Delta sibling of the Ion Red Line and use the same 5x110 / 65.1mm 5-lug hub. Match base to base and performance trim to performance trim before assuming the wheel crosses over.

Can I convert a base Ion to the Red Line 5-lug hub?

This is a hub-and-brake swap, not a wheel-side change. It requires the Red Line front knuckles, rear drums or discs, brake hardware, and the matching 5-lug hub assemblies. It's a real path some Ion owners have taken, but it is outside the scope of a wheel purchase. If you're considering it, complete the swap first and then order Red Line spec 5x110 / 65.1mm wheels.

Is 5x110 the same as 5x114.3?

No. 5x110 and 5x114.3 are different bolt patterns and sit about 4.3mm apart on the hub circle. A 5x114.3 wheel will not start on a 5x110 hub. The 5x4.5 imperial nickname refers only to 5x114.3 (114.3mm equals 4.5 inch) and does not apply to the Ion Red Line. The Red Line is 5x110.

What is the largest wheel I can fit on a Saturn Ion?

20 inch is the top of our measured aftermarket window on both the base Ion and the Ion Red Line. The base Ion shipped on 14 to 16 inch from the factory. The Red Line shipped on a 17 inch factory wheel. 15 to 17 inch is the most common base Ion aftermarket choice for everyday driving. 17 to 18 inch is the most common Red Line aftermarket choice. 19 to 20 inch is the show-build choice on both. Above 20 inch the tire sidewall thins enough that ride quality drops sharply on the Ion's Delta platform suspension.

Is the Saturn Ion discontinued?

Yes. The Ion was discontinued after the 2007 model year and was replaced in Saturn's lineup by the Astra. The Astra itself ran only through 2009 before GM wound the Saturn brand down. Our catalog continues to support the 2003-2007 Ion and the 2005-2007 Ion Red Line indefinitely.

Do I need hub centric rings on a Saturn Ion?

Hub centric rings only when the aftermarket wheel has a centerbore larger than the Ion's factory hub bore (57.1mm on the base car, 65.1mm on the Red Line). If your fitment needs rings, they'll be included with the order.
