Toyota 4Runner Aftermarket Wheel Fitment
The Toyota 4Runner is the iconic mid-size body-on-frame SUV and one of the most active lift-market platforms in our catalog. Every 4Runner from the 3rd generation (1996-2002) through the current 6th generation (2025 and up) runs 6x139.7 (also called 6x5.5, since 139.7mm equals 5.5 inches). What changes across the generations is the hub bore and thread pitch. The 3rd, 4th, and 5th generations (1996-2024) use a 106mm hub bore with a 12x1.5 lug-stud thread pitch. The 6th generation (2025 and up) shrinks the hub bore to 95.1mm and moves to a 14x1.5 thread pitch. That is the same transition Toyota made on the Tacoma 4th gen and the new Land Cruiser 250-series. Element Wheels measures fitment by generation, breaks stock height out from leveled and lifted, tracks 2-2.5 inch lift and 4 inch lift fitments separately, and flags the 6th gen hub and thread change because it is the most-mistaken 4Runner-to-4Runner fitment question we get. Find your generation below and the wheel and rim recommendations follow.
Find Your Toyota 4Runner Generation
Pick your year range to see wheels and rims that fit your specific 4Runner. Bolt pattern is 6x139.7 on every generation. The 5th gen ran a long 15-year production cycle (2010-2024), which makes it the most common 4Runner on the road. The 6th gen (2025 and up) is brand new and uses a smaller hub bore and a different thread pitch. Match your year carefully.
The Toyota 4Runner Bolt Pattern
Every Toyota 4Runner from the 3rd generation (1996-2002) through the current 6th generation (2025 and up) runs a 6x139.7 bolt pattern. The imperial nickname is 6x5.5 (139.7mm equals 5.5 inches). This is the same 6-lug Toyota truck pattern used on the Tacoma 4WD/PreRunner, the older Land Cruiser 80-series, the new Land Cruiser 250-series, the FJ Cruiser, and the Sequoia 1st gen and 3rd gen. Where the 4Runner differs from generation to generation is hub bore and thread pitch.
The 3rd, 4th, and 5th generation 4Runners (1996-2024) all carry a 106mm hub bore with a 12x1.5 lug-stud thread pitch. The 6th generation (2025 and up) shrinks the hub bore to 95.1mm and moves to a 14x1.5 thread pitch. That is the same hub-and-thread transition Toyota made on the Tacoma 4th gen (2024 and up) and the new Land Cruiser 250-series (2024 and up), since the new 4Runner shares its TNGA-F platform hardware with both. A 5th gen 4Runner wheel will bolt onto a 6th gen 4Runner hub on bolt pattern alone, but the lug nuts do not interchange (different thread pitch) and the wheel will sit lug-centric instead of hub-centric on the smaller 95.1mm hub. Hub-centric rings sized to 95.1mm bring older 6x139.7 wheels back to hub-centric on a 6th gen, but the lug nuts still have to be the correct 14x1.5 thread. Compare across the rest of the Toyota lineup at our Toyota wheels and rims hub.
Stock, Lifted, and TRD Pro Fitments
The 4Runner is one of the most heavily lifted platforms we sell wheels for, so stock and lifted fitments are not interchangeable on this truck. Stock height 5th gen 4Runners (2010-2024) run a positive aftermarket offset window across the 16 to 24 inch diameter range. A 2-3 inch leveled 4Runner running 33 inch tires opens the offset window negative and adds room for a wider 8-10 inch wheel. A 4 inch lifted 4Runner shifts the offset window further negative and accommodates 9-10 inch widths. Going more negative on offset is what gives the lifted 4Runner that planted overland stance, but it also moves the wheel and tire closer to the body, so each step out from stock changes the body and inner-wheelhouse clearance. For your specific aftermarket offset by ride height, use the Year/Make/Model search, browse the 4Runner wheel gallery, or contact us for a free fitment consultation.
Drivetrain is not a fitment-box axis on the 4Runner. The 4WD trims and the 2WD trims (limited availability in some 5th gen years) share the same bolt pattern, hub bore, brake package, and aftermarket wheel diameter window. The 4Runner TRD trims (TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, TRD Off-Road Premium, and the TRD Pro on the 5th gen and 6th gen) use the same fitment math as the base SR5 of the same year. The TRD Pro runs FOX shocks and a more aggressive stance, but bolt pattern, hub bore, and the aftermarket offset window do not change based on TRD-Pro trim. The 6th gen 4Runner introduces a hybrid powertrain (i-Force MAX) in addition to gas; powertrain does not change wheel fitment.

How We Confirm Fitment on Toyota 4Runner Wheels
Element Wheels measures fitment on the 4Runner directly, across every generation back to the 3rd gen and across stock, leveled, and lifted ride heights. For the 4Runner that means clearance from the wheel to the fender at ride height and at full droop, gap between the back of the wheel and the suspension components, brake caliper height, hub bore confirmation (106mm on the older trucks, 95.1mm on the 6th gen), lug seat geometry, lug-stud thread pitch (12x1.5 on older, 14x1.5 on the 6th gen), and turning clearance at full lock with the tire installed. At our fitment facility in Chandler, Arizona, the Element Wheels team measures directly on the physical platforms we support. We don't pull specs from manufacturer sheets the way most retailers do.
Toyota 4Runner Wheels and Rims FAQ
What is the bolt pattern on a Toyota 4Runner?
6x139.7 (also called 6x5.5) on every Toyota 4Runner from the 3rd generation (1996-2002) through the current 6th generation (2025 and up). Hub bore and thread pitch change at the 6th gen: 3rd-5th gen (1996-2024) use a 106mm hub bore with 12x1.5 thread pitch, and the 6th gen (2025 and up) uses a 95.1mm hub bore with 14x1.5 thread pitch.
Will my 5th gen 4Runner wheels fit a 6th gen?
Partially. The 6x139.7 bolt pattern carries over, so a 5th gen 4Runner wheel will physically bolt onto a 6th gen 4Runner hub on bolt pattern alone. Two specs change. The hub bore shrinks from 106mm to 95.1mm, so a 5th gen wheel sits lug-centric on the 6th gen unless you run a hub-centric ring sized to 95.1mm. The lug-stud thread pitch moves from 12x1.5 to 14x1.5, so the lug nuts do not interchange. This is the most-mistaken 4Runner-to-4Runner question we get; confirm both specs before swapping wheels between the two generations.
Do TRD Pro and other TRD trims need different wheels?
The 4Runner TRD trims (TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, TRD Off-Road Premium, and TRD Pro) use the same bolt pattern, hub bore, brake package, and aftermarket fitment window as the base SR5 of the same year. The TRD Pro adds FOX shocks and a more aggressive factory stance, but bolt-on wheel fitment math does not change based on TRD-Pro trim. If you are running a TRD Pro with a lift, match your fitment to the lift height (2-3 inch leveled, 4 inch lift) rather than to the trim.
What size wheel fits a lifted 4Runner with 33 inch tires?
On a 5th gen 4Runner with a 2-3 inch level and 33 inch tires, our measured aftermarket window runs 16-22 inch diameter and 8-10 inch width, with an offset that pulls negative compared to the stock window. Most lifted 4Runner builds with 33s land on a 17 or 18 inch wheel at 8-9 inch width. Going wider gives the truck that planted overland stance, but each step out from stock moves the wheel and tire closer to the body, so confirm the offset against your specific lift kit and ride-height combination.
Will Tacoma wheels fit a 4Runner?
Bolt pattern crosses. Every 4WD Tacoma and every 4Runner from 1996 onward uses 6x139.7, so a 4WD Tacoma wheel will physically thread onto a 4Runner hub. The matching hub bore and thread pitch generation has to line up though: a 3rd gen Tacoma 6-lug wheel (106mm hub, 12x1.5 thread) matches a 5th gen 4Runner, and a 4th gen Tacoma 6-lug wheel (95.2mm hub, 14x1.5 thread) matches the 6th gen 4Runner. Within the matched generation, the offset windows on the Tacoma and the 4Runner are similar but not identical; check the wheel listing for the specific 4Runner year.
Are 4Runner wheels staggered?
No. Every 4Runner generation runs square (same width front and rear) from the factory. The 4Runner is a body-on-frame 4WD SUV with a solid rear axle on most generations; the fitment math is the same on both axles. A square setup also keeps tire rotation simple, which matters on a high-mileage daily driver and off-road platform.
What is the largest wheel I can fit on a 4Runner?
Our measured aftermarket window tops at 24 inch on a stock-height 4Runner across the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th generations. Most aftermarket 4Runner upgrades land at 17, 18, or 20 inch and pick width for the look. Lifted 4Runners tend to go smaller in diameter (16-18 inch) so the tire sidewall has room for an off-road compound. Above 24 inch the tire becomes hard to source for an SUV load rating and the ride-quality drop on a body-on-frame platform is significant.
Do I need hub centric rings on a Toyota 4Runner?
On 3rd, 4th, and 5th gen 4Runners (1996-2024), hub centric rings only when the aftermarket wheel has a centerbore larger than 106mm. On the 6th gen 4Runner (2025 and up), hub centric rings only when the aftermarket wheel has a centerbore larger than 95.1mm. If your fitment needs rings, they'll be included with the order.
