The factory wheel hardware on the FJ Cruiser is lug nuts on permanent wheel studs at M12x1.5 thread pitch. This is the standard American and Japanese truck convention and is different from the European lug-bolt convention. Aftermarket wheels for the FJ accept standard 60-degree-conical-seat or shank-seat lug nuts, depending on the wheel.

Why FJ Cruiser Stock vs Overland Fitment Matters

The FJ Cruiser has two distinct buyer profiles, and the wheel decision splits cleanly between them. Stock-height FJ owners running 17 to 22 inch diameter wheels on a daily driver or light-duty trail rig want a wheel that matches the retro silhouette and clears the factory brakes without rubbing the trim. Overland builders running 33 to 34 inch all-terrain tires with a 2 to 3 inch lift want a smaller diameter (17 or 18 inch) with extra sidewall, plus a more aggressive negative-offset window to push the wheel face outward for the wider tire and the lifted geometry. The two builds ask the wheel to do opposite things, and Element catalogs them as two separate fitment rows.

For the stock-height FJ, our measured aftermarket window covers a 16 to 22 inch diameter with widths from 7 to 9.5 inch. The 16 inch end of the window exists for off-road tire sidewall but most stock-height FJ builds land at 18 or 20 inch. The overland window with a 2 to 3 inch lift and 34 inch tires runs 17 to 18 inch diameter, with widths from 7 to 9.5 inch, and the offset window opens up further on the negative end of the scale to accommodate the lifted geometry. Minor body trimming is sometimes required at the front fender liner on the most aggressive overland builds; we flag that on every applicable wheel listing.
