Toyota Matrix Aftermarket Wheel Fitment
The Toyota Matrix is the compact five door wagon Toyota built from 2003 through 2014, sharing a body and a platform with the Pontiac Vibe out of the NUMMI joint GM-Toyota assembly plant in Fremont, California. Element Wheels measures fitment on the full Matrix production range. The first generation (2003-2008) runs a 5x100 bolt pattern with a 54.1mm hub bore on every trim. The second generation (2009-2014) is split. Base Matrix kept the 5x100 / 54.1mm hub from Gen 1. Matrix S and Matrix XRS moved to the 5x114.3 / 60.1mm Toyota family hub. The bolt pattern fork on Gen 2 is the single most important thing to know before buying wheels for a 2009-and-up Matrix. Pick your year and trim below for the fitment that applies to your specific car.
Find Your Toyota Matrix Generation
Toyota built two generations of the Matrix. The first generation (2003-2008) shares the E120 Corolla platform and runs 5x100 / 54.1mm on every trim. The second generation (2009-2014) shares the E140 Corolla platform but splits its bolt pattern by trim. Base Matrix stays on 5x100 / 54.1mm. Matrix S and XRS move to 5x114.3 / 60.1mm. Confirm your trim before ordering.
The Toyota Matrix Bolt Pattern (Two Patterns, One Nameplate)
The Matrix uses two different bolt patterns across its production run. Every 2003-2008 first generation Matrix runs 5x100 with a 54.1mm hub bore and an M12x1.5 lug thread. That is the Corolla / Matrix small-platform hub spec from the early 2000s. For the second generation (2009-2014), Toyota split the lineup. The base Matrix kept 5x100 / 54.1mm. Matrix S and Matrix XRS moved up to 5x114.3 with a 60.1mm hub bore. Same body, same year, same model name, two different bolt patterns. The split is by trim, not by year. A 2010 base Matrix is 5x100. A 2010 Matrix S is 5x114.3. They are not interchangeable at the wheel.
On the 5x100 side, the bolt circle matches the Toyota Corolla, the Scion FR-S / Toyota 86 / Subaru BRZ, the older Subaru WRX (2002-2014 non-STI), the Volkswagen Golf and Jetta (Mk4 and Mk5), and the Pontiac Fiero. Bolt circle matches across all of those, but hub bore does not. The Matrix hub bore is 54.1mm, the same as the Corolla and the Pontiac Vibe of the same generation. On the 5x114.3 side, the pattern is the Toyota family hub spec shared with the Camry, RAV4, Sienna, Highlander, and Avalon. 5x114.3 is also written as 5x4.5 in imperial because 114.3mm equals 4.5 inches exactly. 5x4.5 refers ONLY to 5x114.3. It does NOT refer to 5x115, which is a different pattern used on Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger LX, and similar American sedans. A 5x115 wheel will not bolt onto any Matrix variant. Compare across the rest of the Toyota lineup at our Toyota wheels and rims hub.
NUMMI Twin of the Pontiac Vibe and Trim Differences That Matter
The Matrix is the Toyota-badged sister of the Pontiac Vibe. Both cars came off the same assembly line at NUMMI in Fremont, California, the joint GM-Toyota plant that operated from 1984 through 2010. Same body, same chassis, same engine options on a trim-for-trim basis. When the Pontiac brand was wound down in 2010, Vibe production ended. Toyota moved Matrix assembly to its Cambridge Ontario plant and kept building the Matrix through 2014. A wheel that fits a 2005 Vibe also fits a 2005 Matrix, and a wheel that fits a 2009 Vibe also fits a 2009 base Matrix at the hub level.
The Matrix XRS (2003-2006) shares its 2ZZ-GE 180hp engine with the Lotus Elise and Exige and with the Pontiac Vibe GT of the same years. The XRS is a performance variant. From a wheel fitment standpoint the 2003-2008 XRS still runs the same 5x100 / 54.1mm hub as the rest of the Gen 1 Matrix lineup, so a wheel that fits a 2005 base Matrix also fits a 2005 XRS. The XRS just rewards lighter wheels at the same bolt math. The Gen 2 split is the one to watch. Going from a 2010 base Matrix to a 2010 Matrix S means moving from 5x100 / 54.1mm to 5x114.3 / 60.1mm. Confirm the trim badge and the factory wheel center bore before ordering, not just the model year.

How We Confirm Fitment on Toyota Matrix Wheels
Element Wheels measures the Matrix across both generations and across the Gen 2 trim split. For the Matrix that means clearance from the wheel to the fender, gap between the back of the wheel and the suspension, brake caliper height, hub bore confirmation, lug seat geometry, and turning clearance at full lock. We measure the 5x100 base trims separately from the 5x114.3 S and XRS trims because the hub geometry and the brake clearance differ between them. At our fitment facility in Chandler, Arizona, the Element Wheels team measures directly on the physical platforms we support. We don't pull specs from manufacturer sheets the way most retailers do.
Toyota Matrix Wheels and Rims FAQ
What is the bolt pattern on a Toyota Matrix?
It depends on the year and the trim. Every 2003-2008 first generation Matrix runs 5x100 with a 54.1mm hub bore. For the 2009-2014 second generation, the base Matrix kept 5x100 / 54.1mm, but the Matrix S and Matrix XRS moved to 5x114.3 with a 60.1mm hub bore. Confirm the trim badge before ordering. M12x1.5 lug thread across every variant, 5 lugs.
Does a 2010 Matrix run the same bolt pattern as a 2010 Matrix S?
No. The 2010 base Matrix runs 5x100 with a 54.1mm hub bore. The 2010 Matrix S runs 5x114.3 with a 60.1mm hub bore. Same body, same year, two different patterns. This applies across the entire 2009-2014 second generation. Base Matrix stays on the Corolla 5x100 hub. Matrix S and XRS use the Toyota family 5x114.3 hub. A 5x100 wheel will not bolt to a Matrix S, and a 5x114.3 wheel will not bolt to a base Matrix.
Will Pontiac Vibe wheels fit my Toyota Matrix?
Yes. The Pontiac Vibe is the Pontiac-badged Toyota Matrix, built on the same NUMMI assembly line in Fremont, California from 2003 through 2010. Same body, same chassis, same hub. Every Vibe runs 5x100 / 54.1mm, which matches Gen 1 Matrix and base Gen 2 Matrix exactly. A wheel that fits a Vibe of the same generation fits the equivalent base Matrix. The Vibe was discontinued in 2010 with the Pontiac brand wind-down. The Matrix continued at Toyota's Cambridge Ontario plant through 2014. Vibe wheels won't match the Matrix S or XRS because those moved to 5x114.3.
Will Toyota Corolla wheels fit my Matrix?
Corolla wheels of the same era match the base Matrix at the hub. The 2003-2013 Corolla also runs 5x100 with a 54.1mm hub bore, so a Corolla wheel will physically bolt to a Gen 1 Matrix or to a base Gen 2 Matrix. What changes between platforms is the offset window, the brake clearance, and the fender room. A Corolla sedan wheel may not clear a Matrix wagon body the same way. We measure each platform separately. Corolla wheels will not fit the Matrix S or XRS because those use 5x114.3.
Are Toyota Matrix wheels staggered?
No. Every Matrix from 2003 through 2014 runs square (same width front and rear). The Matrix is a front-wheel-drive platform with an optional all-wheel-drive variant on some years, and both drivetrain layouts run a matched front and rear wheel. Same wheel spec works on all four corners.
What size wheel can I fit on a Matrix?
Our measured aftermarket window runs 16-20 inch on the first generation Matrix (2003-2008) and 17-20 inch on the second generation (2009-2014, both base and S/XRS trims). Factory Matrix wheels ranged 15-17 inch depending on trim and year. 17-18 inch is the most common Matrix aftermarket size for daily driving. Going to 19-20 inch trades sidewall for a more aggressive visual, which on a compact wagon body works well. Above 20 inch starts to thin the sidewall on a daily-driver platform faster than is comfortable.
Do I need hub centric rings on a Toyota Matrix?
Hub centric rings only when the aftermarket wheel has a centerbore larger than the factory hub bore. The factory hub bore on the 5x100 Matrix trims is 54.1mm, and on the 5x114.3 Matrix S and XRS trims it is 60.1mm. If your fitment needs rings, they'll be included with the order.
How do I find the right wheels for my specific Toyota Matrix?
Two steps. Confirm your generation by year (Gen 1 is 2003-2008, Gen 2 is 2009-2014) and confirm your Gen 2 trim (base, S, or XRS) so you know whether the car runs 5x100 or 5x114.3. Use our Year/Make/Model search to see wheels that fit your specific Matrix (each listing shows its own offset) and browse the wheel gallery for real-life builds. If you're not sure which trim you have or want to confirm the bolt pattern before ordering, contact our team for a free fitment consultation. Every wheel we recommend is backed by the Fitment Guarantee.
