The Toyota Pickup was Toyota's compact truck nameplate in North America from the 1979 model year through 1994, when Toyota replaced the Pickup name with the Tacoma for the 1995 model year. The Pickup is the Tacoma predecessor, with multiple generations of body and chassis updates over its 16 year North American run. The Pickup was offered in both 2WD and 4WD configurations and across regular cab and Xtracab (extended cab) body styles. The bolt pattern and the hub bore differ between drivetrains, so drivetrain selection drives wheel choice on the Pickup more than on most trucks. The 4WD Pickup uses 6x139.7 with a 106.1mm hub bore (the standard 6 lug truck bolt pattern). The 2WD Pickup uses 5x114.3 with a 67.1mm hub bore (an older Toyota 5 lug pattern). The 2WD Pickup runs 5 lug 5x114.3 with a 67.1mm hub bore, an older Toyota 5 lug pattern that does not carry forward to the modern Tacoma. Both run M12x1.5 lug studs.

The Toyota Pickup Bolt Pattern by Drivetrain

On a 4WD Pickup the bolt pattern is 6x139.7 with a 106.1mm hub bore. 6x139.7 (also written 6x5.5 in imperial because 139.7mm equals 5.5 inches exactly) is the standard 6 lug truck bolt pattern that runs across most Toyota mid-size trucks and SUVs including the Tacoma, the 4Runner, the FJ Cruiser, and the older Hilux. Wheels listed for any of those 6x139.7 Toyota trucks will bolt to a 4WD Pickup at the bolt circle. The 4WD Pickup uses a larger 106.1mm hub bore to clear the 4WD front hub assembly, which is bigger than the 2WD hub. Width, offset, and brake caliper clearance still need to be checked against the Pickup specifically.

On a 2WD Pickup the bolt pattern is 5x114.3 with a 67.1mm hub bore. 5x114.3 is also written as 5x4.5 in imperial because 114.3mm equals 4.5 inches exactly. 5x4.5 refers ONLY to 5x114.3. It does NOT refer to 5x115, which is a different bolt pattern used on Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger LX, and similar American sedans. The two patterns sit about 0.7mm apart on the bolt circle and are not interchangeable. The 2WD Pickup's 5x114.3 / 67.1mm spec is an older Toyota 5 lug pattern. It does NOT carry forward to the Tacoma, which switched to the 6 lug 6x139.7 pattern across both drivetrains for 1995 and later.

Wheels for a 4WD Pickup will not fit a 2WD Pickup. Wheels for a 2WD Pickup will not fit a 4WD Pickup. The bolt count, the bolt circle, and the hub bore are all different between the two drivetrains. The Pickup Predates the Tacoma

Toyota's North American compact truck lineage runs Pickup to Tacoma. The Pickup ran from the 1979 model year through 1994 across multiple generations of body and chassis updates. The Tacoma took over for the 1995 model year as the Pickup's direct successor. The Tacoma standardized on the 6 lug 6x139.7 bolt pattern across both 2WD and 4WD configurations, retiring the older 5 lug 5x114.3 pattern that the 2WD Pickup had used through its entire run. So when shopping wheels, the 4WD Pickup shares the same bolt pattern as the modern Tacoma, but the 2WD Pickup does not.

Customers shop wheels for the Pickup for two main reasons. Looks first. The Pickup is a vintage truck with a strong enthusiast following, and the factory steel wheels are often swapped for period correct alloys or modern off road wheels to update the look. Aggressive negative offsets that stick the wheel out past the fender line are common on the 4WD Pickup for the classic 80s and early 90s truck stance. Performance second. On the 4WD, larger diameter wheels (16-18 inch on the aftermarket window) open up more all terrain tire choices for off road use. On the 2WD, lighter wheels make the truck feel more responsive at street speeds.

Multiple generations sat under the Pickup nameplate over its 16 year run. The early Pickup (1979-1983), the mid generation (1984-1988), and the late generation (1989-1994) carry through the same bolt pattern split by drivetrain across all years. The drivetrain (2WD or 4WD) drives the bolt pattern, not the model year.

How We Confirm Fitment on Toyota Pickup Wheels

Element Wheels measures both Pickup drivetrains directly. For the Pickup that means clearance from the wheel to the fender, gap between the back of the wheel and the suspension (different on 2WD vs 4WD because the front axle geometry is different), brake caliper height, hub bore confirmation (106.1mm on 4WD, 67.1mm on 2WD), lug seat geometry, lug thread confirmation (M12x1.5 on both), lug count confirmation (6 on 4WD, 5 on 2WD), and turning clearance at full lock. We treat the 4WD and the 2WD as separate platforms because the bolt pattern, the hub bore, the front axle, and the wheel well geometry all differ.
