Toyota Prius Aftermarket Wheel Fitment

The Toyota Prius is the front-drive hybrid that launched the modern hybrid market and has run continuously since 2001. Element Wheels measures fitment on the XW20 (2004-2009), XW30 (2010-2015), XW50 (2016-2022), and current XW60 (2023 and up), plus the Prius C 4-lug sub-trim. The bolt pattern stayed constant at 5x100 with a 54.1mm hub bore and M12x1.5 thread pitch from the XW20 through the XW50. Starting with the XW60 in 2023, Toyota moved the Prius to 5x114.3 with a 60mm hub bore. That is a meaningful generation transition for anyone cross-shopping wheels. The Prius C (2012-2019) is a separate 4-lug sub-trim using 4x100 / 54.1mm and does not cross with the main 5-lug Prius lineup. Find your generation below and the wheel and rim recommendations follow.

Find Your Toyota Prius Generation

Pick your year range to see wheels and rims that fit. The 5-lug pattern transitioned at 2023: XW20 through XW50 (2004-2022) all run 5x100 / 54.1mm, and the XW60 (2023 and up) moved to 5x114.3 / 60mm. The Prius C (2012-2019) is a separate 4-lug sub-trim.

The Toyota Prius Bolt Pattern

The Prius held a 5x100 bolt pattern with a 54.1mm hub bore from the XW20 (2004) through the XW50 (2022). Lug count is five, thread pitch is M12x1.5 on permanent wheel studs. Important contrast for cross-shopping: mainstream Toyota cars like the Camry, current Corolla, Avalon, RAV4, and Highlander run 5x114.3 / 60.1mm, which is a different bolt pattern AND a different hub bore. The Toyota 86 also runs 5x100 but with a 56.1mm hub bore and M12x1.25 thread pitch (the 86 is Subaru-built and carries Subaru spec), so 86 wheels do not drop into a Prius without re-checking the hub centering and the thread pitch.

Starting with the XW60 in 2023, Toyota moved the Prius to 5x114.3 (also called 5x4.5) with a 60mm hub bore. That brings the Prius onto the same bolt pattern as the rest of the modern Toyota lineup. Important callout for cross-shopping: 5x100 is NOT the same as 5x114.3. A wheel from a 2020 XW50 Prius will not bolt to a 2023 XW60 Prius. Similarly, 5x114.3 is NOT the same as 5x115 used on American sedans like the Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger LX. The imperial nickname 5x4.5 refers ONLY to 5x114.3 (114.3mm = 4.5 inches). The Prius C (2012-2019) sits on a different 4-lug 4x100 pattern and does not cross with either the 5-lug Prius or with the rest of the Toyota lineup. Compare across the rest of the Toyota lineup at our Toyota wheels and rims hub.

Prius Generation Differences That Matter for Wheel Fitment

Three of the four main Prius generations Element catalogs run the same 5x100 / 54.1mm / M12x1.5 hardware. The XW20 (2004-2009), XW30 (2010-2015), and XW50 (2016-2022, 5-lug body) cross on bolt pattern, hub bore, and thread pitch. What changes across those three is the fitment window. The XW20 and XW30 share a 15 to 18 inch diameter range with a 5.5 to 7.5 inch square width window. The XW50 holds the same diameter and width window but shifted the offset band slightly to match the redesigned suspension geometry. AWD-e variants of the XW50 (2019 facelift onward) share the same wheel fitment as the front-drive versions. The rear-axle electric motor is independent of the front wheel hardware.

The XW60 (2023 and up) is the larger fitment jump. Toyota moved the Prius to 5x114.3 / 60mm with M12x1.5 thread, and stepped the factory diameter up to 17 or 19 inch (the XW50 topped at 17 inch from the factory). Our measured aftermarket window on the XW60 currently runs 17 to 20 inch diameter with a 6.5 to 7.5 inch width. Note for the XW60: the chassis is new enough that we are still adding measurement data as cars come through the shop. The published window is conservative and may widen as we capture more fitments.

The Prius C (2012-2019) is a separate subcompact hybrid built on a smaller chassis. It uses a 4-lug 4x100 bolt pattern with a 54.1mm hub bore and M12x1.5 thread pitch. The C does not cross with the main 5-lug Prius lineup. The Prius V (2012-2017) was the wagon version and shares the standard 5-lug XW30 fitment. The Prius Prime (XW50 plug-in hybrid) shares the standard XW50 5-lug fitment.

How We Confirm Fitment on Toyota Prius Wheels

Element Wheels measures fitment on the platforms we sell wheels for, including every Prius generation back to the XW20. For the Prius that means clearance from the wheel to the fender, gap between the back of the wheel and the suspension, brake caliper height, hub bore confirmation (54.1mm on the XW20 through XW50 and on the Prius C, 60mm on the XW60), lug-stud thread pitch confirmation (M12x1.5 across every generation), and turning clearance with the wheel and tire installed. At our fitment facility in Chandler, Arizona, the Element Wheels team measures directly on the physical platforms we support. We don't pull specs from manufacturer sheets the way most retailers do. That measurement work is what produced the 15-18 inch window on the earlier generations and the 17-20 inch window on the XW60.

Toyota Prius Wheels and Rims FAQ

What is the bolt pattern on a Toyota Prius?

It depends on the generation. The XW20 (2004-2009), XW30 (2010-2015), and XW50 (2016-2022) all use 5x100 with a 54.1mm hub bore and M12x1.5 thread pitch. The XW60 (2023 and up) moved to 5x114.3 (also called 5x4.5) with a 60mm hub bore. The Prius C (2012-2019) is a separate 4-lug sub-trim using 4x100 / 54.1mm / M12x1.5.

Will my XW50 Prius wheels fit a new XW60 Prius?

No. The XW50 (2016-2022) uses 5x100 with a 54.1mm hub bore. The XW60 (2023 and up) uses 5x114.3 with a 60mm hub bore. Different bolt circle and different hub centering. Wheels do not cross between an XW50 and an XW60. Within the 5x100 era (XW20 through XW50), wheels cross between generations on bolt pattern, but offset bands and brake clearance change across the generations.

Does the Prius AWD-e use different wheels than the front-drive Prius?

No. The AWD-e variant (offered from the 2019 facelift XW50 forward and continuing on the XW60) shares the same bolt pattern, hub bore, brake package, and fitment window as the front-drive Prius of the same generation. The rear-axle electric motor is independent of the front wheel hardware. A wheel that fits a front-drive XW50 fits an AWD-e XW50.

Is the Prius C the same fitment as the regular Prius?

No. The Prius C (2012-2019) is a subcompact built on a smaller chassis with a 4-lug 4x100 bolt pattern. The regular Prius (XW20, XW30, XW50) is 5-lug 5x100. Different lug count, different bolt pattern. Wheels do not cross between the Prius C and the regular Prius. The Prius V wagon (2012-2017) does cross with the regular Prius lineup on the standard 5-lug XW30 spec.

What about the 1st generation XW10 Prius (2001-2003)?

The 1st generation XW10 Prius (2001-2003) is not in our active measured catalog. Production volume in the aftermarket is low and the cars are now over 20 years old. If you are shopping wheels for an XW10, contact our team for a free fitment consultation.

Are Toyota Prius wheels staggered?

No. Every Prius generation from the XW20 through the current XW60 runs square (same width front and rear) from the factory. The Prius is a front-drive platform across every generation (the AWD-e adds a separate rear-axle electric motor but does not change wheel fitment), so the front axle carries the bulk of the load. Same wheel spec works front and rear. Square setup keeps tire rotation possible across four corners.

What is the largest wheel I can fit on a Toyota Prius?

Our measured aftermarket window tops at 18 inch on the XW20 through XW50 and on the Prius C, and 20 inch on the XW60. Most aftermarket builds on the earlier generations land at 17 inch for the balance of look and ride quality. The XW60 supports 18 and 19 inch as the practical sweet spot. Above the published ceiling, tire sidewall thins enough that ride quality drops sharply on a hybrid daily driver, and the larger diameter starts working against the hybrid system's efficiency tuning.

Do I need hub centric rings on a Toyota Prius?

On the XW20 through XW50 (2004-2022) and on the Prius C (2012-2019), hub centric rings only when the aftermarket wheel has a centerbore larger than 54.1mm. On the XW60 (2023 and up), hub centric rings only when the aftermarket wheel has a centerbore larger than 60mm. If your fitment needs rings, they'll be included with the order.
