Volkswagen Passat Aftermarket Wheel Fitment

The Volkswagen Passat is VW's mid-size sedan, sold in North America from the late 1990s through the 2022 model year before being discontinued in the NA market. Element Wheels measures the modern Passat across four chassis generations: B5 (1998-2005), B6 (2006-2010), B7 NMS (2012-2019), and the final B8 (2020-2022). The B5 also includes the niche W8 variant (2003-2004) with the 4.0L W8 engine, tracked as its own catalog row. The B6 splits into a 2.0T trim, a 3.6L trim, and a Wagon body style. Every modern Passat in the catalog uses 5x112 with a 57.1mm hub bore and M14x1.5 lug bolts. The centerbore stayed 57.1mm across all four generations in our catalog. The bolt pattern is shared with the rest of the modern Volkswagen passenger lineup and the smaller Audi cars. The earlier 1990-1997 Passat ran different bolt patterns (4x100 on the 4-cylinder and 5x100 on the 6-cylinder) and is not in scope for this hub. Pick your generation below for the fitment specs that apply to your specific Passat.

Find Your Volkswagen Passat Generation

Pick your chassis to see wheels and rims that fit your specific Passat. Bolt pattern is 5x112 across every modern Passat with a 57.1mm hub bore and M14x1.5 lug bolts. What changes between the generations is body proportion, the aftermarket diameter window, and the brake package. The Passat was discontinued in North America after the 2022 model year, so the B8 is the final generation we track for the NA market. The R-Line is a styling and appearance package on the same chassis as the matching SE or SEL trim, not a different mechanical setup.

The Volkswagen Passat Bolt Pattern

Every modern Passat (B5 through B8) uses 5x112 with a 57.1mm hub bore and M14x1.5 lug bolts. VW runs lug bolts on the Passat, not studs and nuts the way most American and Asian sedans do. The lug bolt threads directly into the hub, the wheel sits between the head of the bolt and the hub face, and there is no fixed lug stud to align the wheel before tightening. This makes a hub-centric fit more important on the Passat than on a stud-and-nut sedan. The 57.1mm hub bore is the smaller VW Group passenger-car spec and it stayed consistent across every generation in our active catalog.

The 5x112 / 57.1mm spec on the modern Passat matches the rest of the modern Volkswagen passenger lineup (Jetta, Golf, GTI, Tiguan, Atlas on the same hub bore) and the smaller Audi cars (A3). The wheels bolt to the same hub. The 5x112 pattern is shared more broadly with the full-size MLB Evo luxury SUVs (Audi Q7, Q8, Porsche Cayenne, VW Touareg) and the modern C-chassis Audi sedans (A6, A7, A8 from the C7 forward), but those vehicles run a larger 66.56mm hub bore. Bolt pattern means a 5x112 wheel from a Q7 will line up with the Passat lug holes, but the hub bore is too large to sit hub-centric without rings, and the offset is sized for a much larger fender opening. The earlier 1990-1997 Passat ran different bolt patterns entirely (4x100 on the 4-cylinder and 5x100 on the 6-cylinder), so wheels from that older Passat era do NOT bolt to a modern Passat. Compare against the rest of the Volkswagen lineup at our Volkswagen wheels and rims hub.

Why Generation, Engine, and Body Style Determine Passat Fit

The bolt pattern, hub bore, and lug spec are constant across every modern Passat. What differs is body proportion and trim package. The B5 (1998-2005) was the Audi-platform Passat with longitudinal engine layout, including the niche W8 variant (2003-2004) with the 4.0L W8 engine that ran wider tires and a different brake package than the standard B5. We track the W8 as its own catalog row. The B6 (2006-2010) moved to the transverse-engine platform and split into a 2.0T trim, a 3.6L trim, and a Wagon body style with the Wagon ending in 2008. The B7 NMS (2012-2019) was the North-America-specific Passat built in Chattanooga, longer and roomier than the European B7 sold elsewhere. The B8 (2020-2022) carried that NMS architecture forward as the final NA-market Passat before the platform was discontinued after the 2022 model year.

Trim level (S, SE, SEL, SEL Premium, R-Line) does not change the wheel bolt pattern or hub bore. The R-Line is a styling and appearance package on the same chassis as the matching SE or SEL. Drivetrain on most modern Passats is front wheel drive. The B5 offered an optional 4Motion all wheel drive, and that does not change the wheel hub spec. Both FWD and 4Motion AWD run the same bolt pattern, hub bore, and accept the same aftermarket wheel sizes. Square (non-staggered) is the factory and recommended configuration on every Passat.

Offset windows are controlled by the Passat fender opening and brake clearance. For your exact aftermarket offset, three options:

  • 1. Use our Year/Make/Model search to see wheels that fit your specific Passat (each listing shows its own offset).
  • 2. Browse the Passat wheel gallery for real-life builds with size, offset, and tire spec captions.
  • 3. Call or chat with our team for a free fitment consultation.

Every wheel we recommend is backed by our Fitment Guarantee. If a wheel does not fit, we pick up the wheels and refund 100 percent. No risk to you.

How We Confirm Fitment on Volkswagen Passat Wheels

Element Wheels measures fitment on the platforms we sell wheels for, including every modern Passat generation back to the B5. For the Passat that means clearance from the wheel to the fender, gap between the back of the wheel and the suspension, brake caliper height across base and upper trim packages, hub bore confirmation at 57.1mm, and lug bolt seat depth for M14x1.5 bolts. The B6 Wagon and B5 W8 variants are measured as their own catalog rows so the body-specific clearances are captured rather than inferred from the sedan. At our fitment facility in Chandler, Arizona, the Element Wheels team measures directly on the physical platforms we support. We don't pull specs from manufacturer sheets the way most retailers do.

Volkswagen Passat Wheels and Rims FAQ

What is the bolt pattern on a Volkswagen Passat?

Every modern Passat uses 5x112 with M14x1.5 lug bolts. The pattern has stayed the same across the B5 (1998-2005), B6 (2006-2010), B7 NMS (2012-2019), and the final B8 (2020-2022). The same 5x112 pattern is shared with the rest of the modern VW passenger lineup (Jetta, Golf, GTI, Tiguan, Atlas) and the smaller Audi cars (A3). The older 1990-1997 Passat ran 4x100 or 5x100 depending on engine and is a different bolt pattern entirely.

What is the centerbore on a Volkswagen Passat?

57.1mm across every modern Passat (B5 through B8). The centerbore stayed consistent across all four generations in our catalog. A wheel bored to 57.1mm sits hub-centric on every modern Passat. The 57.1mm hub is the smaller VW Group passenger-car spec, not the larger 66.56mm hub used on the C-chassis Audi sedans (A6 / A7 from the C7 forward) and the modern MLB Evo Audi SUVs (Q7 4M, Q8), which share the Passat's 5x112 bolt pattern. The Porsche Cayenne and VW Touareg are a separate case: they run 5x130 entirely, a different bolt pattern, and those wheels do not bolt to a Passat at all.

Will Jetta or Golf wheels fit a Passat?

Bolt pattern crosses (every modern Passat, Jetta, and Golf is 5x112 / 57.1mm CB) but the right wheel for one platform may not fill the fender opening on another. The Passat is a longer, wider mid-size sedan than the Jetta. A Jetta wheel of the right diameter range will bolt to the Passat hub, but the offset may not match what the Passat fender is sized for. We measure each platform separately and the Year/Make/Model search returns wheels fit-tested on your specific Passat.

Is the Passat still being made?

Not for the North American market. The Passat was discontinued in NA after the 2022 model year. The B8 (2020-2022) is the final NA-market Passat. Wheels for every modern generation back to the B5 (1998) remain available and we support fitment on every chassis in the active catalog. If you have a B7 NMS or B8 and want to keep the car running into the 2030s, the aftermarket wheel choices below all support long-term ownership.

Are the B5 Passat W8 and the B6 Wagon different from the standard sedan?

Same bolt pattern (5x112), same hub bore (57.1mm), same lug bolts on both. The B5 W8 (2003-2004) is the 4.0L W8 engine variant of the B5 Passat with a different brake package than the standard B5 sedan. We track it as its own catalog row so the W8-specific clearance is captured. The B6 Wagon (2006-2008) is the wagon body style of the B6 with rear cargo body work that slightly changes the rear fender clearance compared to the B6 sedan. Both are measured as their own catalog rows. The wheels mostly cross between W8 and standard B5, and between B6 Wagon and B6 sedan, but the exact offset window can shift.

What is the largest wheel I can fit on a Passat?

20 inch is the top of our measured window on every modern Passat generation (B5, B6, B7 NMS, B8). 18 to 19 inch is the most common Passat aftermarket choice. The Passat is a mid-size sedan, not a sports car, and the practical visual sweet spot sits below the absolute top of the measured window. Above 20 inch, the tire becomes hard to source and ride quality drops sharply as the sidewall thins on the smaller body.

Do I need hub centric rings on a Volkswagen Passat?

Hub centric rings only when the aftermarket wheel has a centerbore larger than 57.1mm. If your fitment needs rings, they'll be included with the order.

How do I find the right wheels for my specific Passat?

Confirm your chassis (B5, B6, B7 NMS, or B8) and your body style (sedan, B6 Wagon, or B5 W8 variant). The bolt pattern is 5x112 on every modern Passat with a 57.1mm hub bore and M14x1.5 lug bolts. Use our Year/Make/Model search to see wheels that fit your specific Passat and browse the wheel gallery for real-life builds. If you have the older 1990-1997 Passat, the bolt pattern is different (4x100 or 5x100) and is not in scope for this hub. Contact our team for the older platform. Every wheel we recommend is backed by the Fitment Guarantee.
