Every modern Passat (B5 through B8) uses 5x112 with a 57.1mm hub bore and M14x1.5 lug bolts. VW runs lug bolts on the Passat, not studs and nuts the way most American and Asian sedans do. The lug bolt threads directly into the hub, the wheel sits between the head of the bolt and the hub face, and there is no fixed lug stud to align the wheel before tightening. This makes a hub-centric fit more important on the Passat than on a stud-and-nut sedan. The 57.1mm hub bore is the smaller VW Group passenger-car spec and it stayed consistent across every generation in our active catalog.

The 5x112 / 57.1mm spec on the modern Passat matches the rest of the modern Volkswagen passenger lineup (Jetta, Golf, GTI, Tiguan, Atlas on the same hub bore) and the smaller Audi cars (A3). The wheels bolt to the same hub. The 5x112 pattern is shared more broadly with the full-size MLB Evo luxury SUVs (Audi Q7, Q8, Porsche Cayenne, VW Touareg) and the modern C-chassis Audi sedans (A6, A7, A8 from the C7 forward), but those vehicles run a larger 66.56mm hub bore. Bolt pattern means a 5x112 wheel from a Q7 will line up with the Passat lug holes, but the hub bore is too large to sit hub-centric without rings, and the offset is sized for a much larger fender opening. The earlier 1990-1997 Passat ran different bolt patterns entirely (4x100 on the 4-cylinder and 5x100 on the 6-cylinder), so wheels from that older Passat era do NOT bolt to a modern Passat. Why Generation, Engine, and Body Style Determine Passat Fit

The bolt pattern, hub bore, and lug spec are constant across every modern Passat. What differs is body proportion and trim package. The B5 (1998-2005) was the Audi-platform Passat with longitudinal engine layout, including the niche W8 variant (2003-2004) with the 4.0L W8 engine that ran wider tires and a different brake package than the standard B5. We track the W8 as its own catalog row. The B6 (2006-2010) moved to the transverse-engine platform and split into a 2.0T trim, a 3.6L trim, and a Wagon body style with the Wagon ending in 2008. The B7 NMS (2012-2019) was the North-America-specific Passat built in Chattanooga, longer and roomier than the European B7 sold elsewhere. The B8 (2020-2022) carried that NMS architecture forward as the final NA-market Passat before the platform was discontinued after the 2022 model year.

Trim level (S, SE, SEL, SEL Premium, R-Line) does not change the wheel bolt pattern or hub bore. The R-Line is a styling and appearance package on the same chassis as the matching SE or SEL. Drivetrain on most modern Passats is front wheel drive. The B5 offered an optional 4Motion all wheel drive, and that does not change the wheel hub spec. Both FWD and 4Motion AWD run the same bolt pattern, hub bore, and accept the same aftermarket wheel sizes. Square (non-staggered) is the factory and recommended configuration on every Passat.
