Volkswagen Touareg Aftermarket Wheel Fitment
The Volkswagen Touareg is VW's full-size luxury SUV, sold in North America from the 2004 model year through 2017 before VW pulled the nameplate from the NA market. Element Wheels measures the Touareg across both generations in scope: the 1st gen (2004-2010) and the 2nd gen (2011-2017). Both generations use 5x130 with a 71.5mm hub bore and M14x1.5 lug bolts. This is the Audi-Porsche-VW SUV platform bolt pattern, NOT the 5x112 that the rest of VW's modern passenger cars run. The Touareg shares its chassis architecture with the first two generations of the Porsche Cayenne, and the 2nd gen also shares with the Audi Q7 4L. The 5x130 pattern carried straight from the 1st gen platform into the 2nd gen, so wheels designed for either generation of Touareg bolt to the same hub. Pick your generation below for the fitment specs that apply to your specific Touareg.
Find Your Volkswagen Touareg Generation
Pick your chassis to see wheels and rims that fit your specific Touareg. Bolt pattern is 5x130 across both generations with a 71.5mm hub bore and M14x1.5 lug bolts. The factory brake package on every Touareg in our catalog is the large-rotor luxury-SUV setup, so the front brake clearance is a real consideration on aftermarket wheel selection. What changes between the generations is body proportion, the aftermarket diameter window, and which other VW Group SUVs share the platform.
The Volkswagen Touareg Bolt Pattern
Both the 1st gen (2004-2010) and 2nd gen (2011-2017) Touareg use 5x130 with a 71.5mm hub bore and M14x1.5 lug bolts. The 5x130 pattern is the Audi-Porsche-VW SUV platform spec from the mid-2000s and early 2010s, not the 5x112 that the rest of VW's modern passenger cars run. A 5x112 wheel does NOT bolt onto any Touareg, and a 5x130 Touareg wheel does NOT bolt onto a Jetta, Golf, Passat, Tiguan, or Atlas. VW runs lug bolts on the Touareg, not lug studs and nuts. The lug bolt threads directly into the hub, the wheel sits between the head of the bolt and the hub face, and there is no fixed lug stud to align the wheel before tightening. This makes a hub-centric fit more important on the Touareg than on a stud-and-nut SUV.
The 71.5mm hub bore is the Audi-Porsche-VW SUV platform spec from the same era, the same hub bore used on the first-generation Porsche Cayenne 9PA (2003-2010), the second-generation Porsche Cayenne 92A (2011-2018), and the Audi Q7 4L (2007-2015). The 5x130 / 71.5mm pattern is also shared more broadly with older Porsche 911 and Panamera generations, but those have very different brake clearances and offset windows from a Touareg. Compare against the rest of the Volkswagen lineup at our Volkswagen wheels and rims hub.
Why Generation and Brake Package Determine Touareg Fit
The bolt pattern, hub bore, and lug spec are constant across both generations of Touareg in our catalog. What differs is body proportion and brake package. The 1st gen Touareg (2004-2010) is the PL71 platform shared with the first-generation Porsche Cayenne 9PA. Power options ranged from the 3.2L V6 up to the V8 and the V10 TDI, and a small number of cars left the factory with the W12. Brake clearance on the 1st gen is the determining factor on aftermarket wheel selection at the smaller end of the diameter window, especially on the V8 and V10 TDI trims. The 2nd gen Touareg (2011-2017) is the PL72 platform shared with the second-generation Porsche Cayenne 92A and the Audi Q7 4L. The 2nd gen is lighter and longer than the 1st gen, ran with V6 gas and V6 TDI engines in the NA market, and the brake package is large enough that wheel selection at the smaller end of the diameter window remains brake-limited.
Drivetrain on every NA-market Touareg is permanent all wheel drive (4Motion). All wheel drive does not change the wheel bolt pattern, hub bore, or accept a different aftermarket size; both generations of Touareg run the same hub spec regardless of trim. Square (non-staggered) is the factory and recommended configuration on every Touareg. The Touareg was discontinued in North America after the 2017 model year. The 3rd gen Touareg (2018 and up) was sold in Europe and other markets but never came to the NA market, so the 2nd gen is the final generation we support for the NA market.
Element Wheels Measured Aftermarket Fitment, Volkswagen Touareg
Publishable factory and wheel specs across the Touareg generations:
- 1st Gen Touareg (2004-2010): 5x130 bolt pattern, 71.5mm hub bore, M14x1.5 lug bolts. Large-rotor front brake package. Element aftermarket diameter range: 17 to 22 inch. Aftermarket width range: 8 to 10.5 inch. Square fitment. PL71 platform shared with the 1st gen Porsche Cayenne 9PA.
- 2nd Gen Touareg (2011-2017): 5x130 bolt pattern, 71.5mm hub bore, M14x1.5 lug bolts. Large-rotor front brake package. Element aftermarket diameter range: 18 to 22 inch. Aftermarket width range: 8 to 10.5 inch. Square fitment. PL72 platform shared with the 2nd gen Porsche Cayenne 92A and the Audi Q7 4L.
Offset windows are controlled by the Touareg fender opening and the front brake clearance. For your exact aftermarket offset, three options:
- 1. Use our Year/Make/Model search to see wheels that fit your specific Touareg (each listing shows its own offset).
- 2. Browse the Touareg wheel gallery for real-life builds with size, offset, and tire spec captions.
- 3. Call or chat with our team for a free fitment consultation.
Every wheel we recommend is backed by our Fitment Guarantee. If a wheel does not fit, we pick up the wheels and refund 100 percent. No risk to you.
How We Confirm Fitment on Volkswagen Touareg Wheels
Element Wheels measures fitment on the platforms we sell wheels for, including both generations of Touareg. For the Touareg that means clearance from the wheel to the fender, gap between the back of the wheel and the suspension, brake caliper height across the large-rotor luxury-SUV brake package, hub bore confirmation at 71.5mm, and lug bolt seat depth for M14x1.5 bolts. The brake clearance check is the determining factor on the smaller end of the diameter window because the Touareg brake package is sized for a full-size luxury SUV, not a passenger car. Both generations are measured as their own catalog rows so the chassis-specific clearances are captured rather than inferred from the Cayenne or Q7 platform sister. At our fitment facility in Chandler, Arizona, the Element Wheels team measures directly on the physical platforms we support. We don't pull specs from manufacturer sheets the way most retailers do.
Volkswagen Touareg Wheels and Rims FAQ
What is the bolt pattern on a Volkswagen Touareg?
Every Touareg sold in North America uses 5x130 with a 71.5mm hub bore and M14x1.5 lug bolts. The pattern is the same across the 1st gen (2004-2010) and the 2nd gen (2011-2017). This is the Audi-Porsche-VW SUV platform bolt pattern, NOT the 5x112 that the rest of VW's modern passenger cars run. A 5x112 wheel does not bolt onto any Touareg.
What is the centerbore on a Volkswagen Touareg?
71.5mm across both generations in our catalog. A wheel bored to 71.5mm sits hub-centric on any Touareg. The 71.5mm hub is the Audi-Porsche-VW SUV platform spec from the mid-2000s and early 2010s, the same hub bore used on the first-generation Porsche Cayenne 9PA, the second-generation Cayenne 92A, and the Audi Q7 4L (2007-2015).
Will Porsche Cayenne or Audi Q7 wheels fit my Touareg?
The 1st gen Touareg shares its platform with the first-generation Porsche Cayenne 9PA (2003-2010), and the 2nd gen Touareg shares with the second-generation Porsche Cayenne 92A (2011-2018) and the Audi Q7 4L (2007-2015). All four of those SUVs use 5x130 with a 71.5mm hub bore, so the wheels bolt to the same hub. Offset and brake clearance still vary platform to platform, so a Cayenne wheel that fits a Cayenne nicely can sit too deep or too far out on a Touareg. We measure each platform separately. The Audi Q7 4M (2017 and up) and the Audi Q8 moved to 5x112 / 66.56mm and do NOT cross to the Touareg. The 3rd gen Cayenne, Bentley Bentayga, and Lamborghini Urus stayed on 5x130 with a 71.6mm centerbore: same bolt pattern as the Touareg, with a 0.1mm hub-bore difference that hub-centric rings handle.
Will Jetta, Golf, or Passat wheels fit my Touareg?
No. The modern Jetta, Golf, GTI, Passat, Tiguan, and Atlas all use 5x112 with a 57.1mm hub bore. The Touareg uses 5x130 with a 71.5mm hub bore. The bolt pattern doesn't match and the wheels do not bolt across. If you are stepping up from a smaller VW to a Touareg or moving from a Touareg back down to a Jetta or Passat, you need a different set of wheels for each car.
What is the largest wheel I can fit on a Touareg?
22 inch is the top of our measured window on both generations of Touareg. 20 to 22 inch is the most common Touareg aftermarket choice. The Touareg has the body and the brake package to carry the larger diameter comfortably, more so than a smaller VW sedan, and the fender opening is sized for the wider tire that goes with a 22 inch wheel. The smaller end of the diameter window is determined by brake clearance, which is why we don't list 16 or 17 inch sizes for the 2nd gen.
Is the Touareg still being made?
Not for the North American market. The Touareg was discontinued in NA after the 2017 model year. The 2nd gen (2011-2017) is the final NA-market Touareg. The 3rd gen Touareg (2018 and up) was sold in Europe and other markets but never came to North America. Wheels for both NA-market generations remain available and we support fitment on every chassis in the active catalog. If you have a 1st gen or 2nd gen and want to keep the car running into the 2030s, the aftermarket wheel choices below all support long-term ownership.
Do I need hub centric rings on a Volkswagen Touareg?
Hub centric rings only when the aftermarket wheel has a centerbore larger than 71.5mm. If your fitment needs rings, they'll be included with the order.
How do I find the right wheels for my specific Touareg?
Confirm your chassis (1st gen 2004-2010 or 2nd gen 2011-2017). Both use 5x130 with a 71.5mm hub bore and M14x1.5 lug bolts. Use our Year/Make/Model search to see wheels that fit your specific Touareg and browse the wheel gallery for real-life builds. The front brake clearance on both generations is sized for the large-rotor luxury-SUV package, so we recommend confirming the diameter and offset against your specific trim before ordering. Every wheel we recommend is backed by the Fitment Guarantee.
