Volkswagen fitment is one of the cleaner European landscapes on the site. The modern Volkswagen lineup runs almost entirely on 5x112, the same pattern shared with Audi and Mercedes. The exceptions are the Touareg (5x130 on the Porsche Cayenne shared platform) and the Routan minivan (5x127 because it was a rebadged Dodge Grand Caravan). The older Volkswagen lineup (early Golf, early Jetta, early Passat, Beetle, Cabriolet III, Rabbit) used 5x100 or 4x100 depending on the year. The Volkswagen Bolt Pattern Landscape

Volkswagen runs 5x112 across nearly the entire modern lineup, with 5x130 on the Touareg, 5x127 on the Routan, and 5x100 or 4x100 on older small cars.

The Touareg on the Cayenne 5x130 platform and the Routan on the Dodge minivan 5x127 platform are the two major outliers in the Volkswagen lineup. The pattern transition on the Golf/Jetta from 5x100 to 5x112 around 2006 is the biggest source of cross shopping confusion on older platforms.

Volkswagen Golf R, GTI Brake Clearance, and the Touareg Porsche Platform Share

The Golf R and GTI are the Volkswagen brake clearance challenge. The GTI runs larger front brakes than the base Golf, and the Golf R adds an even larger front brake package paired with the AWD platform. A wheel that fits a base Golf may not clear the GTI or Golf R brake caliper. Each performance variant is tracked separately because the brake clearance windows narrow as the brake package grows.

The Volkswagen Group platform sharing is the most interesting Volkswagen fitment. The Touareg shares its platform with the Porsche Cayenne and the Audi Q7 first generation. All three SUVs use 5x130 with similar offset windows. A Cayenne wheel will often fit a Touareg with confirmed offset. The Atlas shares its platform with the Audi Q7 (second generation) and the Bentley Bentayga, all on 5x112.

The older Volkswagen lineup had a pattern transition around 2006. The Mk4 Golf, Jetta, and Beetle used 5x100. The Mk5 Golf, Jetta, and Passat moved to 5x112. The Passat made the transition earlier (1998). The Beetle transitioned for the New Beetle redesign. Always confirm year and generation before assuming wheels carry across the same model name.

How We Confirm Fitment

Element Wheels measures fitment on Volkswagen models we sell wheels for. For each chassis and brake combination we measure clearance from the wheel to the fender, gap between the back of the wheel and any suspension components, brake caliper height, hub protrusion, lug height, and how much room the front wheel has when turning lock to lock. We do this on the car, not from a spec sheet.

That measurement work covers the most active Volkswagen platforms across the catalog. The Golf R and GTI are tracked separately from the base Golf because of the larger brake setup. The Touareg is tracked on the Porsche Cayenne 5x130 platform. The Routan is tracked on the Dodge Grand Caravan 5x127 platform. The older 5x100 Volkswagen platforms are tracked separately from the modern 5x112 lineup.
