Volvo V50 Aftermarket Wheel Fitment

The Volvo V50 is the wagon sibling to the 2nd gen S40 sedan, sold in the US from the 2005 model year through the 2011 model year as a single generation. The V50 was built on the Ford C1 platform Volvo developed during the Ford ownership years, the same chassis shared with the 2nd gen S40, the C30 hatchback, the 2nd gen C70 convertible, the 2nd gen Ford Focus, and the 1st gen Mazda 3. The V50 carries Volvo's 5x108 bolt pattern with a 63.4mm hub bore and M12x1.5 lug nuts on studs. Element Wheels has measured fitment on the V50 directly. Every US-market V50 from 2005 through 2011 runs the same 5x108 / 63.4mm spec. The chassis is square (non-staggered) front to rear across every trim. Compare across the rest of the Volvo lineup at our Volvo wheels and rims hub.

Find Your Volvo V50 Year

The V50 ran as a single generation from the 2005 model year through the 2011 model year in the US. This hub is one parent page covering every V50 year. Bolt pattern, hub bore, and lug spec are identical across every model year and trim. The catalog row applies to every V50 sold in the US.

The Volvo V50 Bolt Pattern

Every V50 from 2005 through 2011 runs 5x108 (also expressed as 5x4.25) with a 63.4mm hub bore. The pattern is consistent across every trim and every model year. All V50 lug hardware is M12x1.5 lug nuts on studs. 5x108 is the standard Volvo bolt pattern, used on the 2nd gen S40, C30, 2nd gen C70, modern XC40, XC60, XC90, S60, V60, S90, and V90. The 63.4mm hub bore on the V50 matches the rest of Volvo's 5x108 lineup, so wheels are commonly cross-shopped within the broader Volvo range when diameter and offset window also match.

The V50 sits on the Ford C1 platform that Volvo developed during the Ford ownership years. C1 is also the chassis underneath the 2nd gen S40 (the V50's sedan sibling), the C30 hatchback, the 2nd gen C70 convertible, the 2nd gen Ford Focus, and the 1st gen Mazda 3. The platform fact matters because the V50's chassis hard points are shared across these cars even though only the Volvo C1 cars carry the 5x108 / 63.4mm Volvo wheel spec. The Ford Focus and Mazda 3 versions of the C1 platform run their own bolt patterns. The Volvo C1 cars (S40, V50, C30, C70) share the same 5x108 / 63.4mm wheel hardware. One thing to note on lug thread specifically: the V50 uses M12x1.5 lug nuts, which is the older Volvo thread spec. Modern Volvos on the CMA and SPA platforms moved to M14x1.5. Lug hardware does not interchange between the V50 era and the modern Volvo era even though the bolt pattern and hub bore are the same. What 5x108 is NOT: it is not the same as 5x110 (common GM pattern) or 5x112 (common German pattern). A wheel built for those patterns will not bolt to a V50.

Volvo V50 Trims and Wheel Specs

The V50 was sold in the US across the 2005 through 2011 model years in several trims, starting with the 2.4i and the T5 (turbocharged inline five). Later years added the T5 AWD with the Haldex all-wheel-drive system. All V50 trims share the same Ford C1 chassis, the same 5x108 / 63.4mm bolt pattern and hub bore, and the same M12x1.5 lug nut spec. Factory wheel diameter on the V50 ranges from 15 to 17 inch depending on trim, with the T5 trim and the R-Design package stepping up the factory diameter.

The front brake on the V50 is matched in size to the rear brake on every trim. All V50 trims are square (non-staggered) front to rear. The T5 AWD adds a Haldex coupling at the rear axle for power transfer in slip conditions, but it does not change the wheel fitment spec. The bolt pattern, hub bore, and lug thread are identical on the front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive V50.

Element Wheels Measured Aftermarket Fitment, Volvo V50

Publishable factory and wheel specs across V50 trims:

  • V50 2.4i and T5 FWD (2005-2011): 5x108 bolt pattern, 63.4mm hub bore, M12x1.5 lug nuts on studs. Element aftermarket diameter range: 15-18 inch. Aftermarket width range: 6.0-8.0 inch. Square (non-staggered). Matched front and rear brake size.
  • V50 T5 AWD (later model years, Haldex): Same 5x108 / 63.4mm spec as the FWD V50. Same M12x1.5 lug nut spec. Same Element aftermarket diameter and width range. The Haldex rear coupling does not change wheel fitment.

For your exact aftermarket offset, three options:

  • 1. Use our Year/Make/Model search to see wheels that fit your specific V50 (each listing shows its own offset).
  • 2. Browse the V50 wheel gallery for real-life builds with size, offset, and tire spec captions.
  • 3. Call or chat with our team for a free fitment consultation.

Every wheel we recommend is backed by our Fitment Guarantee. If a wheel does not fit, we pick up the wheels and refund 100 percent. No risk to you.

How We Confirm Fitment on Volvo V50 Wheels

Element Wheels measures fitment on the platforms we sell wheels for, including the V50. For the V50 that means clearance from the wheel to the fender on both axles, gap between the back of the wheel and the suspension components, brake caliper height on the front and rear (matched on the V50), hub bore confirmation to the 63.4mm Volvo hub, lug seat depth on the M12x1.5 nuts, and tire clearance at full lock with the larger 17 and 18 inch options. At our fitment facility in Chandler, Arizona, the Element Wheels team measures directly on the physical platforms we support. We don't pull specs from manufacturer sheets the way most retailers do.

Volvo V50 Wheels and Rims FAQ

What is the bolt pattern on a Volvo V50?

Every V50 from 2005 through 2011 runs 5x108 (also expressed as 5x4.25) with a 63.4mm hub bore. The pattern is consistent across every trim and every model year. All V50 lug hardware is M12x1.5 lug nuts on studs. 5x108 is the standard Volvo bolt pattern across the broader Volvo range.

Does the V50 share wheels with the 2nd gen S40?

Yes. The V50 wagon is the wagon sibling to the 2nd gen S40 sedan on the Ford C1 platform. Bolt pattern (5x108), hub bore (63.4mm), and lug thread (M12x1.5) are identical between the two. The C30 hatchback and the 2nd gen C70 convertible also share the same wheel hardware. A V50 wheel will bolt to a 2nd gen S40, a C30, or a 2nd gen C70 at the lug-pattern level. Diameter, width, and offset still need to match each car's specific fitment window.

Does the V50 use lug nuts or lug bolts?

Lug nuts on studs, M12x1.5 thread. The studs are pressed into the hub and the nuts tighten against the wheel face. This is the older Volvo thread spec. Modern Volvos on the CMA and SPA platforms moved to M14x1.5. Lug hardware does not interchange between the V50 era and the modern Volvo era even though the bolt pattern and hub bore are the same. When mounting aftermarket wheels on a V50, the wheel face seat needs to match a lug nut seat.

What is the largest wheel I can fit on a Volvo V50?

Our measured Element aftermarket window tops at 18 inch on the V50. 17 inch is the most common upgrade pick over the factory 15, 16, or 17 inch wheels. 18 inch on the V50 requires the right offset and tire profile to clear the inner fender and the suspension at full lock.

Are Volvo V50 wheels staggered?

No. The V50 ships square from the factory with the same wheel and tire size on every corner. The T5 AWD Haldex driveline and the tire rotation on a unibody compact wagon both benefit from matched tire sizes at every corner. Aftermarket builds on the V50 also stay square.

Does the AWD V50 use a different bolt pattern than the FWD V50?

No. The FWD V50 and the T5 AWD V50 share the same 5x108 / 63.4mm bolt pattern and hub bore, and the same M12x1.5 lug nut spec. The Haldex coupling at the rear axle on the T5 AWD changes the driveline but not the wheel fitment hardware. Same wheels fit both driveline configurations.

Can I use modern Volvo wheels on a V50?

The bolt pattern (5x108) and hub bore (63.4mm) are the same between the V50 and a modern XC60, S60, V60, or XC40, so a modern Volvo wheel will bolt to a V50 at the lug pattern level. The lug thread is different. The V50 uses M12x1.5 lug nuts, while modern CMA and SPA Volvos use M14x1.5 lug bolts or lug nuts. You can run a modern wheel on a V50 only if the wheel face seat is compatible with the V50's lug nut hardware. The offset window on a modern Volvo wheel may also be wrong for the V50's smaller fender wells, so confirm offset before committing.

Do I need hub centric rings on a Volvo V50?

Hub centric rings only when the aftermarket wheel centerbore is larger than the 63.4mm V50 hub. If your fitment needs rings, they'll be included with the order.
