Both the gas XC40 (T4 and T5 trims) and the XC40 Recharge (the fully electric variant) share the same chassis spec, the same bolt pattern, the same hub bore, and the same lug hardware. The XC40 sits on the same CMA platform as the Polestar 2, which means the bolt pattern and hub bore on the XC40 are identical to the Polestar 2. The Volvo XC40 Bolt Pattern

Every XC40 from the 2019 launch forward runs 5x108 (also expressed as 5x4.25) with a 63.4mm hub bore. The pattern is consistent across the gas XC40 (T4 and T5 trims) and the XC40 Recharge (fully electric). All XC40 lug hardware is M14x1.5 lug bolts threaded directly into the hub. 5x108 is the standard Volvo bolt pattern across the broader Volvo range, used on the XC60, XC90 (1st and 2nd gen), S60, V60, S90, and V90. The 63.4mm hub bore on the XC40 matches the modern XC60, S60, V60, S90, V90, and the 2nd gen XC90, so wheels are commonly cross-shopped across these models when the diameter and offset window also matches.

The XC40 sits on the Volvo CMA platform, which is also the chassis underneath the Polestar 2 sedan. Polestar 2 carries the same 5x108 / 63.4mm bolt pattern and hub bore as the XC40. The Polestar 2 brake package and offset window run differently because Polestar tunes the chassis for a sport sedan rather than a compact SUV, but the bolt pattern and hub geometry are identical. What 5x108 is NOT: it is not the same as 5x110 (common GM pattern) or 5x112 (common German pattern). A wheel built for those patterns will not bolt to an XC40.

Volvo XC40 Trims and Wheel Specs

The gas XC40 was sold in T4 and T5 trims (Momentum, R-Design, Inscription, and later Plus and Ultimate). All gas trims share the same 5x108 / 63.4mm bolt pattern and hub bore. Factory wheel diameter on the gas XC40 ranges from 18 to 21 inch depending on trim. The R-Design pushes to the upper end of that window with a darker exterior trim package.

The XC40 Recharge is the all-electric variant, launched in the US in 2021 (sold as a 2021 model year). Recharge shares the CMA platform with the gas XC40 but carries a larger battery pack and the dual-motor electric drivetrain. The bolt pattern, hub bore, and lug spec are identical to the gas XC40 (5x108 / 63.4mm, M14x1.5 lug bolts). The added battery weight does not change the wheel fitment spec, but it does affect tire load index, and we recommend confirming the tire load rating matches the Recharge load capacity when choosing a new tire size. The front brake on the XC40 is matched in size to the rear brake on most trims, which is unusual on a luxury SUV but is consistent with the XC40's compact platform engineering. All XC40 trims are square (non-staggered) front to rear.
