Dodge Ram 1500 Aftermarket Wheel Fitment
The Dodge Ram 1500 is the half-ton workhorse of the Ram lineup and the buying decision starts with one question: 5-lug or 6-lug. From the 2nd gen BR/BE (1994-2001) through the 4th gen DS/DJ (2009-2018), every Ram 1500 ran a 5-lug 5x139.7 bolt pattern (also called 5x5.5) with a 77.8mm hub bore. Starting with the 5th gen DT in the 2019 model year, the Ram 1500 pivoted to a 6-lug 6x139.7 bolt pattern, still with a 77.8mm hub bore. From 2019 forward the truck buyer has to know which version is in their driveway because 5-lug Ram 1500 wheels do not bolt to the 6-lug 2019 and up DT trucks. Stellantis kept the previous-generation 5-lug truck in production as the Ram 1500 Classic from 2019 through 2023, sold alongside the new 6-lug DT, so a 2019-2023 Ram 1500 can be either 5-lug or 6-lug depending on which trim. The TRX (2021-2024) is the off-road performance variant of the DT and runs the same 6-lug 6x139.7 spec as the rest of the DT lineup. Element Wheels has measured fitment across every Ram 1500 era and tracks the lift packages (stock height, 2-3 inch leveled, 4 inch lift on 35s, 6 inch lift on 35s or 37s, 8 inch lift on 40s) as separate fitments. Pick your generation below.
Find Your Dodge Ram 1500 Generation
Pick your year range and lug count to see wheels and rims that fit your specific Ram 1500. The bolt pattern depends on which version of the truck you have. 1994-2018 trucks are 5-lug on 5x139.7. 2019 and up DT trucks are 6-lug on 6x139.7. The Ram 1500 Classic (2019-2023) is 5-lug on 5x139.7 even though it was sold alongside the 6-lug DT. The TRX (2021-2024) is 6-lug on 6x139.7. The lift status is the other variable that changes the fitment window. The heavy-duty Ram 2500 lives on the Ram 2500 hub. The one-ton Ram 3500 lives on the Ram 3500 hub.
The Dodge Ram 1500 Bolt Pattern
The Ram 1500 has used two distinct bolt patterns across its modern history. From the 2nd gen BR/BE (1994-2001) through the 4th gen DS/DJ (2009-2018), the Ram 1500 ran a 5-lug 5x139.7 bolt pattern (also called 5x5.5 in imperial because 139.7mm equals 5.5 inches) with a 77.8mm hub bore. Starting with the 5th gen DT in the 2019 model year, the Ram 1500 pivoted to a 6-lug 6x139.7 bolt pattern (also called 6x5.5), still with the same 77.8mm hub bore. The lug spacing on a 6x139.7 wheel and a 5x139.7 wheel is similar enough that the patterns share the imperial nickname, but the lug count is different and the wheels do not interchange.
Two important details. First, Stellantis kept the previous-generation 5-lug truck in production as the Ram 1500 Classic from 2019 through 2023, sold alongside the new 6-lug DT. The Ram 1500 Classic is a continuation of the 4th gen DS/DJ chassis and still runs 5-lug 5x139.7. So a 2019-2023 Ram 1500 can be either 5-lug (Classic trim) or 6-lug (new DT) depending on which truck is in the driveway. Confirm the lug count visually before buying wheels. Second, the 2006-2008 model years included a heavy-duty 1500 variant on an 8-lug 8x165.1 / 121.3mm CB bolt pattern, sold as a 1500 trim but using the same hardware as a Ram 2500. That truck shares hardware with the Ram 2500 and the Ram 3500 SRW. Our catalog tracks the 8-lug 2006-2008 variant separately. Compare across the rest of the Ram lineup at our Ram 2500 hub and the Ram 3500 hub.
Why Lift Status and Trim Drive Ram 1500 Wheel Buying
Within a given generation, the Ram 1500 buyer base splits into four rough groups. Stock-height truck owners running 18 to 22 inch wheels for street and overland builds. Leveled trucks at 2 to 3 inches up on 33 or 35 inch tires. 4 inch lifted trucks on 35s. 6 inch lifted trucks on 35s or 37s. 8 inch lifted trucks on 40s. Each of these gets its own fitment row in our catalog because the wheel that fits a stock-height Ram 1500 can rub a fender or hit a control arm once the truck is lifted, and the wider lifted-fitment wheels often poke past the fender on a stock-height truck. The Rebel trim ships from the factory with a slightly higher ride height and a more aggressive offset than the base 1500, sized to fit within the leveled-to-lifted fitment window without aftermarket lift. The TRX (6-lug, 2021-2024) is the supercharged 702 horsepower off-road performance variant of the DT, sized for 35 inch tires from the factory.
The DT pivot at 2019 is the biggest cross-generation hurdle. The 2019 and up DT has a 6-lug hub, a different brake package, and a different fender shape than the 4th gen DS/DJ. Wheels do not cross between the 4th gen 5-lug and the 5th gen DT 6-lug regardless of size or offset. The Ram 1500 Classic (2019-2023) is the bridge case: a customer buying a 2020 Ram 1500 Classic for example is still on the 5-lug 4th gen hardware and shops the 4th gen wheel catalog, not the new DT wheel catalog.

How We Confirm Fitment on Dodge Ram 1500 Wheels
Element Wheels measures fitment on the Ram 1500 directly across every generation we sell wheels for and both 5-lug and 6-lug versions. For the Ram 1500 that means clearance from the wheel to the fender, gap between the back of the wheel and the suspension, brake caliper height, hub bore confirmation at 77.8mm across every generation, lug seat depth (different on 5-lug versus 6-lug hubs), and turning clearance with the wheel and tire installed at the various lift heights. On the TRX we measure the widebody fender clearance separately from the standard DT because the wider fender opens up a different fitment window. At our fitment facility in Chandler, Arizona, the Element Wheels team measures directly on the physical platforms we support. We don't pull specs from manufacturer sheets the way most retailers do.
That measurement work is what produced the lift-specific and tire-size-specific fitment windows on this page. It is also why every wheel we recommend is backed by our Fitment Guarantee. If a wheel does not fit, we pick up the wheels and refund 100 percent. No risk to you.
Dodge Ram 1500 Wheels and Rims FAQ
What is the bolt pattern on a Dodge Ram 1500?
It depends on the era. From the 2nd gen BR/BE (1994-2001) through the 4th gen DS/DJ (2009-2018), every Ram 1500 ran a 5-lug 5x139.7 bolt pattern (also called 5x5.5 because 139.7mm equals 5.5 inches) with a 77.8mm hub bore. Starting with the 5th gen DT in the 2019 model year, the Ram 1500 pivoted to a 6-lug 6x139.7 bolt pattern, still with a 77.8mm hub bore and an M14x1.5 thread. The Ram 1500 Classic (2019-2023) is a continuation of the 4th gen and still runs 5-lug 5x139.7. The TRX is the 6-lug DT off-road performance variant. The 2006-2008 model years also offered an 8-lug heavy-duty 1500 variant on 8x165.1 / 121.3mm CB.
Do 5-lug Ram 1500 wheels fit a 2019 and up DT?
No. The 2019 and up DT Ram 1500 is 6-lug 6x139.7. A 5-lug 5x139.7 wheel from a 1994-2018 Ram 1500 will not bolt to a 6-lug DT hub. The hub bore is the same at 77.8mm, but the lug count is different. The Ram 1500 Classic (2019-2023) is the exception within the modern era: the Classic is a 4th gen carryover with the 5-lug 5x139.7 spec, so 5-lug wheels do fit a Ram 1500 Classic. Confirm the lug count visually before buying wheels for any 2019-2023 Ram 1500.
What is the difference between Ram 1500 and Ram 1500 Classic?
The Ram 1500 Classic is the previous-generation 4th gen DS/DJ chassis sold alongside the new 5th gen DT from 2019 through 2023. Stellantis kept the older truck in production as a budget option while ramping up the redesigned DT. The Classic is 5-lug 5x139.7 with a 77.8mm hub bore. The new DT is 6-lug 6x139.7 with the same 77.8mm hub bore. From a wheel fitment perspective, a Ram 1500 Classic shops the 4th gen wheel catalog. A new DT shops the 5th gen wheel catalog. The two are not interchangeable.
Are Ram 1500 TRX wheels different from the standard DT?
The TRX shares the 6-lug 6x139.7 bolt pattern, the 77.8mm hub bore, and the M14x1.5 thread with the standard DT. What is different is the widebody fender package and the factory 35 inch tire. The TRX widebody accepts a wider wheel and tire setup than the standard DT without rubbing the fender. We track the TRX as a separate fitment row from the standard DT because the widebody opens a different outer clearance window. A stock-height TRX wheel will fit a standard DT in pattern and hub, but the offset and width may not match the standard DT's narrower fender.
Will Ram 1500 wheels fit a Ram 2500 or Ram 3500?
No. The half-ton Ram 1500 runs 5-lug 5x139.7 (1994-2018, 2019-2023 Classic) or 6-lug 6x139.7 (2019 and up DT, TRX) with a 77.8mm hub bore. The three-quarter-ton Ram 2500 and one-ton Ram 3500 run an 8-lug 8x165.1 / 121.3mm CB pattern across every generation. The half-ton and heavy-duty Ram trucks do not share wheels. The exception is the 2006-2008 heavy-duty 1500 variant, which used the 8-lug 8x165.1 pattern and shares hardware with the Ram 2500 SRW. Compare across the rest of the Ram lineup at our Ram 2500 hub.
What is the largest wheel I can fit on a Dodge Ram 1500?
Our measured aftermarket window tops at 24 inch on the 4th gen DS/DJ (2009-2018) and 5th gen DT (2019 and up) at stock height. 20 to 22 inch is the most common stock-height aftermarket choice. 24 inch fits with the right offset. For lifted builds running 35 to 40 inch tires, 17 to 20 inch wheels are the most common because the tire takes the visual height and a smaller wheel gives more sidewall for the off-road duty cycle. The TRX has a widebody fender that allows a wider tire setup at any wheel diameter. The 2nd gen BR/BE (1994-2001) and 3rd gen DR/DH (2002-2008) top at 22 inch.
Do I need hub centric rings on a Dodge Ram 1500?
Hub centric rings only when the aftermarket wheel has a centerbore larger than the Ram 1500's factory 77.8mm hub. The 77.8mm hub bore is consistent across every generation, including the 5-lug 1994-2018 trucks, the 6-lug 2019 and up DT, the Ram 1500 Classic, and the TRX. If your fitment needs rings, they'll be included with the order.
How do I find wheels for my specific Ram 1500 build?
Four steps. Confirm the lug count visually (5-lug means pre-2019 or Classic, 6-lug means 2019 and up DT or TRX). Confirm your generation by model year (2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th). Confirm your lift status and tire size (stock, leveled, 4 inch on 35s, 6 inch on 35s or 37s, 8 inch on 40s). Use our Year/Make/Model search to see wheels that fit your specific Ram 1500 and browse the wheel gallery for real-life builds. If your truck is lifted, running 35 inch or larger tires, or a TRX, contact our team for a free fitment consultation before ordering. Every wheel we recommend is backed by the Fitment Guarantee.
