Pontiac GTO Aftermarket Wheel Fitment

The modern Pontiac GTO was sold in the US and Canada for the 2004, 2005, and 2006 model years only. This hub covers that car. The 2004 GTO ran the 5.7L LS1 V8. The 2005 and 2006 GTOs ran the 6.0L LS2 V8 with a brake package upgrade. RWD on every trim. The car is the Holden Monaro VZ rebadged for North America with cosmetic and lighting changes for US compliance. Same chassis. Same suspension geometry. Same drivetrain architecture. The GTO is a same-chassis rebadge similar to the later Pontiac G8 (Holden Commodore VE) and the Chevrolet SS Sport Sedan (Holden Commodore VF): GM brought Holden Australia's rear-drive V8 lineup to North America under different badges over the 2000s and 2010s. Pontiac wound down before the brand was eliminated in 2010. Element Wheels measures fitment on the GTO as a single leaf covering both the LS1 and LS2 trims. Bolt pattern is 5x120 with a 69.5mm hub bore on every modern GTO.

Find Your Pontiac GTO Fitment

The modern GTO (2004-2006) lives as a single fitment leaf in our catalog, covering both engine variants (LS1 in 2004, LS2 in 2005-2006) and both model-year brake packages. Bolt pattern, hub bore, and the aftermarket diameter and width windows are common across all three model years.

The Pontiac GTO Bolt Pattern

Every modern Pontiac GTO (2004-2006) uses 5x120 with a 69.5mm hub bore. The 5x120 bolt pattern is the GM Holden Australian rear-drive standard, shared by the contemporary Holden Monaro VZ (which the GTO IS, mechanically) and by the later Holden Commodore VE / Pontiac G8 (2008-2009) and Holden Commodore VF / Chevrolet SS Sport Sedan (2014-2017). Lug spec on the GTO is M12x1.5. The hub bore on the GTO (69.5mm) is slightly different from the G8 (66.9mm) and the SS Sport Sedan (66.9mm) because Holden updated the hub geometry between the Monaro VZ generation that underpins the GTO and the later Commodore VE platform that underpins the G8 and SS Sport Sedan. The bolt circle stayed the same at 5x120 across all three GM Holden rebadges, but the hub bore did not.

The 5x120 pattern is also used by BMW (bored 72.56mm) and the Tesla Model S (bored 64.1mm), and the bolt circle on those wheels will physically match a GTO hub. A BMW-bored wheel needs a hub centric ring (72.56-to-69.5mm) to seat against the GTO hub face. A Tesla Model S wheel will not fit because the 64.1mm bore is smaller than the 69.5mm GTO hub. Compare across the rest of the Pontiac lineup at our Pontiac wheels and rims hub.

Why the Modern GTO Rides on the Holden Monaro VZ Chassis

The modern Pontiac GTO is the Holden Monaro VZ rebadged for the US and Canadian markets. Holden engineered the Monaro in Australia as a two-door coupe on the GM Holden V-body chassis. Pontiac brought the car to North America for 2004 through 2006 under the GTO name, reviving the badge from the original 1960s muscle car (a car this modern GTO has no chassis relationship to). The conversion work was emissions, lighting, and badging changes. The fundamentals of the car are Australian-engineered. The 2004 model year used the 5.7L LS1 V8 from the contemporary Chevrolet Corvette. The 2005 and 2006 model years switched to the larger 6.0L LS2 V8, also from the Corvette, paired with an upgraded brake package. The GTO is a low-volume car in the US (about 41,000 sold across all three model years) and built a strong enthusiast following that has kept the platform active in the aftermarket.

The same-chassis fact with the Holden Monaro VZ is genuinely useful for sourcing parts: a wheel listed for "Holden Monaro VZ" from an Australian-market vendor is the same fitment as a US-market Pontiac GTO wheel, including the 5x120 / 69.5mm bolt pattern and the offset window. Note that the modern GTO is a different chassis from the later G8 and the Chevrolet SS Sport Sedan, even though all three are 5x120 GM Holden rebadges. The GTO is the Monaro VZ. The G8 is the Commodore VE. The SS Sport Sedan is the Commodore VF. The Commodore VE introduced the GM Zeta platform. The Monaro VZ predates it. Hub bore differs between the GTO (69.5mm) and the G8/SS Sport Sedan (66.9mm). NOTE: there is also a classic 1960s and 1970s Pontiac GTO that has no chassis relationship to this modern car. The classic GTO is not covered by this hub.

Element Wheels Measured Aftermarket Fitment, Pontiac GTO

Publishable factory and wheel specs across the modern Pontiac GTO:

  • Pontiac GTO (2004-2006, LS1 and LS2): 5x120 bolt pattern, 69.5mm hub bore. Element aftermarket diameter range: 17-20 inch. Aftermarket front width 8-8.5 inch, rear width 9-10 inch. Optional staggered (customers can run square or staggered). Lug spec M12x1.5. Same chassis as the Holden Monaro VZ. Cross-shop the Monaro catalog for additional inventory.

For your exact aftermarket offset, three options:

  • 1. Use our Year/Make/Model search to see wheels that fit your specific GTO (each listing shows its own offset).
  • 2. Browse the GTO wheel gallery for real-life builds with size, offset, and tire spec captions.
  • 3. Call or chat with our team for a free fitment consultation.

Every wheel we recommend is backed by our Fitment Guarantee. If a wheel does not fit, we pick up the wheels and refund 100 percent. No risk to you.

How We Confirm Fitment on Pontiac GTO Wheels

Element Wheels measures fitment on the platforms we sell wheels for, including the modern Pontiac GTO. For the GTO that means clearance from the wheel to the fender (a tight window on the Monaro VZ body), gap behind the wheel to the rear suspension, brake caliper clearance on the LS2 brake package (the larger of the two factory packages), hub bore confirmation at 69.5mm, lug seat depth, and turning clearance at full lock. At our fitment facility in Chandler, Arizona, the Element Wheels team measures directly on the physical platforms we support. We don't pull specs from manufacturer sheets the way most retailers do. The GTO is a small enthusiast community in the US and a wheel-fitment claim has to be right the first time. The same-chassis relationship with the Holden Monaro VZ also helps. We can validate a fitment against Australian-market GTO/Monaro data when the US sample size is thin.

Pontiac GTO Wheels and Rims FAQ

What is the bolt pattern on a Pontiac GTO?

Every modern Pontiac GTO (2004-2006) uses 5x120 with a 69.5mm hub bore. That is the GM Holden V-body chassis spec, shared with the Holden Monaro VZ (which the GTO IS, mechanically). The 5x120 pattern is also used by the later G8 and Chevrolet SS Sport Sedan, but those cars use a 66.9mm hub bore (different Holden chassis generation). Lug spec is M12x1.5. BMW 5x120 wheels (bored 72.56mm) need a hub centric ring to mount on a GTO. Tesla Model S 5x120 wheels (bored 64.1mm) do not fit because the bore is too small.

Is the modern Pontiac GTO the same as a Holden Monaro?

Yes, mechanically. The modern Pontiac GTO is the Holden Monaro VZ rebadged for the US and Canadian markets. Same GM Holden V-body chassis, same Australian-engineered architecture, same rear-drive layout. Pontiac sold the GTO for the 2004, 2005, and 2006 model years only. Wheel fitment crosses cleanly between the two cars: a wheel built for a Holden Monaro VZ will fit a Pontiac GTO in terms of bolt pattern (5x120), hub bore (69.5mm), and offset window. Cross-shop the Monaro catalog for additional inventory if a GTO wheel option is sold out.

Will Pontiac G8 wheels fit my GTO?

Bolt pattern matches (both 5x120) but the hub bore does not. The GTO uses a 69.5mm hub bore (Monaro VZ chassis). The G8 uses a 66.9mm hub bore (Commodore VE chassis, the next Holden architecture). A G8 wheel is bored smaller than the GTO hub face, so the wheel will not seat properly on the GTO hub even though the bolt circle matches. Going the other way, a GTO wheel will mount on a G8 hub with a hub centric ring (69.5-to-66.9mm), but the fender geometry and offset windows are calibrated separately between the two cars. We measure the GTO and the G8 as separate fitments.

Does the LS2 trim change the wheel I can buy?

Not at the bolt-pattern level. The 2004 GTO (LS1) and the 2005-2006 GTO (LS2) share 5x120 / 69.5mm and the same chassis. Our catalog treats the GTO as a single fitment leaf covering both engine variants and the 17 to 20 inch diameter window. The LS2 cars do run a slightly larger factory brake package than the LS1, but the difference does not change the wheel selection across the published aftermarket window. Customers building tight-inner-barrel aftermarket wheels on an LS2 GTO should confirm front brake clearance with our team before ordering.

Are Pontiac GTO wheels staggered?

Optional. The GTO is rear-wheel drive on every trim and accepts either a staggered setup or a square setup. Our aftermarket window publishes 8 to 8.5 inch in the front and 9 to 10 inch in the rear, which is the staggered option. Customers running a square setup can do so with the front width on both axles. We often recommend staggered on the LS2 cars for the visual line and to put down the V8 torque on the wider rear tire, but square setups are also common.

What size wheels and tires came on the modern Pontiac GTO from the factory?

The 2004 GTO shipped on 17 inch wheels with 245/45R17 tires square front and rear. The 2005 and 2006 GTO shipped on 17 inch wheels as standard, with 18 inch as an optional upgrade. Width was typically 8 inch on factory pairings. The factory setup was square. Staggered is an aftermarket choice on this platform.

What is the largest wheel I can fit on a Pontiac GTO?

Our measured aftermarket window tops at 20 inch diameter on every modern GTO. Above 20 inch the tire sidewall thins enough that ride quality drops sharply, and the Monaro VZ fender geometry runs out of room. Most aftermarket GTO owners land at 18 to 19 inch, with 20 inch as the upper bound for the most aggressive stance.

Do I need hub centric rings on a Pontiac GTO?

Hub centric rings only when the aftermarket wheel has a centerbore larger than 69.5mm. The most common case is BMW-bored wheels (72.56mm) mounted on a 5x120 GTO, which need a 72.56-to-69.5mm hub centric ring to seat the wheel cleanly against the hub. If your fitment needs rings, they'll be included with the order.

Get Pontiac GTO Wheels Right the First Time

We measure on the modern GTO directly and we know the Holden Monaro VZ same-chassis relationship cold, which gives the small US GTO community two-country data to work from when picking an aftermarket wheel. The aftermarket window is 17 to 20 inch diameter with an optional staggered setup. LS2 owners building tight-inner-barrel aftermarket wheels should confirm front brake clearance with us first. Find your fit and start enjoying your build sooner.
