Subaru Ascent Aftermarket Wheel Fitment
The Subaru Ascent is Subaru's 3-row mid-size crossover, launched for the 2019 model year and currently produced. It is the largest passenger vehicle Subaru sells in the United States, built to seat seven or eight on the Subaru Global Platform with symmetric all-wheel-drive standard on every trim. Element Wheels measures fitment on the Ascent across every trim in the lineup, from the base Ascent through the Onyx and Touring trims. Across the entire 2019 and up run, the Ascent carries a 5x114.3 bolt pattern with a 56.1mm hub bore. This is consistent with the rest of the modern larger Subaru lineup (the Outback since 2015, the Legacy since 2015, and the standard Impreza and Crosstrek since 2024). The Ascent has never used the 5x100 pattern that older smaller Subarus ran. Pick the Ascent generation tile below for the detailed fitment page with our measured aftermarket sizing window.
Find Your Subaru Ascent
The Ascent is a single-generation nameplate at this point (1st gen, 2019 and up). Bolt pattern (5x114.3) and hub bore (56.1mm) are constant across every trim and every model year, including the Onyx and Touring. AWD is standard on every Ascent, so square fitment is the default.
The Subaru Ascent Bolt Pattern
Every Subaru Ascent from the 2019 launch through the current model year runs 5x114.3 with a 56.1mm hub bore. There is no bolt pattern transition to worry about on this car. The Ascent uses the Subaru Global Platform shared with the larger end of Subaru's modern lineup, and the 5x114.3 pattern is consistent across every trim level, including the Onyx and Touring.
The 5x114.3 pattern is also written as 5x4.5 in imperial (114.3mm = 4.5 inches), but that imperial nickname refers ONLY to 5x114.3, not to 5x115. A wheel listed for 5x115 (Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger LX) will not bolt onto an Ascent even though the difference reads as less than a millimeter. The hub bore stays 56.1mm across every Ascent year, which is the same hub bore Subaru uses on the Outback, Forester, Legacy, and the rest of the modern lineup. The wheel lug thread on the Ascent is 12x1.25, not the 12x1.5 used on Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, and Kia. If you are reusing lug nuts from a non-Subaru car, they will not thread on. Compare across the rest of the Subaru lineup at our Subaru wheels and rims hub.
Why Ascents Run Square Fitment
Every Ascent is symmetric all-wheel-drive from the factory. Subaru uses a longitudinally-mounted boxer engine paired with a center differential and front-rear torque split. That drivetrain requires matched circumference at all four corners. A wheel and tire combo that is taller in the rear than the front (or vice versa) confuses the center diff and stresses the transfer case over miles. Square fitment is not optional on an Ascent, it is the engineering constraint. The Element catalog row for the Ascent reflects this: matched front-rear width and matched tire diameter across the entire range, no staggered option.
The brake package on the Ascent is matched front to rear across every trim. There is no front-larger-than-rear performance split, since the Ascent is a family hauler, not a performance vehicle. The matched-brake setup keeps the aftermarket diameter window wide and consistent across the trim levels. The Ascent has the widest aftermarket diameter window of any vehicle in the Subaru lineup. Our catalog supports 18 inch all the way up to 22 inch on this platform, because the Ascent's body, fenders, and wheel wells have the room to accommodate the larger diameter without the look getting awkward.
Element Wheels Measured Aftermarket Fitment, Subaru Ascent
Publishable factory and wheel specs across the Ascent run:
- Ascent, all trims (2019 and up): 5x114.3 bolt pattern, 56.1mm hub bore. Element aftermarket diameter range: 18-22 inch. Aftermarket width: 8-9 inch square. AWD constraint, matched front-rear brake. Includes base Ascent, Premium, Limited, Onyx Edition, and Touring trims.
For your exact aftermarket offset, three options:
- 1. Use our Year/Make/Model search to see wheels that fit your specific Ascent (each listing shows its own offset).
- 2. Browse the Ascent wheel gallery for real-life builds with size, offset, and tire spec captions.
- 3. Call or chat with our team for a free fitment consultation.
Every wheel we recommend is backed by our Fitment Guarantee. If a wheel does not fit, we pick up the wheels and refund 100 percent. No risk to you.
How We Confirm Fitment on Subaru Ascent Wheels
Element Wheels measures fitment on the platforms we sell wheels for, including the full Ascent run from 2019 forward. For the Ascent that means clearance from the wheel to the fender on a vehicle with 3-row body length and a wide stance, gap between the back of the wheel and the suspension, brake caliper height, hub bore confirmation (56.1mm), lug seat geometry, the 12x1.25 thread confirmation, and confirmation that the wheel and tire match circumference front to rear so the symmetric AWD system stays happy. We also account for the larger 22 inch options at the top of the aftermarket window, where the tire sidewall gets thinner and clearance to the wheel arch becomes tighter under articulation. At our fitment facility in Chandler, Arizona, the Element Wheels team measures directly on the physical platforms we support. We don't pull specs from manufacturer sheets the way most retailers do.
Subaru Ascent Wheels and Rims FAQ
What is the bolt pattern on a Subaru Ascent?
5x114.3 across every Subaru Ascent from the 2019 launch through the current model year. Hub bore is 56.1mm. The Ascent uses the same bolt pattern and hub bore as the rest of the modern larger Subaru lineup (Outback since 2015, Legacy 2015-2025, standard Impreza and Crosstrek since 2024). It has never used 5x100.
Does the Ascent Onyx use different wheels than the base Ascent?
The bolt pattern, hub bore, lug thread, and aftermarket fitment box are the same across every Ascent trim including the Onyx, Premium, Limited, and Touring. What differs between trims is the factory wheel design and finish (the Onyx ships with black-finish factory wheels by default), not the dimensional spec that drives aftermarket wheel selection. Our Ascent catalog row covers every trim with a single measured fitment box.
Will Outback or Legacy wheels fit a Subaru Ascent?
Bolt pattern crosses on the 2015 and up Outback (BS and BT generations) and on the 2015 and up Legacy (BN and BW): all of them share the 5x114.3 / 56.1mm pattern with the Ascent. That does NOT mean the wheel will look right, though. The Ascent is a larger, wider 3-row crossover, so a wheel sized for an Outback or Legacy may sit too narrow or too tucked on the Ascent's wider fender. The geometry has to match, not just the lug pattern. Use the Year/Make/Model search or call us to confirm before ordering across platforms.
Are Subaru Ascent wheels staggered?
No, and it cannot be. Every Ascent is symmetric all-wheel-drive from the factory and the drivetrain requires matched circumference at all four corners. A staggered setup (wider rear than front, or larger rear diameter than front) confuses the center diff and stresses the transfer case over miles. Square fitment with matched tire diameter is the engineering constraint on an Ascent, not a stylistic choice.
What is the largest wheel I can fit on a Subaru Ascent?
Our measured aftermarket window tops at 22 inch diameter on the Ascent. That is the widest cap of any vehicle in the Subaru lineup, and it reflects the Ascent's body size, wide fenders, and 3-row platform that can carry the larger diameter without looking awkward. Most aftermarket Ascent builds land at 20 or 22 inch since that's the visual sweet spot for a 3-row crossover this size.
What size wheels and tires came on the Ascent from the factory?
Factory Ascent wheels come in 18 inch and 20 inch sizes depending on trim. The base Ascent and Premium ship on 18 inch wheels with a 245-section all-season tire. The Limited, Onyx, and Touring trims ship on 20 inch factory wheels with a slightly different all-season tire spec. Onyx wheels have a black finish from the factory.
Does going to a 22 inch wheel affect the ride?
Yes. Going from a factory 20 inch wheel to a 22 inch wheel means a thinner tire sidewall to keep the overall rolling diameter close to factory. Thinner sidewall translates to a firmer ride, more sensitivity to road imperfections, and slightly more risk on potholes. Most Ascent customers running 22 inch wheels accept this tradeoff for the visual upgrade. If ride softness is the priority, stay at 20 inch.
Do I need hub centric rings on a Subaru Ascent?
Hub centric rings only when the aftermarket wheel has a centerbore larger than 56.1mm. If your fitment needs rings, they'll be included with the order.
