BMW 4-Series Aftermarket Wheel Fitment

The BMW 4-Series is BMW's mid-size coupe, convertible, and four-door fastback line. The 4-Series launched for the 2014 model year on the F-chassis (F32 Coupe, F33 Convertible, F36 Gran Coupe) and moved to the G-chassis in 2021 (G22 Coupe, G23 Convertible, G26 Gran Coupe). The bolt pattern changed between chassis generations. The F-chassis 4-Series (2014-2020) uses 5x120 with a 72.56mm hub bore, matching the broader legacy BMW 5x120 family. The G-chassis 4-Series (2021 and up) moved to 5x112 with a 66.56mm hub bore, in line with BMW's broader chassis transition that also took the 3 Series, the 5 Series, and the 8 Series off 5x120. The F-chassis 4-Series came in three brake packages from the factory (2-piston standard, optional 4-piston gray, and M-Sport brakes), and both RWD and X-Drive layouts. The BMW 4-Series Bolt Pattern

The 4-Series has used two different bolt patterns across its two chassis generations. The F-chassis 4-Series (F32 Coupe, F33 Convertible, F36 Gran Coupe, 2014-2020) uses 5x120 with a 72.56mm hub bore, a 5 lug count, and an M14x1.25 thread. 5x120 / 72.56mm is the legacy BMW pattern shared with the F30 3 Series, the F10 5 Series, the E63 through F13 6 Series, the E36 through F80 M3, the F32 M4, and the rest of the BMW 5x120 family. A wheel built for any of those cars will bolt to an F-chassis 4-Series in pattern and hub centering. Offset window and brake clearance still need to match the specific 4-Series brake package.

The G-chassis 4-Series (G22 Coupe, G23 Convertible, G26 Gran Coupe, 2021 and up) moved to 5x112 with a 66.56mm hub bore, in line with BMW's broader shift away from 5x120 on the 3 Series, 5 Series, 7 Series, and 8 Series at the chassis transition. A 5x120 wheel built for an F32 will NOT bolt onto a G22, and a 5x112 wheel built for a G22 will not bolt onto an F32. Bolt pattern changes at the 2020 to 2021 transition on the 4-Series, so model year alone determines which pattern your car runs. Why F-Chassis Brake Package and Drivetrain Change the Wheel Window

The F-chassis 4-Series came in three brake packages from the factory. The 2-piston standard brakes are on the base trims (428i, 430i, and most 435i / 440i builds). The 4-piston gray brakes are an optional upgrade on the same trims, identifiable by the larger gray caliper face visible behind the wheel spokes. The M-Sport brakes are a further upgrade, typically painted blue, and they push the minimum aftermarket diameter from 18 inch to 19 inch because the larger M-Sport caliper does not clear smaller wheels. Element measures all three brake packages directly. Each gets its own offset window because the caliper face sits at a different depth behind the wheel face.

The F-chassis 4-Series also came in RWD and X-Drive (BMW's all wheel drive system) layouts. Both drivetrains share the same aftermarket diameter and width windows. Staggered fitment is optional on every F-chassis 4-Series and is the typical aftermarket choice on the Coupe and Gran Coupe. The X-Drive trims also accept staggered within the published windows. BMW's X-Drive system tolerates the modest stagger we recommend on the 4-Series, unlike the M xDrive system on the F90 M5 which is square-only. Front larger than rear brakes is the normal configuration on a performance coupe of this class, so the brake package difference is expected and not a quirk.

How We Confirm Fitment on BMW 4-Series Wheels

Element Wheels measures fitment on the 4-Series across the F-chassis brake and drivetrain combinations. For the 4-Series that means clearance from the wheel to the fender, gap between the back of the wheel and the suspension, brake caliper height for each of the three brake packages, hub bore confirmation at 72.56mm on the F-chassis, lug stud height, and turning clearance with the wheel installed. At our fitment facility in Chandler, Arizona, the Element Wheels team measures directly on the physical platforms we support. We don't pull specs from manufacturer sheets the way most retailers do.

The F-chassis 4-Series has the most fitment combinations of any non-M BMW coupe in our catalog: three brake packages times two drivetrains. We track every combination separately.
