BMW 5 Series Aftermarket Wheel Fitment

The BMW 5 Series is BMW's executive sedan and one of the highest-volume chassis-evolution platforms in our catalog. Element Wheels measures the 5 Series across six modern generations: E34 (1989-1996), E39 (1997-2003), E60 (2004-2010), F10 (2011-2017), G30 (2017-2023), and the current G60 (2024 and up). The platform also runs three bolt patterns. The E34 through F10 era used 5x120. The G30 moved to 5x112 in 2017. The brand-new G90 M5 (2025 and up) jumped to 5x132 for the high-output M5 chassis. Wheels do not cross those transitions. Lug count alone doesn't tell you which pattern, because all three are 5-lug; the centerline measurement does. Pick your generation below for the fitment specs, and confirm your bolt pattern before ordering.

Find Your BMW 5 Series Generation

Pick your chassis to see wheels and rims that fit your specific 5 Series. Bolt pattern shifts twice across the lineup: 5x120 through F10 (2017 cutoff), 5x112 from G30 forward, and 5x132 on the G90 / G99 M5. Centerbore also shifts. Each chassis carries its own offset window and brake clearance.

The BMW 5 Series Bolt Pattern And Its Two Transitions

The 5 Series uses three bolt patterns across the lineup, separated by two transition points. Knowing which pattern your car uses is the first check before ordering wheels.

  • 5x120 on the E34 (1989-1996), E39 (1997-2003), E60 (2004-2010), F10 / F11 (2011-2017), and F07 GT (2010-2016). Centerbore is 72.56mm on E34, E60, F10, and F07; the E39 ran a larger 74.1mm centerbore. Includes the E39 M5 (2001-2003), E60 M5 (2006-2010), and F10 M5 (2013-2017, both Steel and Carbon Ceramic brake variants).
  • 5x112 on the G30 (2017-2023), G60 (2024 and up), and the F90 M5 (2018-2023, both Steel and Carbon Ceramic). Centerbore is 66.56mm. This transition matches the same 5x120-to-5x112 change BMW made on the 3 Series at the F30-to-G20 cutoff.
  • 5x132 on the G90 / G99 M5 (2025 and up, both Steel and Carbon Ceramic). Centerbore stays 66.56mm. This is a new high-output M5 chassis bolt pattern that BMW introduced for the V8 hybrid M5 powertrain, and it does NOT cross to the G60 5 Series, the F90 M5, or any earlier 5 Series.

Wheels do not cross between any of these three patterns. A 5x120 F10 wheel will not bolt onto a 5x112 G30 hub, and a 5x112 F90 M5 wheel will not bolt onto a 5x132 G90 M5 hub. This is a major cross-shop trap on the 5 Series, especially when buying used wheels. Always confirm the bolt pattern matches your exact chassis. Compare across the rest of the BMW lineup at our BMW wheels and rims hub.

Why 5 Series Trim And Brake Package Determine Wheel Fit

The 5 Series is sold across a wide spread of brake packages. Base brakes on the 528, 530i, and 540i. M-Sport brakes optional on the 530i and 540i. M550i X-Drive on the G30. F10 / F11 X-Drive on the all-wheel-drive variants. And the M5, which itself splits across Steel brake and Carbon Ceramic brake variants on the F10, F90, and G90 chassis. Each brake size changes the clearance behind the wheel face and the offset window we can recommend. The X-Drive variants also run a slightly different front-axle geometry than the rear-wheel-drive cars, which tightens the front wheel offset window. The M5 ships must-staggered front and rear from the factory (wider rear), where the non-M trims allow square fitment as standard. We measure each combination of generation, drivetrain, and brake package as its own catalog row.

How We Confirm Fitment on BMW 5 Series Wheels

Element Wheels measures fitment on the platforms we sell wheels for, including every 5 Series generation back to the E34 and every M5 variant from the E39 forward. For the 5 Series that means clearance from the wheel to the fender, gap between the back of the wheel and the suspension, caliper height for Base, M-Sport, M550i, and the Steel-versus-Carbon-Ceramic brake variants on the M5, hub bore confirmation across the 74.1mm E39, the 72.56mm 5x120 era, and the 66.56mm 5x112 and 5x132 era, lug bolt seat depth, and the staggered front-to-rear measurement on M5 builds. At our fitment facility in Chandler, Arizona, the Element Wheels team measures directly on the physical platforms we support. We don't pull specs from manufacturer sheets the way most retailers do.

Every wheel we recommend is backed by our Fitment Guarantee. If a wheel does not fit, we pick up the wheels and refund 100 percent. No risk to you.

BMW 5 Series Wheels and Rims FAQ

What is the bolt pattern on a BMW 5 Series?

It depends on the generation. The E34 (1989-1996), E39 (1997-2003), E60 (2004-2010), and F10 / F11 (2011-2017) all use 5x120. The G30 (2017-2023) and G60 (2024 and up) moved to 5x112. The brand-new G90 / G99 M5 (2025 and up) uses 5x132. Three bolt patterns across the lineup, two transition points (5x120 to 5x112 at G30 in 2017, and 5x112 to 5x132 on the G90 M5 in 2025). Confirm your chassis before ordering.

F10 vs G30 5 Series: what changes for wheels?

The bolt pattern changes. The F10 (2011-2017) uses 5x120 with a 72.56mm hub bore. The G30 (2017-2023) uses 5x112 with a 66.56mm hub bore. Wheels do not cross between F10 and G30. This is the same 5x120-to-5x112 transition BMW made on the 3 Series at the F30-to-G20 cutoff. Customers cross-shopping wheels off an F10 onto a G30 (or vice versa) get caught here often. If a seller lists a wheel as "fits BMW 5 Series" without specifying chassis, ask which bolt pattern it is.

What is the bolt pattern on the G90 M5?

The G90 / G99 M5 (2025 and up) uses 5x132 with a 66.56mm hub bore on both Steel brake and Carbon Ceramic brake variants. This is a new bolt pattern for the M5 platform. Importantly, the G90 M5 5x132 does NOT cross to the G60 5 Series (which is 5x112), and does NOT cross to the previous F90 M5 (also 5x112). Wheels off any previous BMW will not bolt to the G90 M5 hub. Confirm 5x132 before ordering for a G90 M5.

Are BMW M5 wheels staggered?

Yes. Every M5 from the F10 forward (F10, F90, G90) is must-staggered front and rear, with a wider rear wheel and tire than front. The F10 and F90 M5 run roughly 9 to 10 inch front and 10 to 11 inch rear. The G90 M5 widens to 10 to 10.5 inch front and 10.5 to 11 inch rear on a 20 to 23 inch wheel. Earlier M5s (E39, E60) were also staggered. Non-M 5 Series trims (528, 530i, 540i, 550i, M550i) allow square fitment as standard, though staggered is an option.

What is the largest wheel I can fit on a BMW 5 Series?

It depends on the chassis. The E34 and E39 top at 20 inch. The E60 and F10 / F11 take 22 inch (F10 535/550 and F07 GT) at the high end. The G30 and G60 take 21 inch. The F90 M5 also tops at 21 inch. The brand-new G90 M5 opens the window the furthest in 5 Series history, taking up to 23 inch on the Steel or Carbon Ceramic brake variants. 19 to 20 inch is the most common aftermarket choice across the 530i / 540i trims, and 20 to 21 inch is the most common M5 choice.

Do I need spacers or hub centric rings on a 5 Series?

The wheel and offset combinations we recommend fit the 5 Series as measured, no spacer required. Hub centric rings depend on your chassis. The E39 needs rings if the aftermarket wheel centerbore is larger than 74.1mm. The other 5x120 generations (E34, E60, F10, F11, F07) need rings if the wheel is larger than 72.56mm. The 5x112 G30 / G60 / F90 M5 and the 5x132 G90 M5 need rings if the wheel is larger than 66.56mm.

What is the factory OEM offset and torque spec on a BMW 5 Series?

The factory 5 Series wheel ships with a positive offset in the mid 20s to mid 40s mm range across the modern generations, varying by trim and brake package. The M5 runs more conservative front offsets to clear the larger brake package. BMW lug bolt torque on the 5 Series is approximately 140 Nm (about 103 ft-lbs) on most years; always confirm against your owner manual for your exact year and chassis. Re-torque after 50 to 100 miles when installing new wheels. For your specific aftermarket offset, search wheels by your year and trim (each listing publishes its own offset), browse the wheel gallery, or contact our team for a free fitment consultation.

How do I find the right wheels for my specific BMW 5 Series?

Confirm your chassis (E34, E39, E60, F10/F11, F07 GT, G30, G60, or M5 variant), drivetrain (RWD or X-Drive), and brake package (Base, M-Sport, M550i, Steel M5, or Carbon Ceramic M5). The bolt pattern depends on the chassis (5x120 through F10, 5x112 from G30 forward, 5x132 on G90 M5). Use our Year/Make/Model search to see wheels that fit your specific 5 Series (each listing publishes its own offset) and browse the wheel gallery for real-life builds. If you have an M5 or are not sure which bolt pattern your chassis uses, contact our team for a free fitment consultation before ordering. Every wheel we recommend is backed by the Fitment Guarantee.
