BMW M2 Aftermarket Wheel Fitment

The BMW M2 is the smallest car in the M lineup, a rear wheel drive two-door coupe built on the BMW 2-Series platform. Element Wheels measures the M2 across two generations: the F87 (2015-2021) and the current G87 (2023 and up). BMW skipped the 2022 model year between generations, so any M2 from model year 2022 does not exist. The bolt pattern transition is the spec to get right on this car. The F87 runs 5x120 with a 72.56mm hub bore, in line with the legacy 5x120 BMW family that includes the F22 2-Series base, the F30 3 Series, and every M3 from E36 through F80. The G87 (2023 and up) moves to 5x112 with a 66.56mm hub bore, matching BMW's broader chassis transition that also took the G20 3 Series, the G80 M3, and the G82 M4 off 5x120. The G87 also ships must-staggered from the factory (wider rear wheel and tire than front, mandatory) and splits into Steel Brake and Carbon Ceramic Brake variants we track as separate fitments. M2 Competition and M2 CS top trims of the F87 use the F87 wheel architecture. Pick your generation below and the fitment specs follow.

Find Your BMW M2 Generation

Pick your chassis to see wheels and rims that fit your specific M2. Bolt pattern is 5x120 / 72.56mm on the F87 (2015-2021). The G87 (2023 and up) moves to 5x112 / 66.56mm with must-staggered factory fitment and splits into Steel Brake and Carbon Ceramic Brake variants. Looking for the standard 2-Series? Visit the BMW 2-Series wheels and rims hub.

The BMW M2 Bolt Pattern

The M2 has run two bolt patterns across two generations. The F87 (2015-2021) ran 5x120 with a 72.56mm hub bore and M14x1.25 lug bolts. The G87 (2023 and up) moved to 5x112 with a 66.56mm hub bore and the same M14x1.25 lug bolts. The 2021 to 2023 break is the single most important spec to get right when cross-shopping wheels for the M2. Aftermarket listings for "BMW M2" without a year filter often default to the legacy 5x120 pattern. A 5x120 wheel will NOT bolt onto a G87 and a 5x112 wheel will NOT bolt onto an F87. There is no M2 from the 2022 model year because BMW skipped the year between the F87 and G87 generations.

The F87 M2 (including M2 Competition and M2 CS top trims) shares its 5x120 / 72.56mm hub spec with the F22 2-Series base coupe, the F30 3 Series, the E92 M3, the F80 M3, and the rest of the legacy BMW 5x120 family. A wheel built for one of those cars will bolt to an F87 in pattern and centerbore. The G87 M2 shares its 5x112 / 66.56mm hub spec with the G42 2-Series base coupe, the G20 3 Series, the G80 M3, and the G82 M4. Offset window and brake clearance still need to match the specific M2 brake package even when the bolt math crosses. Compare against the rest of the BMW lineup at our BMW wheels and rims hub.

Why F87 and G87 Fitments Are Not Interchangeable

Bolt pattern and centerbore both change between the F87 and G87. The F87 runs 5x120 / 72.56mm. The G87 runs 5x112 / 66.56mm. The G87 also runs a higher maximum diameter (up to 21 inch in our measured window versus 20 inch on the F87) and ships must-staggered from the factory. Must-staggered means the rear wheel is mandatory wider than the front, not optional. The G87 factory wheel is a 9.5-10 inch front paired with a 10.5-11.5 inch rear, and the chassis is engineered around that asymmetric setup. A square build is not appropriate on a G87. The F87 ships with optional staggered fitment, so owners can run square (same width front and rear) or staggered depending on the build preference. F87 M2 Competition and M2 CS trims typically ran the wider option from the factory.

The G87 M2 splits into Steel Brake and Carbon Ceramic Brake variants. Element Wheels measures both variants as separate fitments because the carbon ceramic rotor mounting hat takes more clearance behind the wheel face than the steel rotor. The published diameter and width window is the same on both, but a wheel face that clears a Steel-braked G87 may not clear the Carbon Ceramic variant. The Carbon Ceramic G87 also runs a front brake larger than the rear, which is standard on a performance coupe of this caliber. If you have a G87 M2 with Carbon Ceramic, confirm wheel face clearance before ordering. Compare against the sibling cars at our BMW M3 hub and BMW M4 hub, both of which run the same 5x112 architecture on the G-chassis.

Element Wheels Measured Aftermarket Fitment, BMW M2

Publishable factory and wheel specs across the M2 generations:

  • F87 M2 (2015-2021): 5x120 bolt pattern, 72.56mm hub bore, M14x1.25 lug bolts. Element aftermarket diameter range: 19 to 20 inch. Aftermarket width range: 8 to 9 inch front, 9 to 10.5 inch rear. Optional staggered. RWD. Includes M2 Competition and M2 CS top trims.
  • G87 M2 Steel Brakes (2023 and up): 5x112 bolt pattern, 66.56mm hub bore, M14x1.25 lug bolts. Element aftermarket diameter range: 19 to 21 inch. Aftermarket width range: 9.5 to 10 inch front, 10.5 to 11.5 inch rear. Must-staggered. RWD.
  • G87 M2 Carbon Ceramic Brakes (2023 and up): 5x112 bolt pattern, 66.56mm hub bore, M14x1.25 lug bolts. Same diameter and width window as the Steel variant (19 to 21 inch diameter, 9.5 to 10 inch front, 10.5 to 11.5 inch rear), but tighter wheel face clearance behind the carbon ceramic rotor hat. Front brake larger than rear. Must-staggered. RWD.

Offset windows are tightly controlled for the M2 brake clearance, especially on the G87 Carbon Ceramic variant. For your exact aftermarket offset, three options:

  • 1. Use our Year/Make/Model search to see wheels that fit your specific M2 (each listing shows its own offset).
  • 2. Browse the M2 wheel gallery for real-life builds with size, offset, and tire spec captions.
  • 3. Call or chat with our team for a free fitment consultation.

Every wheel we recommend is backed by our Fitment Guarantee. If a wheel does not fit, we pick up the wheels and refund 100 percent. No risk to you.

How We Confirm Fitment on BMW M2 Wheels

Element Wheels measures fitment on the platforms we sell wheels for, including both M2 generations. For the M2 that means clearance from the wheel to the fender, gap between the back of the wheel and the suspension, front and rear brake caliper height (Steel and Carbon Ceramic separately on the G87), hub bore confirmation at 72.56mm or 66.56mm depending on chassis, lug stud height for M14x1.25 bolts, and the asymmetric front-to-rear wheel offset required on the must-staggered G87. At our fitment facility in Chandler, Arizona, the Element Wheels team measures directly on the physical platforms we support. We don't pull specs from manufacturer sheets the way most retailers do.

BMW M2 Wheels and Rims FAQ

What is the bolt pattern on a BMW M2?

It depends on the generation. The F87 M2 (2015-2021) runs 5x120 with a 72.56mm hub bore and M14x1.25 lug bolts. The G87 M2 (2023 and up) runs 5x112 with a 66.56mm hub bore and the same M14x1.25 lug bolts. A 5x120 wheel will not bolt onto a G87 and a 5x112 wheel will not bolt onto an F87. The 2021 to 2023 break is the single most important spec to get right when cross-shopping M2 wheels.

What about the 2022 BMW M2?

There isn't one. BMW skipped the 2022 model year between the F87 (which ended after 2021) and the G87 (which started for 2023). If your title says 2022, double-check the registration: it's almost certainly a 2021 F87 or a 2023 G87. Confirm against the door jamb VIN sticker for the exact build year.

F87 vs G87: what changes for wheels?

Bolt pattern and centerbore both change. The F87 runs 5x120 / 72.56mm. The G87 runs 5x112 / 66.56mm. The G87 also accepts up to 21 inch diameter where the F87 tops out at 20 inch. The G87 ships must-staggered (mandatory wider rear), while the F87 ships with optional staggered. Each chassis needs its own wheel set.

What changes between G87 Steel and Carbon Ceramic Brakes?

The published diameter and width window is the same on both. What changes is the wheel face clearance. The Carbon Ceramic rotor mounting hat takes more clearance behind the wheel face than the steel rotor. A wheel face that clears a Steel-braked G87 may not clear the Carbon Ceramic version. Element measures both as separate fitments. If you are on a G87 M2 with Carbon Ceramic, confirm wheel face clearance before ordering.

Are M2 wheels staggered?

The G87 (2023 and up) ships must-staggered from the factory, with a mandatory wider and deeper rear wheel than front. Square fitments are not appropriate on the G87 because the chassis is engineered around the asymmetric setup. The F87 (2015-2021) ships with optional staggered fitment, so owners can run square or staggered. F87 M2 Competition and M2 CS top trims typically ran the wider rear option from the factory.

What is the largest wheel I can fit on an M2?

Our measured window tops at 20 inch on the F87 and 21 inch on the G87. Above the measured window, tire sidewall thins enough that ride quality drops sharply and the wheel sits at risk of curb damage. Most G87 customers stop at 20 inch or pick a 21 inch with a tire spec that protects the lip.

Do I need hub centric rings on an M2?

Hub centric rings only when the aftermarket wheel has a centerbore larger than your factory hub. That is 72.56mm on the F87 and 66.56mm on the G87. If your fitment needs rings, they'll be included with the order.

How do I find the right wheels for my specific BMW M2?

Confirm your chassis (F87 for 2015-2021, G87 for 2023 and up). On the G87, confirm Steel Brakes or Carbon Ceramic Brakes. Bolt pattern is 5x120 / 72.56mm on the F87 and 5x112 / 66.56mm on the G87, with M14x1.25 lug bolts on both. Use our Year/Make/Model search to see wheels that fit your specific M2 and browse the wheel gallery for real-life builds. If you have a standard 2-Series instead of an M2, use the dedicated 2-Series hub. Every wheel we recommend is backed by the Fitment Guarantee.
