BMW M4 Aftermarket Wheel Fitment
The BMW M4 has run since 2015 across two generations and one bolt-pattern transition. The F82 coupe and F83 convertible (2015-2020) ran 5x120 with a 72.56mm hub bore. The G82 (2021 and up) moved to 5x112 with a 66.56mm hub bore. That 2021 break is the same transition the M3 went through and it is the single most important spec to get right when cross-shopping wheels between an F82/F83 and a G82. Both generations ship factory must-staggered (wider rear than front), and the G82 offers Steel and Carbon Ceramic brake packages that each carry their own clearance window. Pick your generation below and the fitment specs follow.
Find Your BMW M4 Generation
Pick your chassis to see wheels and rims that fit your specific M4. The F82/F83 (2015-2020) runs 5x120 with a 72.56mm hub bore. The G82 (2021 and up) moved to 5x112 with a 66.56mm hub bore. The G82 is also the only M4 we track with both Steel Brakes and Carbon Ceramic Brakes as separate fitments.
The BMW M4 Bolt Pattern
The M4 has run two bolt patterns over its short history. From 2015 through 2020 the F82 coupe and F83 convertible ran 5x120 with a 72.56mm hub bore, the same pattern the F30 3 Series and F80 M3 of the same era used. From 2021 forward the G82 moved to 5x112 with a 66.56mm hub bore, matching the G20 3 Series and G80 M3. The 2021 break is the single most important spec to get right when buying wheels for a G82, because aftermarket wheels listed for "BMW M4" without a year filter will often default to the legacy 5x120 pattern.
A 5x120 wheel will NOT bolt onto a G82, and a 5x112 wheel will NOT bolt onto an F82 or F83. The hub bore also drops by 6mm across the transition, so even hub-centric rings do not bridge the older car to the new one.
Why the Generation and Brake Package Matter
Both M4 generations ship must-staggered from the factory, with a wider and deeper rear wheel than front. The F82/F83 carries a wider aftermarket offset window than the G82 because the F82/F83 fender geometry allows more room behind the wheel face. The G82 tightens the offset window noticeably, especially on the Carbon Ceramic Brake variant where the rotor mounting hat takes more clearance behind the wheel face. The G82 also bumps the maximum diameter from 20 inch on the F82/F83 to 21 inch. The G82 with Carbon Ceramic Brakes carries the tightest wheel-face clearance window of any M4 we sell. We measure all three variants separately.
Element Wheels Measured Aftermarket Fitment, BMW M4
- F82 / F83 (2015-2020), Steel Brakes: 5x120 bolt pattern, 72.56mm hub bore, M14x1.25 lug bolts. Element aftermarket diameter range: 19 to 20 inch. Aftermarket width range: 8 to 10 inch front, 9.5 to 11 inch rear. Must-staggered.
- G82 (2021 and up), Steel Brakes: 5x112 bolt pattern, 66.56mm hub bore, M14x1.25 lug bolts. Element aftermarket diameter range: 19 to 21 inch. Aftermarket width range: 9.5 to 10 inch front, 10.5 to 11 inch rear. Must-staggered.
- G82 (2021 and up), Carbon Ceramic Brakes: 5x112 bolt pattern, 66.56mm hub bore, M14x1.25 lug bolts. Same diameter and width window as Steel. Tightest wheel-face clearance window in the lineup because of the larger ceramic rotor hat.
Offset windows are tightly controlled on the M4 because of the must-staggered geometry and the brake clearance behind the wheel face. For your exact aftermarket offset, three options:
- 1. Use our Year/Make/Model search to see wheels that fit your specific M4 (each listing shows its own offset).
- 2. Browse the M4 wheel gallery for real-life builds with size, offset, and tire spec captions.
- 3. Call or chat with our team for a free fitment consultation.
If you are on a G82 with Carbon Ceramic, confirm wheel face clearance before ordering. Our team does that on every wheel we recommend. Compare against the rest of the BMW lineup at our BMW wheels and rims hub.
How We Confirm Fitment on BMW M4 Wheels
Element Wheels measures fitment on the platforms we sell wheels for, including every M4 chassis. For the M4 that means clearance from the wheel to the fender, gap between the back of the wheel and the suspension, brake caliper height (Steel or Carbon Ceramic on the G82), hub bore confirmation, lug stud height, and turning clearance. At our fitment facility in Chandler, Arizona, the Element Wheels team measures directly on the physical platforms we support. We don't pull specs from manufacturer sheets the way most retailers do.
That measurement work is what produced the chassis-specific and brake-specific fitment windows on this page. It is also why every wheel we recommend is backed by our Fitment Guarantee. If a wheel does not fit, we pick up the wheels and refund 100 percent. No risk to you.
BMW M4 Wheels and Rims FAQ
What is the bolt pattern on a BMW M4?
It depends on the generation. The F82 coupe and F83 convertible (2015-2020) ran 5x120 with a 72.56mm hub bore. The G82 (2021 and up) moved to 5x112 with a 66.56mm hub bore. A 5x120 wheel does not bolt onto a G82 and a 5x112 wheel does not bolt onto an F82 or F83.
F82 vs G82: what changes for wheels?
Bolt pattern and centerbore both change. The F82 runs 5x120 with a 72.56mm hub. The G82 runs 5x112 with a 66.56mm hub. The G82 also runs a tighter front offset window than the F82 and accepts up to 21 inch diameter where the F82 tops out at 20 inch. Each chassis needs its own wheel set.
What changes between G82 Steel and Carbon Ceramic Brakes?
The published offset and width window is the same on both. What changes is the wheel face clearance. The Carbon Ceramic rotor mounting hat takes more clearance behind the wheel face than the Steel rotor. A wheel face that clears a Steel-braked G82 may not clear the Carbon Ceramic version. We measure both. If you are on a G82 with Carbon Ceramic, confirm wheel face clearance before ordering.
Are M4 wheels staggered?
Yes. Both the F82/F83 (2015-2020) and the G82 (2021 and up) ship must-staggered from the factory, with a wider and deeper rear wheel than front. Square fitments are not recommended on either generation because the rear axle carries the power and the OEM tire spec assumes the staggered setup.
What is the largest wheel I can fit on an M4?
Our measured window tops at 20 inch on the F82/F83 and 21 inch on the G82. Above the measured window, tire sidewall thins enough that ride quality drops sharply and the wheel sits at risk of curb damage. Most G82 customers stop at 20 inch or pick a 21 inch with a tire spec that protects the lip.
Do I need hub centric rings on an M4?
Hub centric rings only when the aftermarket wheel has a centerbore larger than your factory hub (72.56mm on F82/F83, 66.56mm on G82). If your fitment needs rings, they'll be included with the order.
What is the OEM offset and torque spec on a BMW M4?
Factory OEM offsets vary by year and trim across the F82/F83 and the G82. Element treats specific aftermarket offset windows as moat data, so we don't publish the exact range here. To find an aftermarket offset that fits your exact M4, use our Year/Make/Model search filtered to your chassis, browse the wheel gallery for real builds, or call our team for a free fitment consultation. BMW lug bolt torque on M4 is 140 Nm (about 103 ft-lbs). Always confirm against your owner manual and re-torque after 50 to 100 miles when installing new wheels. Use the BMW-specified bolt seat (cone or ball) for your wheel.
How do I find wheels for my specific BMW M4?
Pick your chassis above. Each chassis page covers the years we have measured with bolt pattern, offset window, brake package, and fitment specifics. If you are not sure whether you have an F82, F83, or G82, or whether your G82 has Steel or Carbon Ceramic Brakes, our team can identify your exact configuration from your VIN.
