BMW M5 Aftermarket Wheel Fitment

The BMW M5 is BMW's high-performance super sedan, in continuous production since the late 1980s and currently in its sixth generation. Element Wheels measures the M5 across five generations: the E39 (2000-2003), the E60 (2006-2010), the F10 (2013-2017), the F90 (2018-2023), and the current G90/G99 (2025 and up). The bolt pattern has changed twice in the modern M5 history. The E39, E60, and F10 all used 5x120, the F90 moved to 5x112, and the current G90/G99 moved again to 5x132. Centerbore moved from 74.1mm on the E39 to 72.56mm on the E60 and F10 to 66.56mm on the F90, G90, and G99. The F10 was the first M5 to offer M Carbon Ceramic brakes as a factory option, and that option carried through to the F90 and the G90/G99. Front brakes run larger than rear brakes across every M5 generation; that is normal for a performance car this powerful and does not need any compensation in wheel choice. Hub bore moved alongside the bolt pattern. M Carbon Ceramic brakes are an optional factory upgrade on the F10, F90, and G90/G99.

The BMW M5 Bolt Pattern Has Changed Twice

The M5 has carried three different bolt patterns across its modern generations. The E39 (2000-2003), E60 (2006-2010), and F10 (2013-2017) all use 5x120. Hub bore on the E39 is 74.1mm; on the E60 and F10 it dropped to 72.56mm. The F90 M5 (2018-2023) moved the entire chassis to 5x112 with a 66.56mm hub bore, matching the broader BMW 5 Series shift away from 5x120. The current G90/G99 M5 (2025 and up) moved again to 5x132 with a 66.56mm hub bore, a wider pattern unique to the new M5 within the BMW lineup. None of the three patterns cross. A 5x120 wheel from an F10 M5 does not bolt onto a F90 M5, and a 5x112 wheel from an F90 does not bolt onto a G90/G99.

5x120 is the legacy BMW M pattern, shared with the E60/F10 M5's contemporary M3 (E36 through F80), the E63/E64 and F12/F13 M6, and the rest of the BMW 5x120 family. A 5x120 wheel built for an F10 M5 will bolt to an E60 M5 in pattern (hub bore differs slightly between the E39 at 74.1 and the E60/F10 at 72.56, so a centering ring may be required when going from 74.1 down to 72.56). Why M5 Brake Package and Generation Matter

The M5 brake setup runs front-larger-than-rear across every generation. That is normal for a performance sedan at the M5's power level, where the front axle does most of the braking work. The front-bias does not require any special accommodation in aftermarket wheel choice. What does change wheel fitment is the M Carbon Ceramic brake option, which BMW first offered on the F10, then on the F90, and now on the G90/G99. The carbon ceramic rotor mounting hat takes more clearance behind the wheel face than the standard steel brake on each of those cars. A wheel face that clears a steel-braked F10, F90, or G90/G99 may not clear the carbon ceramic version. We measure both versions separately on each chassis.

The F90 introduced a second factor: M xDrive all wheel drive, which became standard on the F90 M5 and continues on the G90/G99. M xDrive cars do not accept staggered fitment because the AWD system needs matched wheel and tire sizes on every corner. The earlier rear wheel drive M5 generations (E39, E60, F10) all run staggered as the typical aftermarket choice. If you are on an F90 or G90/G99, the wheels must be square. We measure all of this directly.
