BMW M6 Aftermarket Wheel Fitment

The BMW M6 ran from 2006 through 2018 across two generations before BMW retired the nameplate. Element Wheels measures the M6 across both: the E63/E64 (2006-2011, coupe and convertible) and the F06/F12/F13 (2012-2018, convertible coupe and Gran Coupe). Both generations ran 5x120 with a 72.56mm hub bore, the same pattern as the E60/F10 M5 and the rest of BMW's legacy 5x120 family. The F06/F12/F13 was also the first M6 to offer a factory carbon ceramic brake package on top of the standard steel brake setup. The M6 was replaced functionally by the M8 starting in 2020, which moved to the 5x112 / 66.56mm CB pattern. Pick your generation below for the fitment specs.

Find Your BMW M6 Generation

Pick your chassis to see wheels and rims that fit your specific M6. Bolt pattern stays 5x120 / 72.56mm CB across both generations. What changes is the diameter and width window, the offset window we recommend, and the brake clearance on F06/F12/F13 cars that came with the optional carbon ceramic brake package.

The BMW M6 Bolt Pattern

Every M6 ever built uses 5x120 with a 72.56mm hub bore. That covers the E63/E64 (2006-2011) and the F06/F12/F13 (2012-2018). 5x120 with the 72.56mm hub is one of the most common BMW patterns and matches a long list of legacy BMW M and non-M cars including the E60/F10 M5, the E36 through F80 M3, the E46 M3, and the E39 5 Series. A wheel that bolts to a 5x120 / 72.56 BMW will bolt to an M6 in stud pattern and hub centering. The next questions are offset, width, and brake clearance, which the M6 is more demanding about than the smaller BMWs.

Worth knowing: BMW's current M cars (G80 M3, F92 M8, G90 M5) all moved off 5x120. The current M8 (2020 and up), which replaced the M6 in the lineup, uses 5x112 with a 66.56mm hub bore. If you are stepping up from an M6 to a current M8, none of your old wheels bolt across.

Why the M6 Generation and Brake Package Matter

The E63/E64 (2006-2011) carries its own offset window. The F06/F12/F13 (2012-2018) carries a different window with a wider rear wheel option and the addition of a factory carbon ceramic brake package on some cars. The F06/F12/F13 carbon ceramic option does not push the brake outward much, but the rotor hat geometry takes more clearance behind the wheel face than the standard steel brake. Wheels that fit a steel-braked F06/F12/F13 may not clear the carbon ceramic version. We measure both. Both generations accept staggered as the typical aftermarket choice; the F06/F12/F13 staggered fitment runs notably wider in the rear than the E63/E64.

Element Wheels measured aftermarket fitment, BMW M6

Publishable factory and wheel specs across the M6 generations:

  • E63 / E64 M6 (2006-2011): 5x120 bolt pattern, 72.56mm hub bore. Element aftermarket diameter range: 19 to 22 inch. Aftermarket width range: 8 to 9.5 inch front, 9 to 10.5 inch rear. Optional staggered.
  • F12 / F13 M6 (2012-2018): 5x120 bolt pattern, 72.56mm hub bore. Element aftermarket diameter range: 20 to 22 inch. Aftermarket width range: 9 to 10 inch front, 10 to 12 inch rear. Optional staggered; factory carbon ceramic brake package available, requires confirmed wheel-face clearance.

For your exact aftermarket offset, three options:

  • 1. Use our Year/Make/Model search to see wheels that fit your specific M6 (each listing shows its own offset).
  • 2. Browse the M6 wheel gallery for real-life builds with size, offset, and tire spec captions.
  • 3. Call or chat with our team for a free fitment consultation.

The F06/F12/F13 with carbon ceramic brakes carries the tightest clearance window of any M6 we sell. The ceramic option does not push the brake outward much, but the rotor hat geometry takes more clearance behind the wheel face. We measure both versions separately. If you are on a F06/F12/F13 with carbon ceramic, confirm wheel face clearance before ordering. Our team does that on every wheel we recommend. Compare against the rest of the BMW lineup at our BMW wheels and rims hub.

How We Confirm Fitment on BMW M6 Wheels

Element Wheels measures fitment on the platforms we sell wheels for, including every M6 chassis. For the M6 that means clearance from the wheel to the fender, gap between the back of the wheel and the suspension, brake caliper height (steel or carbon ceramic on the F06/F12/F13), hub bore confirmation, lug stud height, and turning clearance. At our fitment facility in Chandler, Arizona, the Element Wheels team measures directly on the physical platforms we support. We don't pull specs from manufacturer sheets the way most retailers do.

That measurement work is what produced the chassis-specific and brake-specific fitment windows on this page. It is also why every wheel we recommend is backed by our Fitment Guarantee. If a wheel does not fit, we pick up the wheels and refund 100 percent. No risk to you.

BMW M6 Wheels and Rims FAQ

What is the bolt pattern on a BMW M6?

Every M6 ever built uses 5x120 with a 72.56mm hub bore. That covers the E63/E64 (2006-2011) and the F06/F12/F13 (2012-2018). The M6 nameplate ended in 2018 and was succeeded functionally by the M8, which moved to 5x112 with a 66.56mm hub bore.

E63/E64 vs F06/F12/F13: what changes for wheels?

Bolt pattern and centerbore stay the same (5x120 / 72.56mm) across both generations. The diameter and width window changes: the E63/E64 takes 19 to 22 inch with 8 to 9.5 front and 9 to 10.5 rear, the F06/F12/F13 takes 20 to 22 inch with 9 to 10 front and 10 to 12 rear. The F06/F12/F13 also adds a factory carbon ceramic brake package option that the E63/E64 did not have, which tightens the wheel-face clearance window on cars equipped with it.

What changes between F06/F12/F13 steel and carbon ceramic brakes?

The published diameter and width window is the same on both. What changes is the wheel face clearance. The carbon ceramic rotor mounting hat takes more clearance behind the wheel face than the steel rotor. A wheel face that clears a steel-braked F06/F12/F13 may not clear the carbon ceramic version. We measure both. If you are on an F06/F12/F13 with carbon ceramic, confirm wheel face clearance before ordering.

Are M6 wheels staggered?

Staggered is optional on both generations and is the typical aftermarket choice for the M6. The F06/F12/F13 staggered fitment runs notably wider in the rear (up to 12 inch) than the E63/E64 (up to 10.5 inch rear). Square fitments are still possible on both, but most M6 buyers run staggered to match the OEM rear-wheel width.

What is the largest wheel I can fit on an M6?

Our measured aftermarket window tops at 22 inch on both M6 generations. Above 22 inch, tire sidewall thins enough that ride quality drops sharply and the wheel sits at risk of curb damage. Most M6 customers stop at 20 inch or pick a 22 inch with a tire spec that protects the lip.

Will my M5 wheels fit my M6?

Generation matched, yes in pattern. The E60 M5 (2006-2010) and the E63/E64 M6 (2006-2011) both run 5x120 / 72.56mm. The F10 M5 (2013-2017) and the F06/F12/F13 M6 (2012-2018) also both run 5x120 / 72.56mm. The wheels bolt across in stud pattern and hub centering. Offset and brake clearance differ between sedan and coupe, so confirm the wheel was fit-tested on the M6 specifically. Note that the F90 M5 (2018-2023) moved to 5x112, so F90 M5 wheels do NOT fit the F06/F12/F13 M6.

Do I need hub centric rings on an M6?

Hub centric rings only when the aftermarket wheel has a centerbore larger than 72.56mm. If your fitment needs rings, they'll be included with the order.

How do I find the right wheels for my specific BMW M6?

Pick your chassis above. Both generations are 5x120 / 72.56mm, so the question is diameter, width, offset, and (on the F06/F12/F13) whether your car came with steel or carbon ceramic brakes. Use our Year/Make/Model search to see wheels that fit your specific M6 and browse the wheel gallery for real-life builds. If you are not sure which brake package your F06/F12/F13 has, our team can identify your exact configuration from your VIN. Every wheel we recommend is backed by the Fitment Guarantee.
