BMW X5 M Aftermarket Wheel Fitment
The BMW X5 M is the full performance version of the X5 SUV, sitting above the X5 M50 in the X5 family. Element Wheels catalogs the X5 M across three generations: E70 (2010-2013), F85 (2015-2018), and the current F95 (2019 and up). All three generations ship must-staggered from the factory, with a wider rear wheel than front. Bolt pattern history splits at the F95: the E70 and F85 (2010-2018) ran 5x120 with a 74.1mm hub bore, and the F95 (2019 and up) moved to 5x112 with a 66.56mm hub bore. The 74.1mm centerbore on the E70 and F85 is the spec that catches the most buyers off guard. A wheel marketed as "fits BMW 5x120" but bored to 72.56mm (the common 5x120 bore used on most BMW M cars) will not center correctly on the X5 M hub. Pick your chassis below for the fitment specs. The broader X5 fitment encyclopedia covering the non-M trims lives at /wheels/bmw/x5.
Find Your BMW X5 M Generation
Pick your chassis to see wheels and rims that fit your specific X5 M. The E70 X5 M (2010-2013) and F85 X5 M (2015-2018) both ran 5x120 with a 74.1mm hub bore. The F95 X5 M (2019 and up) moved to 5x112 with a 66.56mm hub bore. The 74.1mm centerbore on the E70 and F85 must be matched at the wheel or fitted with a properly machined hub centric ring. A generic BMW 5x120 wheel bored to 72.56mm does NOT center correctly on the E70 or F85 X5 M hub.
The BMW X5 M Bolt Pattern
The X5 M has run two bolt patterns over its history. From 2010 through 2018 the E70 X5 M and the F85 X5 M both ran 5x120 with a 74.1mm hub bore. From 2019 forward the F95 X5 M moved to 5x112 with a 66.56mm hub bore, matching the G05 X5 transition that happened the same year. The 2019 break is the single most important spec to get right when buying wheels for an F95, because aftermarket wheels listed for "BMW X5 M" without a year filter will often default to the legacy 5x120 pattern. A 5x120 wheel built for an E70 or F85 will NOT bolt onto a G05-architecture F95. M14x1.25 is the lug bolt spec across all three generations.
Worth knowing: the E70 and F85 carry a 74.1mm hub bore, NOT the 72.56mm bore most 5x120 BMW cars (E36 through F30, F80 M3, F82 M4) use. That is a 1.54mm difference at the hub. A generic BMW 5x120 wheel bored to 72.56mm will not center correctly on the E70 or F85 X5 M hub. Wheels for the E70 and F85 must be bored to 74.1mm or fitted with a properly machined hub centric ring that takes the difference. We confirm centerbore on every E70 and F85 wheel we sell. The F95 with the 5x112 / 66.56mm spec aligns with the modern BMW M family (G80 M3, G82 M4) at the bore and centers cleanly without a ring on most modern wheel listings. Compare against the rest of the BMW lineup at our BMW wheels and rims hub.
Why the Generation and Brake Package Matter
Each X5 M generation carries its own diameter window and its own brake clearance. The E70 X5 M was the first X5 M and ran 20 to 24 inch wheels in our measured window with the standard M Sport brake of the era. The F85 X5 M tightened the diameter window to 20 to 22 inch and stepped up the front brake clearance with a larger caliper. The F95 X5 M stepped the diameter window up to 21 to 24 inch and runs the largest M brake of the three. Front-larger-than-rear brake configuration is standard on the X5 M (and on most performance SUVs in this segment). Must-staggered fitment is the rule on every X5 M generation. Square fitments are not recommended on any X5 M because the rear axle carries the bulk of the power and the OEM tire spec assumes the staggered setup. The X5 M is also NOT the same fitment as the standard X5 in any generation. The M-specific track, brake package, and wheel width assumptions do not transfer from the non-M X5.
Element Wheels Measured Aftermarket Fitment, BMW X5 M
Publishable factory and wheel specs across the X5 M generations:
- E70 X5 M (2010-2013): 5x120 bolt pattern, 74.1mm hub bore, M14x1.25 lug bolts. Element aftermarket diameter range: 20 to 24 inch. Aftermarket width range: 10 inch front, 11 to 12 inch rear. Must-staggered.
- F85 X5 M (2015-2018): 5x120 bolt pattern, 74.1mm hub bore (confirm centerbore on every wheel), M14x1.25 lug bolts. Element aftermarket diameter range: 20 to 22 inch. Aftermarket width range: 9.5 to 10.5 inch front, 11.5 to 12.5 inch rear. Must-staggered. Larger front brake than the E70.
- F95 X5 M (2019 and up): 5x112 bolt pattern, 66.56mm hub bore, M14x1.25 lug bolts. Element aftermarket diameter range: 21 to 24 inch. Aftermarket width range: 10 to 10.5 inch front, 11 to 12 inch rear. Must-staggered. Largest M brake of the three.
Offset windows are tightly controlled on the X5 M because of the must-staggered geometry and the M brake clearance behind the wheel face. For your exact aftermarket offset, three options:
- 1. Use our Year/Make/Model search to see wheels that fit your specific X5 M (each listing shows its own offset).
- 2. Browse the X5 M wheel gallery for real-life builds with size, offset, and tire spec captions.
- 3. Call or chat with our team for a free fitment consultation.
How We Confirm Fitment on BMW X5 M Wheels
Element Wheels measures fitment on the platforms we sell wheels for, including every X5 M chassis. For the X5 M that means clearance from the wheel to the fender, gap between the back of the wheel and the suspension, M brake caliper height (front and rear, with the F95 brake being the largest), hub bore confirmation (this is the critical one on the E70 and F85 at 74.1mm), lug bolt seat depth for M14x1.25 bolts, and the must-staggered geometry that holds across every X5 M row in our catalog. At our fitment facility in Chandler, Arizona, the Element Wheels team measures directly on the physical platforms we support. We don't pull specs from manufacturer sheets the way most retailers do.
Every wheel we recommend is backed by our Fitment Guarantee. If a wheel does not fit, we pick up the wheels and refund 100 percent. No risk to you.
BMW X5 M Wheels and Rims FAQ
What is the bolt pattern on a BMW X5 M?
It depends on the generation. The E70 X5 M (2010-2013) and F85 X5 M (2015-2018) ran 5x120 with a 74.1mm hub bore. The F95 X5 M (2019 and up) moved to 5x112 with a 66.56mm hub bore. A 5x120 wheel does not bolt onto an F95 and a 5x112 wheel does not bolt onto an E70 or F85. M14x1.25 is the lug bolt spec on all three generations.
Why does the E70 and F85 X5 M need a 74.1mm centerbore?
The E70 and F85 X5 M hubs measure 74.1mm at the spindle, NOT the 72.56mm bore most 5x120 BMW cars (E36 through F30, F80 M3, F82 M4) use. A wheel bored to 72.56mm will not center correctly on the X5 M hub. It will sit slightly off-axis under load and introduce vibration. Wheels for the E70 and F85 must be bored to 74.1mm or fitted with a properly machined hub centric ring that takes the 1.54mm difference. We confirm centerbore on every E70 and F85 wheel we sell.
F85 vs F95 X5 M: what changes for wheels?
Bolt pattern and centerbore both change. The F85 runs 5x120 with a 74.1mm hub. The F95 runs 5x112 with a 66.56mm hub. The F95 also accepts up to 24 inch diameter where the F85 tops out at 22 inch, and the F95 runs the largest M brake of the three generations. Each chassis needs its own wheel set.
Are X5 M wheels staggered?
Yes. Every X5 M generation (E70, F85, F95) ships must-staggered from the factory, with a wider and deeper rear wheel than front. Square fitments are not recommended on any X5 M because the rear axle carries the bulk of the power and the OEM tire spec assumes the staggered setup. Aftermarket builds on every X5 M generation keep the staggered configuration.
What is the largest wheel I can fit on an X5 M?
Our measured window tops at 24 inch on the E70 X5 M, 22 inch on the F85 X5 M, and 24 inch on the F95 X5 M. Above the measured window, tire sidewall thins enough that ride quality drops sharply and the wheel sits at risk of curb damage. The factory tops at 22 inch on the F95. 23 inch and 24 inch are aftermarket-only choices with tire specs chosen to protect the lip.
Do I need hub centric rings on an X5 M?
On the E70 and F85, you must match a 74.1mm centerbore or use a properly machined hub centric ring. This is not optional. On the F95, hub centric rings only when the aftermarket wheel has a centerbore larger than 66.56mm. If your fitment needs rings, they'll be included with the order.
What is the lug spec and torque on a BMW X5 M?
M14x1.25 lug bolts on every X5 M generation. BMW lug bolt torque on the X5 M is 140 Nm (about 103 ft-lbs). Always confirm against your owner manual for your exact year. Re-torque after 50 to 100 miles when installing new wheels. Use the BMW-specified bolt seat (cone or ball) for your wheel. Element treats specific aftermarket offset windows as moat data and does not publish the exact range here. Use the Year/Make/Model search, the wheel gallery, or a fitment consultation to find your fit.
How do I find wheels for my specific BMW X5 M?
Pick your chassis above. Each chassis page covers the years we have measured with bolt pattern, centerbore, diameter and width window, and fitment specifics. If you are looking for the broader X5 fitment encyclopedia covering the non-M trims, that is at /wheels/bmw/x5. If you are not sure which X5 M chassis you have, our team can identify your exact configuration from your VIN.
