The BMW X6 M Bolt Pattern

The X6 M has run two bolt patterns over its history. From 2015 through 2019 the F86 X6 M ran 5x120 with a 74.1mm front hub bore and a 72.56mm rear hub bore. From 2020 forward the F96 X6 M moved to 5x112 with a 66.56mm hub bore that is uniform front and rear, matching the G06 X6 transition that happened the same year. The 2020 break is the single most important spec to get right when buying wheels for an F96, because aftermarket wheels listed for "BMW X6 M" without a year filter will often default to the legacy 5x120 pattern. A 5x120 wheel built for an F86 will NOT bolt onto an F96. M14x1.25 is the lug bolt spec on both generations.

The F86 split centerbore is the part that catches buyers off guard. The front hub measures 74.1mm at the spindle, the same bore used on the F85 X5 M. The rear hub measures 72.56mm at the spindle, the same bore most other 5x120 BMW cars use (E36 through F30, F80 M3, F82 M4). A staggered wheel set for the F86 must be bored 74.1mm in front and 72.56mm in rear, OR run hub centric rings that take the difference on the axle that does not match. Buying a wheel set bored uniformly at one centerbore and assuming it fits will produce a vibration issue on the axle that does not match. Why the Generation and Brake Package Matter

Each X6 M generation runs a different diameter window and a different brake clearance. The F86 X6 M (2015-2019) accepted 20 to 22 inch wheels with optional staggered fitment, on the larger M Sport brake package of its era. The F96 X6 M (2020 and up) stepped up to a 21 to 24 inch range and ships must-staggered from the factory. Front-larger-than-rear brake configuration is standard on the X6 M (and on most performance SUVs in this segment). The F86 brake step-up between trims and the F96 M brake clearance window both affect aftermarket wheel face geometry. The X6 M is NOT the same fitment as the standard X6 in any generation. The M-specific track, brake package, and wheel width assumptions do not transfer from the non-M X6.
