Buick Regal Aftermarket Wheel Fitment
The Buick Regal is a midsize sport sedan with one of the more complicated platform histories in the Buick lineup. The modern Regal ran across three platform eras and the bolt pattern changed twice. The 1992-1996 (4th gen) and 1997-2004 (5th gen) Regals were built on the GM W-body platform and ran 5x115 with a 70.3mm hub bore. The 2011-2017 (6th gen) Regal moved to the Opel Insignia A platform and the bolt pattern changed to 5x120 with a 66.9mm hub bore. The 2018-2020 (7th gen) Regal Sportback, TourX wagon, and GS moved to the Opel Insignia B platform and the bolt pattern reverted to 5x115 with a 70.3mm hub bore. So a 2017 Regal and a 2018 Regal carry different bolt patterns despite consecutive model years. The Regal was discontinued in North America after the 2020 model year. Element Wheels tracks the Regal by generation, and the Regal GS with Brembo front brakes is tracked as its own variant because the larger front caliper tightens front-wheel clearance compared with the base Regal. The collector 1978-1987 Regal (the G-body era that produced the Grand National turbo Regal) runs a different 5x120.65 / 5x4.75 collector pattern and is covered on the Buick Grand National hub.
Find Your Buick Regal Generation
Pick your year range to see wheels and rims that fit your specific Regal. The bolt pattern changes between generations. Confirm your year before ordering since 5x115 and 5x120 wheels do not cross.
The Buick Regal Bolt Pattern
The Regal has used two different bolt patterns across the modern era and the pattern changes twice. The 1992-2004 W-body Regals ran 5x115 with a 70.3mm hub bore. The 2011-2017 Insignia-based Regal switched to 5x120 with a 66.9mm hub bore. The 2018-2020 Sportback, TourX, and GS reverted to 5x115 with a 70.3mm hub bore on the new Opel Insignia B platform. The lug count is 5 across every modern Regal. The thread pitch is M14x1.5 on the 2011-2017 Insignia A and M12x1.5 on the W-body and Insignia B generations.
A 5x115 and 5x120 bolt circle differ by only 5mm, which is close enough to look almost identical at the lug, but the studs do not seat correctly across patterns and the wheels do not safely interchange. Force-fitting a 5x120 wheel onto a 5x115 hub (or the reverse) puts stress on the lugs that will eventually fail. Confirm your year and pattern before ordering. The 2017 Regal and the 2018 Regal are consecutive model years on different patterns. Compare across the rest of the Buick lineup at our Buick wheels and rims hub.
Why the Regal Bolt Pattern Flipped Mid-Era
The 2011 Regal was a clean break from the older W-body cars. GM brought the Opel Insignia A from Europe and badged it as the Regal for the North American market. The Insignia A ran the European 5x120 bolt pattern with a 66.9mm hub bore. That spec stayed on the Regal through the 2017 model year. For the 2018 model year GM launched the all-new Opel Insignia B, sold here as the Regal Sportback, the TourX wagon, and the Regal GS. The Insignia B reverted to a 5x115 bolt pattern with a 70.3mm hub bore. So consecutive 2017 and 2018 model years carry different bolt patterns despite both being called Regal and both being Insignia-derived.
The Regal GS is the performance variant we track as its own row in the catalog. The 6th gen 2011-2017 Regal GS adds a larger front Brembo caliper to the base Insignia A platform. The 7th gen 2018-2020 Regal GS uses an AWD V6 powertrain and a larger front caliper compared with the Sportback. The larger front caliper tightens the inner-barrel clearance the wheel needs to clear. Bolt pattern and hub bore on each GS still match the base car of the same generation (5x120 / 66.9mm on the 6th gen GS, 5x115 / 70.3mm on the 7th gen GS). What changes is the front wheel-face clearance window.

How We Confirm Fitment on Buick Regal Wheels
Element Wheels measures fitment on the platforms we sell wheels for, including the modern Regal generations. For the Regal that means clearance from the wheel to the fender, gap between the back of the wheel and the suspension, brake caliper height (especially on the GS Brembo variant), hub protrusion, lug seat depth, and turning clearance with 19 to 20 inch wheels installed. At our fitment facility in Chandler, Arizona, the Element Wheels team measures directly on the physical platforms we support. We don't pull specs from manufacturer sheets the way most retailers do.
Every wheel we recommend is backed by our Fitment Guarantee. If a wheel does not fit, we pick up the wheels and refund 100 percent. No risk to you.
Buick Regal Wheels and Rims FAQ
What is the bolt pattern on a Buick Regal?
It depends on the generation. The 1992-2004 W-body Regals ran 5x115 with a 70.3mm hub bore. The 2011-2017 Insignia-based Regal ran 5x120 with a 66.9mm hub bore. The 2018-2020 Sportback, TourX, and GS reverted to 5x115 with a 70.3mm hub bore. Lug count is 5 across every modern Regal.
Will my 2017 Regal wheels fit a 2018 Regal?
No. Consecutive model years but different platforms and different bolt patterns. The 2017 Regal is on the Opel Insignia A platform with a 5x120 bolt pattern and a 66.9mm hub bore. The 2018 Regal Sportback is on the all-new Opel Insignia B platform with a 5x115 bolt pattern and a 70.3mm hub bore. Wheels do not cross between them. Confirm your year before ordering.
Is the Regal GS tracked separately from the base Regal?
Yes. The Regal GS uses a larger front brake caliper than the base Regal (Brembo on the 2011-2017 GS, larger calipers on the 2018-2020 GS as well). Bolt pattern and hub bore match the base car of the same generation (5x120 / 66.9mm on the 6th gen, 5x115 / 70.3mm on the 7th gen) but the front wheel-face clearance tightens. We measure the GS Brembo variant separately so the wheels we show clear the larger caliper.
Does the TourX wagon use the same wheels as the Sportback?
The 2018-2020 Regal TourX wagon and the 2018-2020 Regal Sportback share the same Opel Insignia B platform, the same 5x115 bolt pattern, and the same 70.3mm hub bore. The bolt-on architecture matches. The TourX rides slightly higher with all-wheel-drive standard and the offset window can shift a touch versus the Sportback, so the catalog tracks each body style separately. Bolt pattern and hub bore are identical.
What is the factory wheel size on a Buick Regal?
It depends on the generation and trim. W-body Regals typically shipped with 15 or 16 inch wheels. 2011-2017 base trims shipped with 17 or 18 inch and the GS shipped with 19 inch. 2018-2020 Sportback base trims shipped with 18 inch, GS shipped with 19 inch, and TourX shipped with 18 inch. The bolt pattern and hub bore are identical across trims within each generation.
What is the largest wheel I can fit on a Buick Regal?
Our measured aftermarket window tops at 20 inch diameter on every modern Regal generation. 19 inch is the most common upgrade target on the GS trims and 20 inch is the most common upgrade target on the base Regal builds. The W-body Regals fit comfortably from 16 to 20 inch in our catalog. The Insignia-era Regals fit 18 to 20 inch.
Are Buick Regal wheels staggered?
No. The Regal runs square (same width front and rear) in every factory configuration we have measured. Aftermarket Regal builds occasionally run a staggered setup as a styling choice on the GS, but the catalog window stays square across the lineup.
Do I need hub centric rings on a Buick Regal?
Hub centric rings only when the aftermarket wheel has a centerbore larger than the Regal's factory hub. W-body and Insignia B Regals are 70.3mm. The 2011-2017 Insignia A Regal is 66.9mm. If your fitment needs rings, they'll be included with the order.
