Cadillac XLR Aftermarket Wheel Fitment

The Cadillac XLR is the rear-drive luxury roadster Cadillac sold from the 2004 through the 2009 model year. It is built on the GM Y-body architecture shared with the Corvette C6, with a Cadillac-engineered body, interior, retractable hardtop, and Northstar V8 driveline up top. Element Wheels catalogs the XLR in two rows: the base 2004-2009 XLR with the naturally aspirated Northstar V8, and the 2006-2009 XLR-V with the supercharged Northstar V8 and the larger front brake package. Both rows run 5x120.65 with a 70.3mm hub bore, five lugs, M12x1.5 thread pitch. The XLR shares lug-and-hub fitment hardware with the contemporary Corvette C5 and C6 because both ride on the GM Y-body chassis. The XLR is also one of the small number of Cadillac fitments where the catalog allows a real factory staggered setup, with a wider rear option and different front and rear offset windows.

Find Your Cadillac XLR Configuration

Pick your trim to see wheels and rims that fit your specific XLR. Both rows share 5x120.65 / 70.3mm with five lugs and M12x1.5 thread pitch. The split between base XLR and XLR-V matters for the front brake clearance and diameter window, not for whether the wheel bolts on.

The Cadillac XLR Bolt Pattern is 5x120.65

Every 2004-2009 Cadillac XLR and 2006-2009 Cadillac XLR-V runs 5x120.65 with a 70.3mm hub bore. Five lugs, M12x1.5 thread pitch, factory lug nuts. 5x120.65 is the GM Y-body Corvette pattern, sometimes written as 5x4.75 in imperial form (120.65mm converts to 4.75 inches). The XLR shares the bolt pattern and hub bore with the contemporary Corvette C5 (1997-2004) and Corvette C6 (2005-2013). At the lug and hub level, Corvette C5 and C6 wheels bolt to an XLR.

The XLR is 5x120.65 specifically. The Cadillac sedan and coupe lineup mostly runs 5x115 (DeVille, Seville, DTS, El Dorado, ELR, STS, CTS, ATS, CT5, CT6). A 5x115 wheel does not fit an XLR. The patterns look close on paper but the stud spacing is different at every lug position. Confirm 5x120.65 before you order.

The 70.3mm hub bore is the GM Y-body hub spec. If your aftermarket wheel has a centerbore larger than 70.3mm (common on universal-fit wheels and on wheels originally specced for a different platform), it needs a hub centric ring to land hub-centric on the XLR hub. Most aftermarket Corvette wheels are already bored to 70.3mm so rings are not needed when cross-shopping Corvette-bored aftermarket designs onto an XLR.

Compare across the rest of the Cadillac lineup at our Cadillac wheels and rims hub. The XLR is one of the only Cadillac models on the 5x120.65 Y-body pattern in our catalog. The rest of the modern Cadillac sedan and coupe lineup runs 5x115. The XLR is also one of the only Cadillac fitments where a staggered setup is part of the factory geometry, with a wider rear width window and different front and rear offset ranges.

How the XLR-V Changes the Wheel Window

The base XLR (2004-2009) is the naturally aspirated Northstar V8 luxury roadster. The Element measured diameter window on the base XLR runs 18 to 20 inch. Width runs 8 to 9 inch front and 8 to 9.5 inch rear. The front and rear width windows differ slightly, which is what the catalog FT=3 fitment type signals: an optional staggered setup is supported, with a wider rear option. Brake clearance on the base XLR is standard front and rear (catalog brake size 1/1).

The XLR-V (2006-2009) is the supercharged Northstar V8 high-performance trim. The XLR-V got the bigger front brake package as part of the V upgrade (catalog brake size 3 front, brake size 1 rear). That moves the diameter floor up to 19 inch on the XLR-V because the larger front caliper demands a wheel barrel that clears the front brake hardware, and a sub-19-inch wheel will not clear the V front brake. Width and offset windows are the same between base XLR and XLR-V at 8-9 inch front, 8-9.5 inch rear. Bolt pattern, hub bore, lug count, and thread pitch are identical between base XLR and XLR-V. The big difference is the front brake clearance.

How We Confirm Fitment on Cadillac XLR Wheels

Element Wheels measures fitment on the platforms we sell wheels for, including the XLR and XLR-V. For the XLR that means clearance from the wheel to the fender on both axles, gap between the back of the wheel and the rear-drive suspension components (the Y-body rear suspension is tighter to the inner barrel than most luxury sedans), front brake caliper height across both the base XLR caliper and the larger XLR-V front Brembo, hub bore confirmation to the 70.3mm Y-body spec, lug seat geometry across the M12x1.5 thread pitch, and turning clearance with the wheel and tire installed at full lock. At our fitment facility in Chandler, Arizona, the Element Wheels team measures directly on the physical platforms we support. We don't pull specs from manufacturer sheets the way most retailers do. That measurement work is what catches the 19 inch diameter floor on the XLR-V that the base XLR doesn't have, and produces the published diameter and width windows above.

Cadillac XLR Wheels and Rims FAQ

What is the bolt pattern on a Cadillac XLR?

Every 2004-2009 Cadillac XLR and 2006-2009 Cadillac XLR-V runs 5x120.65 with a 70.3mm hub bore. Five lugs, M12x1.5 thread pitch. 5x120.65 is the GM Y-body Corvette pattern, sometimes written as 5x4.75 in imperial form. A 5x115 wheel from the rest of the Cadillac sedan and coupe lineup does not fit an XLR. Confirm 5x120.65 before you order.

What is the difference between the XLR and XLR-V for wheels?

The base XLR has the naturally aspirated Northstar V8 and a standard front brake package. The XLR-V has the supercharged Northstar V8 and a larger front Brembo brake package. Both share the same bolt pattern, hub bore, lug count, and thread pitch (5x120.65 / 70.3mm, five-lug, M12x1.5). Both share the same 8-9 inch front and 8-9.5 inch rear width window. The diameter window differs: base XLR runs 18-20 inch and XLR-V runs 19-20 inch, because the larger XLR-V front brake demands at least a 19 inch wheel.

Will Corvette C6 wheels fit a Cadillac XLR?

Same-chassis fact: yes at the lug and hub level. The XLR and the Corvette C6 share the GM Y-body chassis architecture and the same 5x120.65 / 70.3mm wheel hardware. A Corvette C6 wheel will bolt to an XLR. Two things to confirm before crossing a wheel: the C6 width window goes wider than the XLR width window (C6 Z06 and ZR1 ran 9.5 and 10 inch rears that exceed the XLR's 8-9.5 inch rear window), and the XLR-V front Brembo clearance bar applies. A C6 base wheel inside the 8-9 inch front and 8-9.5 inch rear range with the right offset is a clean candidate.

Can I run a staggered setup on a Cadillac XLR?

Yes. The XLR is one of the small number of Cadillac fitments in our catalog where a real staggered setup is supported. Catalog fitment type 3 means stagger is an option, not a requirement. Front width window is 8-9 inch, rear width window is 8-9.5 inch, with different front and rear offset ranges to match. You can run square at 8 or 9 inch all four corners, or you can run a wider 9.5 inch rear with a matched-offset 9 inch front. The Y-body chassis is rear-drive and supports the wider rear width without drivetrain concerns.

Does the XLR-V front Brembo limit aftermarket wheel choice?

It sets a 19 inch diameter floor. The XLR-V front brake is the larger Brembo caliper package and it demands a wheel barrel that clears the front brake hardware. An 18 inch wheel that fits a base XLR will not clear the XLR-V front Brembo. Inside the 19-20 inch range, most modern forged or flow-formed Y-body wheels clear it fine. The wheels to watch are budget cast wheels with tight inner barrels in 19 inch. We check this physically on every XLR-V fitment in our database.

What is the largest wheel I can fit on a Cadillac XLR?

20 inch is the top of our measured window on both the base XLR and the XLR-V. 19 inch is the most common aftermarket choice on the platform for a balance of ride quality and visual presence. 20 inch is the upsize. We do not recommend going above 20 inch on either trim. The Y-body roadster geometry punishes overly large wheels and tire selection in 5x120.65 thins out sharply above 20.

Do I need hub centric rings on a Cadillac XLR?

Hub centric rings only when the aftermarket wheel has a centerbore larger than 70.3mm. The hub bore is the same across base XLR and XLR-V. Most aftermarket Corvette wheels are already bored to 70.3mm so rings are not needed when cross-shopping Corvette-bored designs. If you are running a universal-bore wheel at 73.1mm or BMW-bored wheels at 72.56mm, you will need a step-down ring. If your fitment needs rings, they'll be included with the order.

How do I find the right wheels for my specific Cadillac XLR?

Confirm your trim. The base XLR (2004-2009) takes an 18 to 20 inch wheel. The XLR-V (2006-2009) takes a 19 to 20 inch wheel because of the larger front brake. Both are 5x120.65 / 70.3mm with five lugs and M12x1.5 thread pitch. Both support optional staggered setups with 8-9 inch front and 8-9.5 inch rear width windows. Use our Year/Make/Model search to see wheels that fit your specific XLR and browse the wheel gallery for real-life builds. Every wheel is backed by the Fitment Guarantee.
