The Chevrolet Caprice ran as a US-market full-size sedan from 1965 through 1996, then returned from 2011 to 2017 as the Caprice PPV (the police patrol vehicle, an LHD rebadge of the Australian Holden Commodore VE and VF that shared its chassis with the Pontiac G8 and the Chevrolet SS Sport Sedan). Element Wheels carries measured fitment for the 1990-1996 fourth-generation B-body Caprice, the late-production rear-drive sedan that also underpinned the 1994-1996 Impala SS. The B-body Caprice runs 5x127 (also called 5x5" in imperial because 127mm is exactly 5 inches) with a 78.3mm hub bore. The 5x127 pattern is the GM full-size pattern shared with the Buick Roadmaster, Cadillac Fleetwood, and the rear-drive 1990s Impala SS. Diameter window runs from 15 inch up to 22 inch with optional staggered fitment for the dropped-stance look common on Box Chevy and donk builds.

The Chevrolet Caprice Bolt Pattern

The 1990-1996 fourth-gen Caprice uses 5x127 (also called 5x5" in imperial because 127mm is exactly 5 inches) with a 78.3mm hub bore. That is the GM full-size B-body and D-body pattern, the same pattern run on the Buick Roadmaster, Cadillac Fleetwood, the 1994-1996 Impala SS (which is a Caprice B-body with the LT1 small block and Impala SS body trim), and most heavy-duty rear-drive GM cars of the era. The 78.3mm hub bore is larger than the 70.3mm bore on the A-body and G-body muscle cars, reflecting the heavier full-size axle. The 5x127 pattern is also shared with classic Jeep Wrangler TJ and CJ models, but the offset windows and hub bore are different enough that a Caprice wheel will not work on a Jeep without significant work.

Count the lug studs on one rear wheel to confirm. Five studs, full-size B-body Caprice, means 5x127. The Caprice has used this bolt pattern on the fourth-gen B-body and on the late-production 1965-1989 generations that preceded it. If your Caprice is from 2011-2017 (the Caprice PPV era, a Holden Commodore VE/VF rebadge developed for US police fleets), the bolt pattern changed because the platform changed. The PPV runs 5x120 with a 66.9mm hub bore, the same Zeta platform spec as the Pontiac G8 and the Chevrolet SS Sport Sedan, because the three cars are mechanically the same Australian-engineered Holden. Why the Caprice Accepts Wider, Deeper Aftermarket Wheels

The 1990-1996 B-body Caprice is a heavy, full-size, rear-drive sedan with a generous fender well and a wide rear axle. That combination makes it one of the more accommodating aftermarket fitment platforms in the GM catalog. The factory Caprice ran 15 or 16 inch steel wheels with a modest positive offset. Modern builds, whether bagged Box Chevy donks, Impala SS replicas, lowrider air-ride setups, or restored daily-drivers, often go up to 20 or even 22 inch wheels with a deeper offset and wider width than what the factory shipped. The 78.3mm hub bore and 5x127 bolt pattern leave plenty of aftermarket options.

The Caprice is a popular custom build platform. Bagged Box Chevys, donks on 22 to 26 inch wheels, lowrider air-ride setups, and Impala SS replicas all live in this aftermarket. The published window covers stock-height to lightly-dropped fitments.
