Why El Camino Builds Run Staggered with a Deeper Rear

The El Camino is a rear-drive, body-on-frame chassis with a roomy rear arch and a relatively narrow stock track up front. The factory El Camino ran 14 inch steel wheels with a near-zero offset. Modern restomod, pro-touring, and resto-mod builds typically step up to 17 through 20 inch wheels, often staggered with a wider, deeper-offset rear that fills the bed-side fender. The G-body fifth gen accepts the most aggressive rear offset of the three generations because the rear arch geometry was opened up slightly on the G-body. The A-body third and fourth gen accept the same rear width but with a touch more conservative offset.
