Datsun Aftermarket Wheel Fitment
Datsun is one of the longest running collector platforms in our customer base, anchored entirely by the 280Z (1975-1978). Datsun was discontinued in the US after 1981 when the Nissan name took over, but the 280Z aftermarket has remained active for decades because of the strong Z-car enthusiast community. The 280Z runs a 4x114.3 bolt pattern, the early Japanese sports car pattern shared with the older 240Z, 260Z, Datsun 510, and a handful of period Toyota and Mazda cars. Aftermarket wheel selection on 4x114.3 is concentrated in the period-correct mesh and five spoke designs the Z-car community favors. Element Wheels has measured fitment on the 280Z so the wheels we show you have been validated for the chassis. Pick the 280Z below and you can rest assured the wheels and rims will fit the way you want every time.

The Datsun Bolt Pattern Landscape
The 280Z is the only Datsun in the modern aftermarket and it runs one bolt pattern.
Datsun bolt patterns at a glance
Datsun 280Z (1975-1978): 4x114.3 (also called 4x4.5). The early Japanese sports car pattern shared with the 240Z, 260Z, and Datsun 510.
The 4x114.3 pattern is the period-correct fitment most Z-car owners are restoring or upgrading toward. Modern 5 lug conversions exist but are a different aftermarket conversation.
How We Confirm Fitment
Element Wheels measures fitment on Datsun models we sell wheels for. For each chassis and brake combination we measure clearance from the wheel to the fender, gap between the back of the wheel and any suspension components, brake caliper height, hub protrusion, lug height, and how much room the front wheel has when turning lock to lock. We do this on the car, not from a spec sheet.
That measurement work covers the Datsun 280Z in our catalog. The 280Z is tracked on the 4x114.3 pattern with the period-correct offset windows. 5 lug conversions to 5x114.3 (the modern Nissan pattern) are common on restomod builds but require a separate hub conversion and are not covered on this page.
Every wheel we recommend is backed by our Fitment Guarantee. If a wheel does not fit, we pick up the wheels and refund 100 percent. No risk to you.
Datsun Wheel and Rim FAQ
What is the Datsun 280Z bolt pattern?
The 280Z runs 4x114.3 (4x4.5). It is the early Japanese sports car pattern shared with the older 240Z, 260Z, Datsun 510, and several period Toyota and Mazda cars.
Will modern Nissan 350Z wheels fit a 280Z?
No. The 280Z runs 4x114.3. The 350Z and 370Z run 5x114.3. The lug count is different and the patterns do not cross. A 5 lug hub conversion is required to run modern Nissan wheels on a 280Z, which is a separate build path.
Are 280Z wheels staggered?
The 280Z ships square from the factory. Aftermarket staggered builds exist on restored 280Zs as a styling choice, but the rear weight bias is not pronounced enough to require a wider rear from the factory.
Will period Datsun 510 wheels fit a 280Z?
The bolt pattern matches (both run 4x114.3). Offset and centerbore differ between the lighter 510 and the heavier 280Z. Period Datsun wheels often need to be confirmed on the specific chassis before mounting. Brake clearance differs as well.
How do I find wheels for my 280Z?
Pick the 280Z model page above. The page covers the 4x114.3 fitment with the period-correct offset windows and the wheel selection that fits without modification. If you have done a 5 lug conversion, contact our team and we can match wheels to the converted hub.
