The Promaster 1500 is front wheel drive (the only front wheel drive Ram on sale), runs 5x130 with a 78.1mm hub bore and M16x1.5 lug thread, and uses commercial van wheels in 16 to 17 inch diameter. None of those numbers come from the Ram truck side of the catalog. The Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 trucks all run 5x139.7 or 6x139.7 with M14x1.5 or M14x1.25 lug threads. The Ram Promaster 1500 Bolt Pattern Is the European Commercial Van Pattern

The Ram Promaster 1500 runs 5x130 with a 78.1mm hub bore, M16x1.5 thread pitch, and 5 lug. Every spec in that string is unusual for a Dodge or Ram product. 5x130 is the European commercial van pattern. The same 5x130 pattern (with similar hub bore) appears on the Mercedes Sprinter, the Volkswagen Crafter, and Porsche's passenger car lineup (where 5x130 / 71.5mm CB has been Porsche's wheel interface since the 911 of the 1960s). The Promaster fits into the Sprinter family at the wheel interface, not into any Ram truck family.

M16x1.5 lug thread is the commercial van standard. Passenger Ram trucks use M14x1.5 (1500 series) or M14x1.25 (2500/3500 series). The Promaster uses M16x1.5 because the wheel sees commercial duty loads (up to 4,500 pounds payload on the 1500 trim). M16 lug nuts are physically larger than M14 lug nuts. 5x130 is a distinct pattern from 5x139.7 (the classic Ram 1500 pickup pattern through 2018) and from 6x139.7 (the new DT-platform Ram 1500 from 2019 forward, and the Ram 2500 and 3500 Heavy Duty). Why the Promaster Is the Fiat Ducato, and Why It Doesn't Share Wheels With the Ram 1500

The Ram Promaster is the Fiat Ducato rebadged for the North American market. Fiat has built the Ducato in Europe since 1981 and the current 8th gen Ducato (X290 platform, 2014 to present) is the platform under every North American Ram Promaster. When Stellantis (then FCA) brought the Fiat commercial van to the US for the 2014 model year, the badge changed to Ram but the chassis, the engines, the front wheel drive layout, and the wheel interface stayed Fiat. That's why the Promaster runs European commercial van specs across the board.

The front wheel drive layout is one of the rebadge tells. Every other Ram truck is rear wheel drive or four wheel drive. The Promaster is front wheel drive on every trim including the 1500. The advantage of front wheel drive on a commercial van is a flat low load floor (no driveshaft tunnel running through the cargo box), which is what makes the Promaster the upfit favorite for Class B campers, plumber's vans, and cargo conversions. The disadvantage is the front axle carries both drive and steering loads, which is why the Promaster has wider lug studs (M16) and larger wheels for the segment.

The Mercedes Sprinter is the Promaster's closest North American competitor and also runs 5x130. That makes the Sprinter the Promaster's nearest cross shop at the wheel interface. The Promaster runs 5x130 / 78.1mm hub bore. The 2007-2018 Sprinter runs 5x130 with a 84.0mm hub bore. The 2019 and up Sprinter (VS30) runs 5x130 with a 84.0mm hub bore. Same bolt pattern, larger hub bore on the Sprinter. A wheel that hub centers on a Sprinter (84.0mm bore) will be too loose to hub center on a Promaster (78.1mm hub), so a step-down ring is required. Going the other direction, a wheel designed for the Promaster (bored at 78.1mm) physically cannot fit a Sprinter without re-boring. Each platform tracks separately in our catalog.
