The Ford F-150 is one of the highest volume aftermarket wheel platforms in our catalog. Element Wheels has measured F-150 fitments back to the pre-1997 trucks and forward through the current 14th generation 6x135 truck, including the Raptor and the F-150 Lightning EV (2022 and up). The F-150 is also the model where customers make the most fitment mistakes, because Ford changed the bolt pattern twice. Pre-1997 F-150s ran 5x139.7 (5x5.5). The 1997 to 2003 trucks moved to 5x135. The 2004 redesign moved to 6x135, and the pattern has held since. Wheels do not cross between any of those three eras. Bolt pattern transitions twice across the lineup: pre-1997 ran 5x139.7, 1997 to 2003 ran 5x135, and 2004 and newer trucks moved to 6x135. The Raptor runs its own fitment window separate from the standard F-150. The 13th generation (2015 and newer) moved to an aluminum body which changed weight and the offset windows even though the bolt pattern stayed 6x135. The F-150 Lightning EV is the battery-electric pickup and is tracked separately because the weight is different from a gas F-150 of the same generation.

The Ford F-150 Bolt Pattern Changed Twice

Pre-1997 F-150 ran 5x139.7 (also called 5x5.5). The 1997 redesign moved the truck to 5x135 and held that pattern through 2003. Ford redesigned the truck again for 2004 and moved to 6x135. The pattern has been 6x135 on every F-150 built since, including the F-150 Lightning EV (2022 and up) which is a battery-electric pickup on the same 6x135 hub. Factory hub bore on the 2004 and newer trucks is 87mm. Lug count is the easiest way to confirm your truck. 5 studs on the wheel means a pre-2004 F-150 (either 5x139.7 pre-1997 or 5x135 from 1997-2003). 6 studs means a 2004 or newer F-150 on 6x135. The wheels do not bolt across any of those transitions.

A few special-case rows belong on this hub even though they share the basic patterns: the F-150 SVT Lightning (the older supercharged performance variant from the 1990s/early 2000s) is 5x135 because it lives in the 1997-2003 era. The F-150 Heritage (the 2004 carry-over body) also runs 5x135. There is also an F-150 XL Heavy Duty 7-Lug variant on 7x150 that is a niche fleet/HD configuration; if you have 7 studs, you are on that row. If you are shopping for the F-250 or F-350 Super Duty, that is a separate platform with 8 lug patterns (8x170 SRW or 8x200 Dually) that does not cross to any F-150. Why F-150 Fitment Is Harder Than Most Trucks

The F-150 has more fitment variables than almost any other platform we carry. Two bolt-pattern transitions (5x139.7 to 5x135 in 1997, then 5x135 to 6x135 in 2004) are the biggest customer mistakes. The 13th generation aluminum body redesign in 2015 changed how the truck carries weight and shifted the offset windows on some wheel sizes. The F-150 Raptor runs a wider track and larger brakes than the standard F-150 and needs its own fitment row. The F-150 Lightning EV runs different per-wheel-corner weight than the gas F-150 because of the battery pack and is tracked as its own row from 2022 forward. And on every generation we track stock height separately from leveled and lifted because the wheel that clears at stock height can rub a fender or a control arm once the truck is lifted.

The brake setup also shifts by trim. Base XL and XLT trucks carry one caliper, the Limited and Platinum carry a larger caliper on some packages, and the Raptor carries a different brake again. Each caliper sits in a different position inside the wheel. The wheels we recommend on each F-150 leaf page have been measured against your exact brake setup, not the model average.

How We Confirm Fitment on Ford F-150 Wheels

For the F-150 that means clearance from the wheel to the fender, gap between the back of the wheel and the suspension components, brake caliper height across the XL / XLT / Limited / Platinum / Raptor packages, hub protrusion and bore confirmation on the 87mm factory hub, lug seat geometry on the 6-lug studs, tire clearance at full lock, and how much room the wheel and tire have once the truck is leveled or lifted with the tire size the customer plans to run. At our fitment facility in Chandler, Arizona, the Element Wheels team measures directly on the physical platforms we support. We don't pull specs from manufacturer sheets the way most retailers do.
