The Ford Freestar Bolt Pattern

The Freestar runs 5x108 with a 63.36mm hub bore across every model year, 2004 through 2007. 5x108 is Ford's metric 5-lug pattern, also written 5x4.25 imperial (108mm equals approximately 4.25 inches). The same 5x108 pattern appears on the contemporary Ford Freestyle and Ford Five Hundred (2005-2007) and on the original Ford Taurus generations from the late 1980s and 1990s.

The detail that trips buyers. 5x108 and 5x114.3 are different patterns and the wheels do not interchange. 108mm is approximately 4.25 inches at the stud circle. 114.3mm is exactly 4.5 inches. The two patterns sit 6.3mm apart at the studs, which is enough to load the studs unevenly and is not a safe fit. The Freestar is 5x108 only. Most modern Ford passenger cars and crossovers (Mustang, Edge, Explorer, Flex, Taurus from 2010 onward) run 5x114.3, but the Freestar predates that transition and uses the older Ford metric 5x108 pattern instead. Freestar Trims, Engines, and Drivetrain Variants

The Freestar lineup runs across S, SE, SEL, and Limited trim levels with the 3.9 liter Essex V6 and the 4.2 liter Essex V6. Every Freestar is front-wheel drive (the Freestar was never offered with all-wheel drive in the United States; AWD was a Windstar predecessor option that did not carry to the Freestar). None of these trim or engine combinations changes the wheel fitment box. The brake package is matched front to rear and the Freestar runs square (same width front and rear) on every trim. Same wheel spec works front and rear on every Freestar.

The Mercury Monterey is the Freestar's sister minivan on the same V229 platform with the same 5x108 / 63.36mm fitment. The Monterey is mechanically equivalent for wheel and rim shopping purposes and uses the same Element Wheels measured aftermarket window as the Freestar.

How We Confirm Fitment on Ford Freestar Wheels

The Freestar is a minivan with a heavier curb weight than a passenger car. Load rating on the tire matters more than it does on a sedan, and we factor minivan curb weight and load index into the diameter and width window we publish. A 20 inch wheel on a Freestar needs a tire with the correct load rating for a minivan, not a passenger-car tire borrowed from a similar diameter on a smaller car.
