The Ford ZX2 Bolt Pattern

The ZX2 runs 4x100 with a 54.1mm hub bore across every model year, 1998 through 2003. 4x100 is one of the most widely shared 4-lug patterns in the industry, used by the contemporary US-market Ford Escort sedan and wagon and by a long list of small imports and domestic cars from the same era including the Mazda Protege, the pre-2001 Honda Civic, and most small Toyota and Nissan models of the period. That makes wheel selection on the ZX2 broader than the pattern usually associated with a discontinued American compact: the 4x100 inventory is large.

The detail that trips buyers. 4x100 and 4x108 are different patterns and the wheels do not interchange. 100mm is approximately 3.94 inches at the stud circle. 108mm is approximately 4.25 inches. The two patterns sit 8mm apart at the studs, which is enough to load the studs unevenly and is not a safe fit. The ZX2 is 4x100 only. The contemporary Ford Contour (1995-2000) used 4x108, the contemporary Ford Focus Mk1 also used 4x108, but the ZX2 stayed on 4x100 because of its small Escort platform lineage. ZX2 Trims and Engine Variants

The ZX2 lineup ran across a small set of trims (Cool, Hot, S/R, ZX2 base) with the 2.0 liter Zetec inline-four engine across the full production run. Every ZX2 is front-wheel drive (the ZX2 was never offered with all-wheel drive). None of these trim or engine combinations changes the wheel fitment box. The brake package is matched front to rear and the ZX2 runs square (same width front and rear) on every trim. Same wheel spec works front and rear on every ZX2.

The ZX2 is a small lightweight coupe and the brake package is sized accordingly. Aftermarket wheel choice on the ZX2 is rarely brake-clearance limited, but the small 54.1mm hub bore is the spec to watch. The hub bore is smaller than the 56.1mm or 57.1mm hub bore on most aftermarket wheel listings, so a hub centric ring sized down to 54.1mm is almost always part of a ZX2 fitment.
