Mercedes-Benz CL-Class Aftermarket Wheel Fitment
The Mercedes-Benz CL-Class is the personal luxury coupe Mercedes built across three generations: the C140 (1992-1999), the C215 (1999-2006), and the C216 (2007-2014). The CL nameplate ran continuously for 22 model years and was discontinued after the 2014 model year. Mercedes replaced it with the S-Class Coupe (C217) for 2015 and the nameplate has not returned. Element Wheels measures fitment across every CL trim we sell wheels for: the base CL Class coupes, CL 550, CL 55 AMG, CL 63 AMG, and CL 65 AMG. The bolt pattern is constant at 5x112 with a 66.56mm hub bore across the entire CL run, every generation, every trim. The lug fastener is M14x1.5, lug bolt style (Mercedes uses a bolt that threads into the hub, not a stud with a separate lug nut). Every CL is an optional staggered fitment in our catalog, meaning the platform was engineered to run either square or staggered depending on customer preference, and our measured fitment box covers both. The AMG variants (CL 55, CL 63, CL 65) all carry larger brakes than the non-AMG trims, with the front brake larger than the rear, which is the standard configuration on a high output Mercedes-AMG performance variant. The CL 550 (C216, 2007-2014) carries an additional catalog note for a tall front hub that affects the centercap and bore clearance window on most aftermarket wheels. Pick your generation and trim below for the fitment specs that apply to your specific CL.
Find Your Mercedes-Benz CL-Class Generation
Pick your chassis and trim to see wheels and rims that fit your specific CL. Bolt pattern is 5x112 / 66.56mm CB on every CL. What changes is the chassis generation (C140, C215, or C216) and the brake package on the CL 550 and the AMG variants.
The Mercedes-Benz CL-Class Bolt Pattern
Every Mercedes-Benz CL in our catalog uses 5x112 with a 66.56mm hub bore. That covers the C140 (1992-1999), the C215 (1999-2006), and the C216 (2007-2014), every trim, including base CL Class coupes, CL 550, CL 55 AMG, CL 63 AMG, and CL 65 AMG. Mercedes did not change the bolt math across the CL nameplate's 22 year run. Lug fastener is M14x1.5 thread, lug bolt style.
The 5x112 / 66.56mm pattern is the universal modern Mercedes-Benz spec, shared with the C-Class, E-Class, S-Class, GLC, GLE, and GLS. The CL was built on the S-Class chassis of each respective generation (C140 = W140 S-Class, C215 = W220 S-Class, C216 = W221 S-Class) and carries the S-Class hub geometry. A wheel built for the contemporary S-Class sedan will generally bolt onto a CL hub in stud pattern and centering, but the body geometry differs significantly. The CL is a two door personal luxury coupe with different fender lines, ride height, and tire clearance than the S-Class sedan. We track the CL as its own platform with its own measured fitment data per generation.
5x112 is NOT the same as 5x114.3 used on most Japanese cars. The two patterns sit roughly 2mm apart and are not interchangeable. Compare across the rest of the Mercedes-Benz lineup at our Mercedes-Benz wheels and rims hub, or check the S-Class Coupe successor at /wheels/mercedes-benz/s-class.
Why CL Trim And Brake Package Determine Wheel Fit
The CL ships in three brake tiers across the catalog. The base CL Class coupes (C140 and C215) run the standard CL brake package and accept an 18 inch minimum aftermarket diameter. The CL 550 (C216, 2007-2014) carries a larger front brake than the non-AMG predecessors and bumps the minimum aftermarket diameter to 19 inch. The AMG variants (CL 55, CL 63, CL 65) carry the largest brakes on the CL platform. The C215 CL 55 / CL 65 AMG runs a 19 inch minimum aftermarket diameter. The C216 CL 63 / CL 65 runs a 20 inch minimum because the supercharged and twin turbo V12 brakes are upsized further. The AMG front brake is larger than the rear brake, which is standard on every high output Mercedes-AMG performance variant. The CL 550 (C216) also carries a catalog note for a tall front hub that affects centercap and bore clearance, so most aftermarket wheels need confirmed cap clearance before they will sit flush on a CL 550 hub. The CL is an optional staggered platform: factory wheels were typically square but the chassis accommodates a staggered setup, and our measured fitment box covers both layouts.

Offset windows are tightly controlled by the CL brake package, the chassis generation, and the CL 550 tall hub. For your exact aftermarket offset, three options:
- 1. Use our Year/Make/Model search to see wheels that fit your specific CL generation and trim (each listing shows its own offset).
- 2. Browse the CL-Class wheel gallery for real-life builds with size, offset, and tire spec captions.
- 3. Call or chat with our team for a free fitment consultation.
Every wheel we recommend is backed by our Fitment Guarantee. If a wheel does not fit, we pick up the wheels and refund 100 percent. No risk to you.
How We Confirm Fitment on Mercedes-Benz CL-Class Wheels
Element Wheels measures fitment on the platforms we sell wheels for, including every CL generation from the 1992 C140 forward. For the CL that means clearance from the wheel to the fender on a long, wide personal luxury coupe body, gap between the back of the wheel and the front suspension components, brake caliper height across the base CL coupes, the CL 550, the CL 55 AMG, and the CL 63 / CL 65 packages, hub bore confirmation on the 66.56mm Mercedes hub plus the additional centercap clearance check on the CL 550 tall front hub, and lug bolt seat depth for the M14x1.5 lug bolt. At our fitment facility in Chandler, Arizona, the Element Wheels team measures directly on the physical platforms we support. We don't pull specs from manufacturer sheets the way most retailers do.
Mercedes-Benz CL-Class Wheels and Rims FAQ
What is the bolt pattern on a Mercedes-Benz CL-Class?
Every Mercedes-Benz CL uses 5x112 with a 66.56mm hub bore. That covers all three generations (C140 from 1992-1999, C215 from 1999-2006, and C216 from 2007-2014) and every trim, including CL 550, CL 55 AMG, CL 63 AMG, and CL 65 AMG. Lug fastener is M14x1.5, lug bolt style. 5x112 is the Mercedes-Benz family standard pattern. It is NOT the same as 5x114.3 used on most Japanese cars. The two patterns sit roughly 2mm apart and are not interchangeable.
C140 vs C215 vs C216: what changes for wheels?
Bolt pattern and hub bore stay the same (5x112 / 66.56mm) across all three generations. The three chassis carry different exterior dimensions, different suspension geometry, and different brake packages. The C140 (1992-1999) is the earliest and largest body. The C215 (1999-2006) introduced AMG variants (CL 55 and CL 65). The C216 (2007-2014) added the CL 550 with the tall front hub and the CL 63 / CL 65 with even larger brakes. Wheels bolt across in stud pattern but measured fitment differs by generation.
Is the CL-Class the same as the S-Class Coupe?
The S-Class Coupe (C217, 2015 and up) is the successor to the CL-Class. Mercedes discontinued the CL nameplate after the 2014 model year and rolled the personal luxury coupe back into the S-Class lineup as the S-Class Coupe. The C216 CL (2007-2014) and the C217 S-Class Coupe (2015 and up) share the same chassis lineage but are sold under different names. 2014 or earlier is a CL. 2015 or newer two door luxury Mercedes is an S-Class Coupe. See our S-Class wheels and rims hub for the post-2014 fitment.
Why does the CL 550 need a centercap clearance check?
The C216 CL 550 (2007-2014) has a taller front hub than the rest of the CL lineup. Our catalog flags this. On a hub this tall, most aftermarket wheels will physically contact the centercap unless we have confirmed bore depth and centercap clearance for that specific wheel against the CL 550 hub. We track this on the CL 550 row in our fitment library. Before ordering for a CL 550, contact our team and we'll confirm the centercap will clear the hub on the wheel you're considering.
Can I run staggered wheels on a CL-Class?
Yes. Every CL in our catalog is an optional staggered fitment, meaning the platform was engineered to run either square or staggered depending on customer preference. Factory wheels on most CL trims were square, but the chassis accommodates wider rear wheels for a more aggressive stance. Our measured fitment box covers both layouts on every CL trim, with separate front and rear width and offset ranges in our catalog. Use the Year/Make/Model search to see which staggered combinations we have measured for your specific CL.
Does the CL 55, CL 63, or CL 65 AMG need different wheels than the CL 550?
Same bolt pattern (5x112 / 66.56mm) as the non-AMG CL, but the AMG trims carry larger brakes and a tighter offset window. The C215 CL 55 / CL 65 AMG runs a 19 inch minimum aftermarket diameter. The C216 CL 63 / CL 65 runs a 20 inch minimum. The AMG front brake is larger than the rear, which is standard on a high output Mercedes-AMG variant. A wheel that clears a base CL Class caliper may not clear an AMG caliper of the same chassis. We track the AMG variants on their own catalog rows.
Do I need hub centric rings on a Mercedes-Benz CL?
Hub centric rings only when the aftermarket wheel has a centerbore larger than 66.56mm. If your fitment needs rings, they'll be included with the order.
How do I find the right wheels for my specific Mercedes-Benz CL?
Confirm your generation (C140 from 1992-1999, C215 from 1999-2006, or C216 from 2007-2014) and your trim (base CL, CL 550, CL 55 AMG, CL 65 AMG, CL 63, or CL 65). Bolt pattern is 5x112 / 66.56mm on every variant. Use our Year/Make/Model search to see wheels that fit your specific CL and browse the wheel gallery for real-life builds. If you have a CL 550 or an AMG trim, contact our team for a free fitment consultation before ordering because the brake clearance and centercap clearance are tighter than the base CL. Every wheel we recommend is backed by the Fitment Guarantee.
