Mercedes-Benz G-Class Aftermarket Wheel Fitment

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class (the G-Wagen) is the iconic boxy off-road luxury SUV that Mercedes has produced continuously since 1979 and that runs on a completely different fitment spec than the rest of the Mercedes-Benz lineup. Element Wheels measures the G-Class across two long-running generations: the original W463 (2002-2018, covering G 550, G 55 AMG, G 63 AMG, and G 65 AMG) and the current W463A (2019 and up, covering G 550, G 63 AMG, and the electric G 580 EQ Technology starting in 2024). Bolt pattern is 5x130 with an 84.1mm hub bore on every G-Class variant, in every model year in our catalog. That spec is unique to Mercedes-Benz large SUVs and is NOT shared with the rest of the modern Mercedes lineup (C-Class, E-Class, GLC, GLE, and GLS all use 5x112). What changes inside the G-Class family is brake package and minimum diameter at the AMG trims. Pick your generation and trim below for the fitment specs.

Find Your Mercedes-Benz G-Class Generation

Pick your chassis to see wheels and rims that fit your specific G-Wagen. Bolt pattern is 5x130 / 84.1mm CB on every G-Class. What changes is the brake package (the AMG variants run a larger front caliper than the base G 550), and the minimum wheel diameter on the AMG trims is 20 inch where the base G 550 accepts 18 inch on up.

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class Bolt Pattern

Every Mercedes-Benz G-Class in our catalog uses 5x130 with an 84.1mm hub bore and an M14x1.5 lug bolt. That covers the W463 (2002-2018, including G 550, G 55 AMG, G 63 AMG, and G 65 AMG) and the W463A (2019 and up, including G 550, G 63 AMG, and the electric G 580). Mercedes did not change the bolt math when they re-engineered the G-Wagen for the W463A in 2019. The platform kept its 5x130 / 84.1mm spec because that is the spec the live axles, hub assemblies, and full-size off-road wheels are built around.

5x130 is the spec that separates the G-Class from the rest of the Mercedes-Benz family. The C-Class, E-Class, S-Class, GLA, GLB, GLC, GLE, and GLS all run 5x112. The G-Class runs 5x130. The hub bores are also different (84.1mm on the G, 66.56mm on every other modern Mercedes). Wheels built for any other Mercedes will NOT fit a G-Wagen, and wheels built for a G-Wagen will not fit any other Mercedes-Benz. Compare across the rest of the Mercedes-Benz lineup at our Mercedes-Benz wheels and rims hub, but expect a different fitment window than the rest of the lineup since the G is its own platform.

5x130 is NOT the same as 5x127 or 5x120, two patterns commonly seen on American trucks and BMW SUVs. The patterns sit a few millimeters apart and are not interchangeable. Forcing a non-5x130 wheel onto a G-Class hub stresses the studs and cracks wheel center bores. Always confirm 5x130 with an 84.1mm centerbore before ordering for any G-Wagen.

Why G-Class Trim and Brake Package Determine Wheel Fit

The G-Class has shipped in two distinct brake tiers across both generations. The base G 550 (and the older G 500 and G 580 electric) runs the standard G-Class brake package, which accepts an aftermarket diameter as small as 18 inch on the W463 and the current W463A. The AMG variants (G 55, G 63, G 65 on the W463 and the current G 63 on the W463A) ship with a larger front caliper to handle the higher output. That larger AMG brake package raises the minimum aftermarket diameter to 20 inch. Anything smaller than 20 inch covers the caliper and either hits it or sits with no daylight, which is not a build we recommend. The G-Class is a square fitment platform across every variant. Same wheel and tire size front and rear, no factory stagger. The square layout is built around the live front and rear axles and the off-road geometry. Staggered fitment is not a setup we measure for on this platform.

Element Wheels Measured Aftermarket Fitment, Mercedes-Benz G-Class

Publishable factory and wheel specs across the G-Class generations and trims:

  • W463 G 550 (2002-2018): 5x130 bolt pattern, 84.1mm hub bore, M14x1.5 lug bolts. Element aftermarket diameter range: 18-24 inch. Aftermarket width range: 8.5-11 inch (square). Square fitment.
  • W463 G 55 / G 63 / G 65 AMG (2002-2018): 5x130, 84.1mm CB, M14x1.5. Aftermarket diameter range: 20-24 inch. Aftermarket width range: 8.5-11 inch (square). Larger AMG brake package, minimum 20 inch.
  • W463A G 550 (2019 and up): 5x130, 84.1mm CB, M14x1.5. Aftermarket diameter range: 18-24 inch. Aftermarket width range: 8.5-11 inch (square). New W463A chassis, same bolt math.
  • W463A G 63 AMG (2019 and up): 5x130, 84.1mm CB, M14x1.5. Aftermarket diameter range: 20-24 inch. Aftermarket width range: 8.5-11 inch (square). Largest brake package in the G-Class lineup.
  • G 580 EQ Technology (2024 and up): 5x130, 84.1mm CB, M14x1.5. Aftermarket diameter range: 20-24 inch. Aftermarket width range: 8.5-11 inch (square). Electric G-Wagen, same fitment spec as the gasoline G 550.

Offset windows are tightly controlled on the G-Class because of the live axles and the box-section fenders. For your exact aftermarket offset, three options:

  • 1. Use our Year/Make/Model search to see wheels that fit your specific G-Class generation and trim (each listing shows its own offset).
  • 2. Browse the G-Class wheel gallery for real-life builds with size, offset, and tire spec captions.
  • 3. Call or chat with our team for a free fitment consultation.

How We Confirm Fitment on Mercedes-Benz G-Class Wheels

Element Wheels measures fitment on the platforms we sell wheels for, including both G-Class generations from the W463 forward. For the G-Wagen that means clearance from the wheel face to the boxy front fender flares (which sit closer than a typical SUV fender), gap between the back of the wheel and the live front axle housing, brake caliper height for the base G 550 and for the AMG G 63 brake package, hub bore confirmation on the 84.1mm Mercedes large-SUV hub, lug bolt seat depth for the M14x1.5 thread, and the off-road tire diameter window on the stock suspension before sidewall geometry starts to rub the fender flare under articulation. At our fitment facility in Chandler, Arizona, the Element Wheels team measures directly on the physical platforms we support. We don't pull specs from manufacturer sheets the way most retailers do.

Every wheel we recommend is backed by our Fitment Guarantee. If a wheel does not fit, we pick up the wheels and refund 100 percent. No risk to you.

Mercedes-Benz G-Class Wheels and Rims FAQ

What is the bolt pattern on a Mercedes-Benz G-Class?

Every Mercedes-Benz G-Class uses 5x130 with an 84.1mm hub bore and an M14x1.5 lug bolt. That covers the W463 (2002-2018, including G 550 and G 55 / G 63 / G 65 AMG) and the W463A (2019 and up, including G 550, G 63 AMG, and the electric G 580). Mercedes did not change the bolt math when they re-engineered the G-Wagen for the W463A. 5x130 is unique to the G-Class within the Mercedes-Benz lineup. The rest of the modern Mercedes-Benz lineup (C, E, S, GLA, GLB, GLC, GLE, GLS) runs 5x112 with a 66.56mm hub bore. Wheels do not cross between the G and the rest of the lineup.

W463 vs W463A: what changes for wheels?

Bolt pattern and hub bore stay the same (5x130 / 84.1mm) across both generations. The W463 (2002-2018) and the W463A (2019 and up) carry different front suspension architecture (the W463 uses solid front axle, the W463A moves to independent front), different brake hardware on the AMG side, and different fender clearance under articulation. Stud pattern crosses but the measured fitment differs by generation, so we track them as separate catalog rows.

Will wheels from a GLE, GLS, or other Mercedes fit my G-Class?

No. The G-Class is the only Mercedes-Benz that runs 5x130 / 84.1mm. The GLE, GLS, GLC, GLB, GLA, and all the sedans (C, E, S) run 5x112 / 66.56mm. The stud pattern is different, the hub bore is different, and the wheels do not interchange. A G 550 wheel cannot bolt onto a GLS, and a GLS wheel cannot bolt onto a G 550. The G-Wagen has been its own platform inside Mercedes for over four decades and the bolt math reflects that history.

Do G 63 AMG wheels need a different fitment than the base G 550?

Same bolt pattern (5x130 / 84.1mm), but the AMG variants carry a larger front brake caliper than the base G 550 and need a minimum 20 inch wheel to clear that caliper. The G 550 accepts 18 inch and 19 inch wheels. The G 63 AMG (and the older G 55 AMG and G 65 AMG) does not. The brake change is the primary fitment difference between trims. We track the AMG and the base G 550 as separate catalog rows so the offset and diameter we recommend clear the right caliper for your specific car.

Is the G-Class a square or staggered fitment?

Square. Same wheel and tire size front and rear on every G-Class variant, in every generation. The G-Wagen has live axles (W463) or independent front with full off-road geometry (W463A), and the square setup is built around that platform. Staggered fitment is not a setup we measure for on the G-Class because the off-road suspension and live or near-live rear axle don't benefit from a wider rear wheel and stagger would compromise the off-road behavior the platform is built around.

What is the largest wheel I can fit on a Mercedes-Benz G-Class?

Our measured aftermarket window tops at 24 inch on every G-Class variant, including the W463 G 550, W463 AMG variants, W463A G 550, W463A G 63 AMG, and the electric G 580. 22 inch is the most common visual-stance choice on the AMG trims, and 20 inch is the most common off-road-friendly aftermarket size that balances sidewall against fender fill. Below 18 inch on the base G 550 risks hiding the front brake. Below 20 inch on any AMG G-Class hits the caliper. Above 24 inch typically requires fender clearance work and is not a build we measure for.

Do I need hub centric rings on a Mercedes-Benz G-Class?

Hub centric rings only when the aftermarket wheel has a centerbore larger than 84.1mm. If your fitment needs rings, they'll be included with the order.

How do I find the right wheels for my specific Mercedes-Benz G-Class?

Confirm your generation (W463 from 2002-2018 or W463A from 2019 and up) and your trim (base G 550, AMG variant, or G 580 electric). Bolt pattern is 5x130 / 84.1mm with M14x1.5 lugs on every variant. Use our Year/Make/Model search to see wheels that fit your specific G-Class and browse the wheel gallery for real-life builds. If you have any AMG trim, contact our team for a free fitment consultation before ordering since the AMG brake package raises the minimum diameter to 20 inch. Every wheel we recommend is backed by the Fitment Guarantee.
