The SL has carried the same bolt pattern across every modern generation in our catalog: 5x112 with a 66.56mm hub bore, from the R129 (1994-2002) through the R230 (2003-2012), R231 (2013-2020), and the current R232 SL 43/55/63 AMG (2022 and up). The R232 is the first SL where Mercedes also offers a carbon-ceramic brake package as a meaningful option alongside the standard steel brakes, and the AMG variants (SL 43, 55, and 63) carry progressively larger brake packages. The Mercedes-Benz SL-Class Bolt Pattern

Every Mercedes-Benz SL-Class generation in our catalog runs 5x112 with a 66.56mm hub bore. The R129 (1994-2002), the R230 (2003-2012) in both base SL Class and SL 55/65 AMG and SL 63/65 AMG trims, the R231 (2013-2020) in both SL 400/450/550 and SL 63/65 AMG trims, and the R232 SL 43/55/63 AMG (2022 and up) in both steel-brake and carbon-ceramic configurations all share the same hub interface. The 5x112 pattern is the corporate Mercedes-Benz pattern across most of the modern lineup (C-Class, E-Class, S-Class, and the SL all share it), with the hub bore varying by chassis. The SL holds at 66.56mm across every generation.

The SL-Class is the two-seat roadster and should not be confused with the SLK (now SLC), which is the smaller two-seat roadster on a different chassis, or with the S-Class four-door sedan. Why AMG and Brake Package Change the SL Fitment Window

The base SL (R230 SL 500/550, R231 SL 400/450/550) carries Mercedes's standard steel brake package for the SL platform of its era. Moving up to the SL 55, SL 63, or SL 65 AMG brings a progressively larger front brake caliper and rotor, plus performance-tuned suspension. On the R231 SL 63/65 AMG (2013-2020) and on the R232 SL 43/55/63 AMG (2022 and up), the front brake is meaningfully larger than the rear. That is normal on a performance roadster of this caliber; the front axle does the majority of the braking and Mercedes scales the front rotor and caliper accordingly. The larger AMG brake takes more inner-barrel clearance behind the wheel face, which is why our R232 AMG fitments use a slightly narrower diameter window than a typical 5x112 platform of similar weight.

The R232 SL also splits into steel-brake and carbon-ceramic-brake variants. The carbon-ceramic option is a factory order from Mercedes and the caliper geometry is different enough that we track the two configurations separately in our catalog. Both run the same 5x112 bolt pattern; what changes is which aftermarket wheel face geometry clears the caliper.

Every SL since the R129 has been a staggered car from the factory. Rear wheels are typically one to two inches wider than the front to handle the rear-drive (or rear-biased AWD on the R232) power delivery and to give the chassis the planted stance Mercedes engineers for. Square setups are not standard on the SL and we publish front-and-rear-specific fitments on every generation.
