Why SLK Trim And Hub Geometry Determine Wheel Fit

The SLK has two clearance topics that decide what fits. First, the R170 (1997-2004) carries a 43mm tall front hub that will physically contact the centercap on many aftermarket wheels. This affects both the SLK 230 and the SLK 320 and is a hard catalog flag in our fitment library. Most aftermarket wheels need confirmed bore depth and centercap clearance before they will sit flush on an R170 hub. The R171 and R172 do not carry this flag. Second, the brake package steps up as you move from the base SLK 320 (16 inch brake height) to the R171 / R172 SLK Class (18 inch brake height) and to the AMG variants (also 18 inch brake height with a larger front caliper than the rear). The AMG front brake is larger than the rear brake, which is standard on a high output Mercedes-AMG performance variant. The SLK 320 is the lone SLK with a same size front and rear brake. Every SLK in our catalog is an optional staggered fitment, meaning the platform was engineered to run either square or staggered.
